Remarks

Other than the early morning classes I haven't come across any bad reviews about this college. It was and still is one of the oldest and prestigious colleges in Kolkata.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

JDC strictly follows the course curriculum provided by Calcutta University. This college has great professors for Physics faculty. JDC is also one of the few colleges that lets you choose Geology as a pass subject if you are opting for Physics(Hons). So, you have the choice to choose Geophysics for post-graduation which is a booming industry. There are on-campus drive every year which provides the students fair placements.

Placement Experience

3

Companies like TCS, TECHNO INDIA, Wipro visits in the on-campus drive. The recruitment process mainly consists of an interview. Students get placement mostly based on their academic records and their performance in the interview. Internship options are also available.

College Events

2.5

JDC celebrates many festivals like Saraswati Pujo and fests, fresher welcome. JDC organizes cultural programs, seminars and conferences. Back in my college days, we got to enjoy famous Bengali band performances. The campus life in this collage is good and 100% ragging free. There's also no hassles of unions and politics.

Fee Structure And Facilities

I wouldn't describe the fee structure as expensive, it's very much feasible. The payment process is totally transparent. There are no hidden charges or scams that you will come to regret later. You can make the payment also in installments if you have any prob making the payment in one go.

Fees and Financial Aid

Personally, I didn't opt for any scholarship. But for students of need, there are a few scholarships available. The college offers the benefit of free scholarship to meritorious students who come from an economically backward background or minority community.

Campus Life

4.5

JDC is an all-women college. The campus life this college has to offer is good hassle-free and there's a strict no ragging policy in place. The lab experience this collage offers is good in general but opt for extra classes if you want to learn more. There a few extracurricular in which the students can indulge themselves like there's a sports team and NCC.

Alumni/Alumna

The college boasts of a pretty impressive ex-student community which includes eminent academics and researchers. The alumni network is coordinated by Smt. Kanika Chatterjee.

Admission

I opted for this college because it provides a strong undergrad program on Physics. The laboratory experience which plays a crucial role in undergrad Physics(Hons) is good in this institute that's one of the main reasons why I opted for this college. JDC takes admission based on the student's 12th marks. The cutoff is usually higher than 60%. This institute usually does three to four lists for the purpose of admission. After completion of the first list, admission is strictly on a first come first serve basis.

Faculty

4

There are four lectures in a typical day including practical classes. Most of the professions have their doctorate in their specific fields and others are pursuing their Ph.D. The average age of the professors are 30 to 40. JDC also provides it's students with seminars and conferences.

Placement Experience:

People who major in my department usually opt for masters over placement not because of this college but because overall industrial or academic opportunities are better with a pg degree. Masters from this college is not recommended as i have heard so from my seniors. Some of my seniors managed to crack competitives and secure MSc seats at great places. Training and Placement cell had a good coordinator previously but now its almost non existent. Companies do come and hire Bpharm, Mpharm and MSc candidates. Packages are below average. Only Nestle pays well. But if you do well you'll eventually climb up the corportate ladder. From the time i am here i have not heard of any BSc candidate getting placed. Most go for higher studies.

Placement Experience:

The average package offered for such roles ranges between ?2–3 LPA, while the highest package offered to a BSc student is around ?4 LPA, depending on skills and specialization. Overall, around 15–20% of BSc students get placed through campus drives, and many students rely on off-campus opportunities.

The course is very relevant as it provides us an overall knowledge of biology and not dividing it into various sections rather giving us an insight of every aspect of biology. It includes everything such as microbiology, zoology, botany, physiology, molecular biology and so on.

Bhawanipur Global Campus (formerly NSHM Knowledge Campus), Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] (Media Science)
Reviewed on Dec 17, 2024(Enrolled 2020)

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum was well thought out as per me but there were subjects that i found absolutely unnecessary. Subjects like history evs and clc were in no way related to my course. Coming to the main subjects Design, Printing, Photography and film and Media Training were absolutely necessary for my course and whilst the faculty for some of these subjects were really bad, some were good. It is also important to mention none of these subjects actually helped us prepare for the real world. Instead internships and freelance helped us more than these subjects could ever do. Exams were held bi monthly to keep track of what we learnt and every 6 months we had our semester exams. Overall if you want to be a media professional INTERNSHIPS AND JOBS WILL HELP YOU MORE THAN A COLLEGE WILL. I am biased on this opinion as my college didnt provide me with the correct guidance and support i needed to make it in the real world.

In case of computer science department, placement is provided at the Last year of M.sc course. Many companies like Wipro, b10x, Tata visited here. Highest package ever is three lakh per annum. 20-40% of the students got placement after completing M.Sc computer science. My plan after B.sc is to pursue MCA.

* It's all about practical knowledge, we are getting from this course and another aspect is if you wants to make your career in research or lecturer then you should go for it. *No changes required in teaching methods but if college will provide hostel facilities and campus requirement drive, then it will better for candidates.
