Remarks

The facilities are enough yet low due to lowered funding. Dearth of permanent lecturer is also one drawback. Placement opportunities are highly required. It is to be understood that this college too hold talented students and also hardworking students who can be a better employee. We need firms and corporate houses to run a test or interview for the selection of employees.

Course Curriculum Overview

2

The academic course is not very far fetched and is just the right amount that students can manage. The college offers an integrated course of 5 years for BA LLB. The course structure is fine with ample time for the students to research on topics they are inclined to. The college holds a fantastic library and by fantastic I mean it has numerous books on the topics which one may find interesting in the course. There is also a subscription to SSC online which for the non legal students let me tell you, is a comprehensive and well-edited legal research tool for Indian & Foreign law. There are 10 semester in total which means 10 exams. Before each semester exam a 10 marks internal exam is also arranged by the college. Semester exams are of 80 marks and 20 marks for internals. 10 marks for attendance remains so that the students do not attempt to miss classes. Internal exams are held in the college itself but for the semester exams there is a separate venue allotted which primarily is another law college under Calcutta university. Sufficient leave between exams are very productive and helps reduce the stress.

Placement Experience

2

Only recently did we complete an internship under a lawyer of the honourable High court of Calcutta. Arrangements have been made for every semester internship of two weeks. There is however no stipend for the said internship. Students are expected to learn from the court visits, observation of trial, research, and legal writing. My recent experience was good enough. We receive a letter of recommendation and a certificate after the completion of the internship. An internship diary has to be maintained by all the students which might be useful in the latter days. We are looking forward to intern in a law firm and corporate houses.

College Events

2.5

The Saraswati Puja is perhaps the biggest celebration in college. Other than that Rabindra Jayanti and Holi is also celebrated with frolic. There is a freshers party every year for the new students and a farewell party for the one's who are leaving. Apart from these Rajendra Prasad memorial debate, a national debate is organised followed by an intra moot court competition.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fees are comparatively low being a government college. Admission fees was something near 2000rs in the year 2018. Examination fees are 250 in total. If a student is deemed as non collegiate he/ she has to pay an extra 100 rs to be able to sit for the examination. All payment are done online hence there is no mishap in the handling of the money. The amount for celebratory purpose is different and is not taken during admission. A small fee for the library is taken in order to give value to it's visitation and importance of reading. A book store is found in the college premises itself to facilitate purchase of the course books with sufficient discounts. There are scholarships for the economically backward community too. Concessions for railway transport is also provides.

Fees and Financial Aid

Since the fees structure is low enough there arises no question of loan facility. But there is a scholarship facility provided to the ST/ SC community and the economically backward. I haven't availed any but one of my friends does. sufficient marks needs to be there so that the scholarship can be approved

Campus Life

1.5

There is a sports club in the college which basically consists of the sporty sect. The boys have won a few football tournament. College allows inter college participation for different games. However it does not host any kind of sport or extracurricular activities except debate And moot court competition. There is a cultural committee, a moot court committee, a journal committee and a debate committee. Recently a magazine committee has been made and the students are urged to hone their writing painting photography comedy or any skills for that matter.

Hostel Facilities

2.5

Hostels are provided as per the distance of college from home. A minimum 60 km distance is required to avail a hostel. The hostels are properly maintained with 3 seating in a room, which I personally feel is adequate. I am at present not very sure of the charges but I can provide the information on a later date. There are a lot of pgs available nearby expenses ranging from 2500 to 7/8000. Water electricity and flooding are provided according to the expenditure. Rented rooms are also available in the vicinity. The hostel buildings are near the campus itself hence there is no question traveling.

Alumni/Alumna

The college seniors are extremely helpful. Not only with academics but also with life. They interact with joy and we can always learn from the way they behave with the juniors. It is indeed like a family. Although it is an autonomous course the one's who are regular to college have experienced the bittersweet relationship between the juniors and seniors. Many college alumnus are properly places and they too are take a responsibility to guide the juniors through. Speaking of my personal experience I am almost friends with a lot of seniors.

Admission

I had always wanted to be a woman with power but also had a soft corner for research. Presently pursuing the BA LLB course which provides me with the opportunity of both. I aim to be a High Court judge and am very optimistic in my pursuit. There are a number of entrance examinations in India which allows 10+2 passed students take up law. CLAT is supposedly the first choice. In Kolkata one can always go for the Calcutta University entrance examination for law. Once the results are out one is allotted a college under CU according to the preference list the've filled and their respective ranks. I stood first in the category rank and since I had given Department of law as the first preference my admission process was smooth. It only takes filling up of the form in the respective campuses and paying the fees. The entrance exams are conducted in June and results are out by July. Session starts from late July or early August. There is no interview conducted before admission.

Faculty

2.5

All the professors are highly educated and qualified. Not only are they punctual but also take interest in teaching the respective subjects. They are helpful with clarification of doubts. There are 3 permanent professors for now and a number of guest lecturers. There are teachers for every subject in our course and sometimes the syllabus is divided between 2 professors for effective teaching.

The college doesnt provide any internship from its side nor does it provide any good placement. However about 50% of the students get placed by applying in off campus places. The teachers help us find good law firms for internships though.
