The unnecessary strictness of STCET

STCET is unnecessarily strict. Students eventually find fines everywhere. Every student should have proper uniform bought from a certain shop. Otherwise, the college takes fines or sent them home. Every boy should have a clean face (no beard). Otherwise, the college takes fines or sent them home. Students can not be late even for 10 mins. Otherwise, the college takes fines or sent them home. Attendance is lower than 75%. Pay fine of 500 rupees for every less attended classes. Students get frustrated for this kind of unnecessary strictness.

The course curriculum of this college was maintained by MAKAUT (formerly WBUT). The course structure is not good. Sometimes prerequisite subjects are taught 2 semesters early. Optional subjects are distributed by lottery basis. Sometimes some optional subjects are unavailable because of unavailability of professors.

Mainly, only two IT companies (Cognizant & Infosys) recruits 70% from this college. One or two more IT companies recruited 4-5%. Others are sent to 2-3 more pooled campussing. But if someone failed to get a job, college does not provide any campussing unless he/she pays them. College almost forces all the students to do a paid course for the campussing purpose. Normally there is no internship opportunity unless the student personally gets it. But the college does not give the NOC even if only 1 or 2 days falls into semester duration. After 3rd year paid or free industrial training is done as per university rules.

Freshers are not celebrated. A one day cultural event is celebrated where only students perform but during my time it was cancelled in my last year. After doing the classes students enjoy (?) this 3 hour long event with their college uniforms on. A one day or two day long tech fest is organized every year.

Fee structure is feasible for a student belonging from middle class family. Tuition fee is fixed for every college under MAKAUT. They took 48000 for a 30000 rupees worth HP laptop and low speed wifi service. This is kind of expensive.

I did not avail any scholarship or loan facility. But a tuition fee waiver scheme is there for students coming from poor families. On the day of admission I saw some banks provided their stalls for the education loan facility.

College organizes inter department football, cricket, badminton, table tennis tournament for boys and girls every year. A sports day is arranged every year for athletics. But the problem is students can not cheer up their teams by bunking their classes. The boys' common room has 2 TT tables and 2 carromboards and girls' common room has one of each. Labs are old for this generation students.

There is no hostel facilities available in this college. The students coming from others parts of state and country stays outside of this college in pg. The college gives contacts of the accommodations to the students.

The college has an unofficial alumni network. I don't kind of like this college. So I try to be excluded from all this alumni network. Most of the seniors I have interacted in my time were very helpful.

I ranked 6579 in WBJEE 2012. So, according to my rank and preference-wise choices of available engineering courses in West Bengal I got selected for this course in the 2nd round. And I confirmed that and enrolled in this course.

Not necessarily every faculty needs to have a doctorate degree to teach in this college. Most of them completed masters. But the HODs have the doctorate degrees. Almost 60% of the faculties are good in teaching.
