Remarks

The college is new and still budding. But having said that, there is tremendous opportunity for self growth and self evaluation. The NIT brand name sure does turn many heads outside college and some of my class mates are now in USA after writing GRE exam. I am preparing for CAT myself and expecting to get it by next year. It is a good college, students will have a lot of free time and misusing it will be bad.

Entrance Preview

IIT-JEE, AIEEE and BITSAT. scored 6000 in IIT and 7000 in AIEEE. I choose this college via AIEEE because of its location(south-near home). The admission was easy as there was not much competition given my rank.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

All ECE related courses were dealt with partially if not in detail. My electives were Image processing and Networks and Protocols. Most of the subjects were dealt with in detail even though the college was just budding. My final year project was on Machine automation.

Internships Opportunities

Being a new college, no companies offered internship specifically targeted at our college nor did our staff manage to draw some internships. We had to go to other IITs' and NITs' for internship.I went to an IIT (IITKharagpur) and the stifend was Rs.4000/- per month.

Placement Experience

2.5

The placements were good and companies were adequate. Many companies like Reliance Jio, L&T, L&T infotech, National Stock Exchange Infotech, Mu Sigma had visited for placement drives and about 70 percent of the final years got selected. All the companies offered an average package of 3.5 lakhs per annum. Snapdeal offered 15 lakhs per annum and 2 students bagged it. I got a package of 3.5 Lakhs.

College Events

4.5

We had 3 departments: ECE, EEE and CSE. Each department had its tech festival. Our festival was called Tarangg, the EEE festival was called SPREE and the CSE festival was called Knosys. The participation involves colleges in and around Karaikal and the festivals are conducted 3 days each at different times of the year. The first one being held in 2014.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is feasible but the college has the most costliest hostel fee among all NITs'. The parent would have to spend around Rs80000/- for their childs education per year. For SC/ST or OBC students, around under 50000 per year would suffice

Fees and Financial Aid

I did not apply for any scholarship, but i did apply for a loan through Indian Overseas Bank. The only scholarship i know is of SC/ST scholarship. I do not know the details, but many classmates took it.

Campus Life

1.5

Extracurricular activities were plenty in college. The funding was good and the staff was supportive of cricket, football and other competitions. We also had sports day every year where track and field sports were also played.

Hostel Facilities

2.5

Since there was no campus, the hostels were rented motels and clinics spread across the town. A college van would take us to and from the college. The rooms were quite good in our hostel but the food was not of a good quality. I donot know any PGs there.

Alumni/Alumna

The senior students were not that supportive and we did not share any particularly strong bond with them. We were the 2nd batch of the college and hence, there were no alumni.

Exam Structure

There are 2 cycle tests held every 2 months. Each test carries 20 marks which are added to a total of 40 marks. Two assignments worth 10 marks in total are given and the aggregate is 50. The final exam is held for 50 marks and all three types of assessment (cycle test, assignment and final) are added to get total score. From this, the GPA is calculated.

Faculty

3

They were supportive of self study and made students to arrive at answers on their own via self research. They were new and inexperienced but they knew the syllabus well and always made it a point to explain what they thought clearly. The labs were not good though engineering students were compromised with arts college labs. We did not get any quality practicals but the theory part was sound.

Placement Experience:

Students become eligible for placement from 3rd year 6th semester itself but the college does not bring any company for placement on time. 5 years back standard companies lkke tsc, hcl, cts etc used to come. But nowaday it is very rare. Lowest package is 2 lpa and highest package is 6 lpa. Average is 4 lpa. Very least students get placed. Try off campus. Do not believe the college
