UGC Committee Proposes New Degree Names For BS in Humanities, Management and Commerce; Check Details Here

New Delhi: The nation's higher education regulator is getting ready to roll out a new lineup of college degree names, including a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in subjects including arts, humanities, management, and commerce, in keeping with international norms and the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) now permits the Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree, which is awarded in the humanities, social sciences, and arts, whereas the Bachelor of Science degree, also known as BSc in India, is primarily awarded in the science stream.

A committee established by the UGC to review degree nomenclatures has recommended that the new four-year undergraduate honours (or honours with research) degree programmes, regardless of the discipline, can also be offered as a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree.

This is because the NEP 2020 advocates restructuring of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.
