Can I be converted into MDI Gurgaon with 95 percentile in CAT 95 percentages in 10th and 12th and 80 in B Tech with an average GDPI round?
To start with, around 2,00,000 candidates appeared for the CAT exam. This means that for every percentile, there are about 2000 people.
Now, let's say that your percentile is 95, which implies that the 5 percentile is more than yours. In other words, approximately 10000 candidates have scored better than you in the CAT exam.
Suppose that 2000 candidates did not apply for MDI, which leaves us with 8000 candidates. Looking at your good scores in 10th, 12th, and graduation, you are better than at least 4000 candidates out of the remaining 8000.
So, the number of candidates left now is 4000. In comparison, IIMs and private/government colleges like SP Jain, FMS, etc., there are around 1500 and 1000 seats available, respectively, in the general category, taking BLACKIS seats into consideration.
Assuming that they all choose colleges other than MDI, the probable candidates left for MDI with profiles better than yours would be 4000-(1500+1000) = 1500. Now, the number of seats available in MDI is approximately 350.

One of my friends was a part of the 2017 MCA batch of Kumaraguru College of Technology. According to her, the atmosphere at the institute is great and it offers decent academics.
- The campus life is quite enjoyable. You will get to meet many people on the campus. The college is not that strict about attendance so you can bunk classes and explore the campus on bicycles with your friends.
- The hostel facilities are great. The rooms are 4-sharing and food provided on mess is good.
- KCT collaborates with good companies for the management of campus facilities and always ensures the convenience of the students. The average salary package here is 1.5 LPA while 28 LPA has been recorded as the highest salary.
- It has also started Arts and Science faculties within the campus and hence, gives more freedom to make good friends.
- “YUGAM” the cultural fest of the KCT provides the opportunity to showcase your talent and expertise in the particular field to the students.
You will definitely have a good time at KCT.
How was your first day at IIT Kanpur? Was it different from what you had expected?
As an introvert throughout his school life, my brother was very nervous on his first day at IIT Kanpur. Firstly, he had to move away from home and that too to a city that is not very well known. On reaching Kanpur he was very disappointed and was on the verge of a breakdown.
When he reached IIT Kanpur, to his utter surprise a totally new world awaited him. He was surrounded by a lush green campus with splendid natural beauty that all his worries went away. The campus was massive and had every top-notch amenity one could think of from cricket grounds to decent hostels.
He was allotted Hostel 3 and found his room to be a bit old but tolerable. He found some very good friends in his wingmates and soon all his nervousness was gone. A student guide helped him and his batchmates feel comfortable and informed them about the basic rules and culture of IIT Kanpur.
My brother loved the harmony between seniors and juniors. He found a new family in them and loved how his seniors were always ready to guide them to the right path. Unlike his expectations, IITs are not just always studying but also involved in extracurricular activities like dramatics, dance, cricket, volleyball, and other sports & activities. Overall, his first day at IIT Kanpur was very memorable and is still like a fresh memory.
Which college is better, NIT Surathkal, BITS Hyderabad, or NIT Trichy CSE (considering all factors)?
These three colleges can be compared with each other on several factors. I am listing below these factors-
- College tag- Both the tags- ‘BITSIAN’ and ‘NITIAN’ are reputable. Both will help you in your career. But as far as international recognition is concerned, a BITSIAN tag holds more value.
- Peer Group- BITS Hyderabad has a better crowd because of no reservation scheme. NITs have caste based reservation and home state quota.
- Infrastructure- BITS Hyderabad is the newest BITS, so it has a better infrastructure than the other two colleges. Its infrastructure is better than BITS Pilani as well. NITs are government institutions which receive government funding mostly for research, and rarely for infrastructural development.
- Placements - BITS Hyderabad offers good CSE placements, at par with NIT Trichy and NIT Surathkal. Its placement record is improving with time. However, these NITs offer better placements for core branches due to PSU visits.
- Faculty- The faculty is top notch at all these colleges. However, NITs experience a shortage of professors which causes problems for the students.
- Alumni network- All the BITS campuses have a common alumni network- BITSAA. BITSAA is the second largest alumni network after the IITs. It is bigger than the alumni networks of these NITs.
- Degree- All the BITS students are offered the same degree, irrespective of the BITS campus.
- Research- In terms of research, NIT Trichy and NIT Surathkal are a better option.
- Fees - The fees at BITS Hyderabad is quite high. NITs are government colleges, so their fees are low. BITS offer scholarships and scholar loans of 20 lakhs to students. You can definitely opt for NITs in case of financial constraints.
NIT Surathkal, NIT Trichy and BITS Hyderabad are all good colleges for your CSE degree. They are a much better choice than the new IITs. You can choose any of them based on your personal preference.
