IIT dreams

None but the atmosphere led to many suicides in the hostel especially amongst Btech as most students did not want others to perform. That was the only bad thing. The rest were good. Good campus life and a deviation from the Indian way of studying. Open book exams were tough as even studying didn't help. Concepts mattered a lot.

IIT entrance for MSc courses, took it as it was highly valued and both engineering physics and MSc courses were conducted together.

Main was physics, Mathematical, Physics and computer science was also part of the course. Other options like nuclear physics, solid-state physics, etc were there.

There was no internship/ stipend at that time for MSc courses, maybe now it is introduced. Since it is a degree course no stipend was offered.

None from within campus, but IIT degree had value. Many people went for research courses in the US and some joined IISc TiFR etc.

IIT Bombay had a grand yearly event where all the colleges in Bombay participated and were very famous ones. Participation was good and it is a 2 weeks long program, very extensive participation from Bombay colleges and knows for its high standards.

There was no need for availing loans as the expenses were less and a lot of scholarships were available.

Campus life was good and hectic. Life goes on till a minimum of 12. Mostly very few bunked classes. Since the campus was very active even at mid-night there were a lot of Maggi food joints available. Also, outside shops near the gate were open till 1 o clock.

Hostel fees were the main ones and also was cheaper than normal engineering colleges. Food was just ok.

There were networks but post-graduate students were not very active in them. The Alumni network is also there and many alumni contributed extensively for funding the institute. More than government funds even these funds helped a lot.

Open book exams and most people did not have much clue as to what is happening. Some of them studying helped but many were more based on our general understanding rather than doing a hectic workout. Also, discussions with classmates worked a lot in tackling these exams.

The faculty was intelligent but not great in teaching aspects. Mostly students were more interested than they should perform better than others or others should not perform.
