UGC Encourages 'Fit India Week' in Higher Education Institutes under PM Narendra Modi’s FIT India Movement

New Delhi: The University Grants Commission has issued a directive to Higher Education Institutes and Top Colleges in India, urging them to observe the "Fit India Week" spanning from November 15 to December 15, 2023.

Initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 29, 2019, the FIT India Movement endeavors to instill the practice of fitness as a fundamental aspect of our everyday routines. The movement's goal is to induce behavioral shifts towards a more active lifestyle and promote physical well-being through various Physical Education Courses and others.

The official UGC notification states that in order to broaden its outreach to a wider audience and enhance the program's success, it has been renamed 'FIT India Week' and is slated for celebration between November 15 and December 15, 2023.

The HEIs have been requested to select a week suiting their schedule and arrange sports and fitness activities lasting 4 to 6 days during this period. The official statement highlights that the activities for the FIT India Week might involve the commemoration of the Annual Sports Day.
