Is mathematics in IISc Bangalore at par with CMI?
CMI offers a more Mathematics oriented program. For pure Mathematics, it is a better option.
- CMI curriculum has Maths/CS, and Maths/Physics options. At IISc first three semesters are common. During these semesters you will be studying Engineering, Material Science, EVS, Humanities, etc.
- CMI Maths syllabus is more theory-oriented. You will get to learn abstract concepts. IISc follows a more balanced curriculum. During the first three years, you will need to attend both theory and lab classes.
CMI Maths framework and teaching methodology are more suited for students who are genuinely interested in Mathematics.
How are SPJIMR operations compared to NITIE operations in terms of placements, alumni, and teaching?
When it comes to operations, NITIE is unbeatable compared to SPJAIN for at least the next ten years, and the same is true for finance and marketing, as NITIE cannot beat SPJIMR for the next decade. Here are some reasons to consider:
- Placements: If you're an operations graduate, NITIE has every recruiter you could possibly want, giving you more options to select the profile you want. Additionally, the average package is higher in SPJMIR, but that's due to factors such as batch strength with no reservation and the ability of private institutes to do more than government institutes. Overall, NITIE is the best choice for placement based on operations.
- Alumni: NITIE has a legacy of producing excellent graduates, and you'll find NITIE alumni at virtually every company.
- Teaching: SPJIMR has better professors for general courses, but NITIE has exceptional professors for operations elective courses. Ultimately, both are equivalent, and it comes down to how many case studies you complete.
- Diversity: NITIE only has engineers, while SPJIMR has a more vibrant crowd. Therefore, SPJIMR has the advantage in this area.
- ROI: Return on investment is the most important criterion when choosing a college. NITIE has the best ROI after FMS, making it an obvious choice. Big loans can drag down your package by 5-6 L a year, which is not worth it.
- Campus life: While my knowledge about this factor is limited, I have heard that SPJIMR doesn't have a proper campus and shares it with other colleges. NITIE has a larger and better campus, especially for nightlife.
Overall, NITIE is a much better option than SPJIMR for operations and as a college in general. While SPJIMR has excellent marketing strategies, factors such as GFT and Rural internships are just gimmicks to bring the college into the top 10. Additionally, SPJIMR began inflating their placement reports due to institutes like MDI doing the same. It's essential to check the data for yourself and not settle for others' beliefs, as everyone has their own. NITIE is relatively unknown due to being a government institute that cannot advertise like SPJIMR or MDI. Additionally, the operation is not as prestigious a stream as finance and marketing in the corporate world, giving NITIE a bad reputation. However, NITIE is the clear choice for operations, and you should do your research and make an informed decision.
What is the placement percentage of IIT BHU mechanical?
IIT BHU does not release branch-wise placements so I will be talking about IIT BHU placements as a whole. As per the official data, IIT BHU highest package 2023 stood at INR 1.2CPA. This high package was offered by Graviton Research Capital. In addition to this,1,000+ offers were made including 305 PPOs. The total number of recruiters that visited on day one of IIT BHU placements 2023 was 308.

The placements scenario of each branch is witnessing gradual growth but the maximum number of students were placed from the Mechanical Engineering and Technology Department. Some of the major recruiters of IIT BHU, Varanasi include EXL, Wipro, Tata Steels, Oracle, Morgan Stanley, and Maruti.
Did I make a mistake by choosing IIT Guwahati CSE over IIT Varanasi CSE?
It's difficult for me to say whether choosing IIT Guwahati CSE over IIT Varanasi CSE was a mistake without more information about your specific circumstances and goals. Both IIT Guwahati and IIT Varanasi are highly respected institutions, and both offer strong Computer Science programs that are rightly comparable in almost every aspect.
The placement scenario is similarly decent at both institutes with very little emphasis on research. The active Coding Club/ CSEA at IIT Guwahati gives it a slight edge over others. Both the institutes are excellent choices for whatever you want to do after graduation be it research, open source development, or a stable job.
The only distinguishing feature is the weather as IIT Guwahati has better weather conditions than IIT BHU. However, this flaw is compensated by better connectivity of Varanasi being on the mainland.
How difficult is branch change in IIT Guwahati?
The key to branch change in IIT Guwahati or any other IIT is Determination. Branch change isn't that difficult if you are dedicated to it. Once you enter any IIT, you will find yourself surrounded by millions of opportunities and things to explore. Without even realizing it, you will find yourself busy with quizzes, hostel tournaments, or inter-college tournaments. You will be exploring so many things both in academics and otherwise. Soon, it will be the time of your end semester for which you have not prepared in advance as you were busy with everything else but academics. will have a week or two before the end semester.
For branch change, you will have to minimize your distractions and sacrifice all extra activities to score maximum marks. It’s best to attend all classes, tutorials, labs, and lab lectures for maximum retention.
However, it’s better to explore the branch you have first and then decide whether you want to change your branch or not.
How bad is the management at IBS Hyderabad?
IBS has a dedicated marketing team that works hard to get admissions for its 9 campuses. College curriculum, placement, approvals, and quality of faculties may not play a big role in getting admissions.
The IBSAT examination is not a rigorous test, and it is possible to qualify by just applying for it. The IBSAT application period starts in June and may never end, with the exception of the IBS Hyderabad campus, which closes in the first week of February.
The selection process at IBS Hyderabad is more about determining if you have the financial means to pay for the fees, rather than your qualifications. Fluency in English and a wealthy father may increase your chances of getting into the IBS Hyderabad campus.
Most of the students placed through campus placements will end up leaving their jobs within 6 months, and a large percentage of the jobs obtained through campus placements are not unique to MBA graduates.
Even if you score less than the 60 percentile on a test like CAT, it is still possible to get into IBS Hyderabad by writing the IBSAT exam. It is recommended to take exams such as CAT, CET, NMAT, CMAT, SNAP, or TISS if you are serious about pursuing an MBA. CAT is often referred to as the "mother of MBA entrance exams in India," and a score less than 60 percentile may indicate that an MBA may not be the best fit for you.
What are the requirements to get direct admission in BIT Mesra?
If by direct admission you mean not having to go through JEE Mains and the subsequent counseling, getting admission based on your board result, and a direct application to BIT Mesra, you can go for its 5 year integrated BSc.+MSc. program.
This course is offered by BIT Mesra in these subjects- Mathematics and Computing, Physics, Chemistry and Food Technology. You will have an exit option after the completion of your 3rd year. The integrated BSc.+MSc. course in Physics/ Chemistry from BIT Mesra is suitable for a career in research, while the integrated BSc.+ MSc. course in Mathematics and Computing/Food Technology offers good placements. You can also opt for research after your degree in Mathematics and Computing or Food Technology.
Thus, for a direct admission into BIT Mesra, you can go for their integrated BSc.+MSc. course.
Has my daughter made the right decision by taking a CSE at IIIT Hyderabad instead of electrical at IIT Roorkee?
Although it actually depends on your daughter's interests and career goals, I would say choosing CSE at IIIT Hyderabad was a smart decision indeed unless she has a specific inclination toward Electrical Engineering.
IIIT Hyderabad CSE can be highly compared to the CSE programs of the top 6 IITs. It has a highly updated and relevant curriculum that is CS tailored to suit the needs of future coders. Moreover, the institute focuses a lot on practical learning which prepares them for the future. IIITs are undergoing fast-paced development and might take over the IT world very soon.
Another aspect that makes IIIT Hyderabad a better choice than IIT Roorkee is its no-reservation policies. The students here are admitted solely based on merit so you will always be surrounded by geniuses.
So yes the IIT tag matters but not more than our branch preferences, and that being said, IIIT Hyderabad is the best for CSE so your daughter has made a wise decision!
What are the advantages and disadvantages of joining a newly opened govt. college such as one of the the new IIIT's (in Sri City, Vadodara, Sonepat, Kota, Una, Wb etc)?
One of my friends was part of the 1st batch of IIIT Vadodara. Here are a few snippets of his experience at the institute. This can help you understand the challenges you will face in a newly-established institute.
Advantages:
- Every event was first, be it freshers, annual day, cultural fest, or any other. It is an entirely different kind of experience to be part of the first of everything.
- For the first few years, my friend stayed in a hostel of a State College provided by Govt. Which was also shared by the students of that college. With such limited resources, you will learn to adjust.
- My friend and his batch-mates fought with the management on more than one occasion and got their way. In a new institute, you will learn to be more independent and self-reliant.
- As you will be the very first batch, you will be able to set your own trends and rituals.
- In my friend’s case, there were faculties and staff members who arrived after the students joined. You can be a part of the decision-making process.
Disadvantages:

- Lack of Resources: The most frustrating aspect of studying in a newly established institute is quite obviously the lack of proper infrastructure. You won’t have a proper campus, library, proper laboratories and sometimes, few basic necessities like food and water too.
- Inexperienced Faculty: IIIT Vadodara was under the mentorship of DA-IICT- Gandhinagar. So, my friend was fortunate to have well-qualified faculties. But the newly recruited faculties for the institute were no match for the standards of a National Institute like IIIT. Few of the faculties were still pursuing their Ph.D. Being new to the profession, there were errors in their ways of teaching and evaluating.
- No-fixed Fee Structure: For my friends, there was no fixed fee structure. Due to a lack of proper hostel facilities, students were moved to new locations every individual year. With the new sites being more remote and almost no internet connectivity. With the shift, the hostel fees used to increase. Students were also made to bear the cost of transport cost.
- Lack of Proper Authority: You are also likely to face, lack of proper authority in a newly-established institute. In my friend’s case, there was no one to solve their problems. Many students also didn’t get their scholarships, due to the lack of authority.
- Lack of Management: Due to the lack of proper management my friend and his batch mates faced problems with their results and academic records.
These are a few of the advantages and disadvantages of studying in a newly established institute. Also, a word of advice, check the official website before opting for an institute. For my friend, choosing IIIT Vadodara was not a matter of choice but a matter of chance.
What happens if you fail in a subject in the final year of engineering at VTU?
failing a subject in final year at VTU (Visvesvaraya Technological University):
under VTU's CBCS scheme:
- if you fail a subject in the final year (7th or 8th semester), you get an 'F' grade in that subject
- under CBCS, you are not detained — there is no year back. you can still be issued a provisional completion certificate after completing other semesters if only 7th/8th sem subjects remain
- you must clear the backlog(s) by appearing in subsequent attempts at the supplementary exams VTU conducts
- Degree not awarded until all required credits are cleared — you cannot convocate with pending backlogs
- you can attempt backlogs as many times as needed within the maximum 8-year program duration
practical impact: if you fail 1-2 subjects in final year, you'll get your degree a semester or two later than your batchmates. for campus placements, you might be excluded from final placement drives if results are pending. address it quickly to minimize delay.
