The Ministry of Commerce, Government of India is organizing the 'People's Choice Campaign' from November 3, 2023. To increase participation from students, UGC has asked universities to promote the campaign.

New Delhi: UGC has urged universities across the country to promote the 'People's Choice Campaign. This request is made to increase student participation in the campaign, which is organised by Ministry of Commerce, Government of India.
Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) have been urged by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to strategize activities that encourage students to participate in promoting One District One Product (ODOP), Geographical Indication (GI), and various other local products across the country.
In addition to this, UGC has advised universities to host blog writing competitions about local products at colleges, screen educational videos about local and ODOP items and shadow an artisan or weaver.
The institutes are required to upload activity details, along with photos and videos, on the University Activity Monitoring Portal (UAMP) located at uamp.ugc.ac.in.

About People's Choice Campaign
The People's Choice Campaign campaign is being conducted to recognize value and preserve the heritage of our country. The Government of India has been actively promoting local, ODOP, and GI items across the country.
The ODOP initiative, introduced by the Central Government in various states and Union Territories nationwide, is geared towards fostering balanced regional development.
It anticipates comprehensive socioeconomic progress across districts, with the ultimate objective of transforming each district into a manufacturing and export hub. This involves identifying items with export potential in every district.
The commission said “The ODOP initiative aims to boost economic growth at the district level by encouraging the handicraft industry and craftsmen. The campaign intends to employ messages, outreach, and focused economic activities to promote this campaign in every part of our country,”
