NIT Rourkela, BTech

Remarks

It is the best. Hence in 1st rank among the top most colleges(NITs) in India.

Entrance Preview

AIEEE, All India Rank 12443. I got Chemical Engineering in NIT Rourkela based on my rank. Hence opted the same.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

1st year was really good as courses are similar to 12th. However in successive years it became boring. So many chemical processes, equations, reaction you need to understand and remember. Sometimes I found really difficult to remember. However in last year few interesting courses added up in syllabus which were good.

Internships Opportunities

Core companies Like IOCL, SAIL, Coal India, Schlumberger, HPCL. Software Companies: Accenture, IBM, Microsoft, Yahoo They offered internships during our periods. There are many others companies too.

Placement Experience

4.5

It was really good. 200% achieved i can say. Few people were having 3 companies offer at the same time. Perfectly organised by Placement department.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fees were pretty decent. Per year 14k, Dont remember the exact figures Hostel fees : 1.2 k per month Apart from these there were no additional fees during my periods. however these fees were changed as of now.

Fees and Financial Aid

I have not availed it. Hence not sure about the same. But yes heard about few scholarships for SC/ST students.

Campus Life

4.5

Campus Life: those were the best days of my life. Awesome ground, gym, swimming pool with flood lights facilities. You can play all the sports irrespective of day or night. Superb campus.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

I can say Hotel not Hostel. NIT Rourkela has only hotel for their students not hostel. Big rooms, excellent facilities, superb food. No problem with water, electricity even though during hot seasons. The fees which they were charging were worth of it. Also free WIFI and 24 hrs Computer Common room access.

External Expense: Rs.2000 - Rs.4000

Alumni/Alumna

Alumni Network is pretty huge.I am currently working in Bangalore. Every year we have an Alumni meet in Bangalore. It was really good and a huge number of people joined this event.

Exam Structure

2 Exams per year. Mid Semester End Semester However Class test and Practical are few extra tests which were also part of the curriculum.

Faculty

Most of the faculties are from NITs and IITs. Hence standard was pretty good. Yes few of them were really strict to their curriculum which made problem for few relaxed students.

Discriminate between locals and others mainly if you are from Bihar
Many fights between odia and bihari every year

Decent faculty and top tier placements, just follow the rules

Likes

I like the vibe of the canteen and greenery around my college

Dislikes

I don't like 75% attendance and the strictness of the faculty members

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum is now updated since it became a University, so its more relevant to industry now but still we have to do extra courses for coding. Exams happen every few months—2 internals and one end-sem. They are not very easy, you actually need to study to pass without backlogs

The infrastructure of each campus in the college is very pretty and it's a green campus
The classrooms are well equipped with WiFi, Smart-boards for digital education.
Also travelling from one campus to another has been made easier as buses and golf carts are provided to students

Dislikes

The crowd of students here is too much which feels too much chaotic and disturbing .
The hostel management here as they don't give importance to the major issues here.
The hostel mess food. The quality is degrading day by day

Placement Experience:

The placements of my college is good. This year 75% of the students are already placed with an average package of 8LPA . The highest package till now for this year is 22LPA. Many companies have visited for the placements and 100+ offers have been made. Companies like BNY, Infosys, Deloitte, Accenture, Capgemini, Cognizant, Bain& Company, High Radius, TCS, EY, PWC and many more of them have visited the campus.

Likes

The college campus greenery and campus cleaning management are doing really very well that is the only good part but that doesn't matter much for your career.
⭐⭐There is nothing good to mention about this college after going through all the procedures from taking admission to degree,I regret and many of my friends also regretting taking admission into this college.⭐⭐

Dislikes

They have a good well maintained cricket ground but students are never allowed there only for commercial purposes and to attract new joinee.
Staff and management are very helpful and polite only till admission done.🥲.
Hostel food quality is extremely unhigenic, no one takes responsibility after many complaints also.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Course curriculum was very classical , too much theory oriented for placement point of view they will provide last 1 month or 2 months training for aptitude part rest for technical you have to study on your own.

Beautiful campus with lot's of space and with good computer labs
They conduct exam in very smoothly manner

Dislikes

Need to improve administrative building while submitting fees many students face problem
Lab session of some subjects are too long which is around 3 hrs which need to reduce for atleast 2 hrs

Placement Experience:

Placement opportunities in my college are good, with students generally becoming eligible for campus placements from the pre-final or final year, depending on the course and company criteria. The college has an active placement celll that supports students by Organizing training sessions, resume building and also mock interviews.

Honest and Genuine review of NIT Rourkela

So I choose these college over the others because of its relevant name and the hype of this college In India as It is Institute of national importance And also a government backed college and it is one of the most demanded college. So the colleges which I have applied to are DTU, NSUT, Nit Trichy, Nit Warangal, Nit Surat Kal And top 7 iits. No I was not rejected from the other college which I have applied to but the combination of branching and the college value Doesn't satisfied me for taking admission in that colleges. So the admission process for the Nit Rourkela Is that the eligibility criteria is 75% in 12th class And second criteria is to clear the entrance exam which is the JEE mains and also scoring a very good marks in it. Then by the centralised Josaa Counselling student will fill their choices ,lock and get allotments in the upcoming rounds of the josaa counselling. The ending rank to take admission in this college in the EC branch is about a 6000-7000 rank in the jee mains exam for the other state people. The Admission steps include 1)register and appear for jee mains 2) Get jee rank and register on the Josaa Portal 3) Fill college and branch choices 4) seat allotment in rounds; upload documents and pay seat acceptance fees 5) final admission after physical document verification at Nit Rourkela....Read More

Discovering NIT Rourkela

I chose NIT rourkela based on my JEE rank, as this was the highest rated college I could get.It had good placements, had a high NIRF ranking and in comparsion to my other choices was the clear winner. The admission process takes place through JOSSA counselling for B.Tech.After being alloted a college on site registration takes place followed by hostel allocation and branch admission , a procedure that lasts about 6-10 hours. To avail admission you need to have a good JEE Main rank for which previous year cutoffs are available on the internet....Read More
