Remarks

Located at the bustling southern kolkata, accessible via all modes of public transport makes it easier for the students to get to the college, the fst and the best one is train service, you just have to walk a few minutes after getting out of jadhavpur station, If u want to reach by road take a bus, numerous places to hangout with friends and the best thing is that it's crowded with food outlets. VJRC also famous for adda beside the college campus playground where u will not find that any of the kolkata colleges, many seniors of my school are admitted in this college in the previous year, and they said that faculty is good nice lab facility and most important part is teachers are very friendly and helpful.

Course Curriculum Overview

The most important thing is that there are no such restrictions of going to a certain place u can contact anyone whenever you want to go any place any lab at any time, the workshop classes provided all the necessary equipments needed to understand the course in well maintained way. College provides enough liabilities to cover it's course structure in a technical way.Teachers are very helpful and friendly.

Class Size: 15Course Fees: INR 3000 per year

Placement Experience

The placement picture is not so good, you can get immerse scope of research and at the some time all round development, huge number of people go for higher study.

College Events

In one word campus life is just amazing, being a student of this college I can personally assure that it is one of the elite most Institute under Calcutta university, and has been provided NAAC so, but I know that this seems undemocratic to give this advice but it is the most important thing that you need to take a acount in the Union authority of VJRC, make friends with seniors who is good and Trustable, there are no memorial Hall, Nazrul Manch is the venue for the fest which is organized by the student union, per year. Except these all department organized a welcome freshers program individually.

Scottish Church College: A Journey Worth Remembering

Likes

Fixed timetable Classes, regular assessment and class test
The professors are very qualified and their teaching style is excellent.
A lot of books are available in the main library as well as in the department library

Course Curriculum Overview:

The syllabus and curriculum of Calcutta University is aligned with other entrance examination (eg.IIT JAM, JEST, TIFR, GATE etc.) Specially for the Physics BSc course. And the syllabus is updated Artificial intelligence bacis, Python Advance level is in syllabus, it's completed in college. Point to be Noted - The time given to prepare for the exam is sometimes ample but sometimes it is very less. So we have to prepare syllabus in time which is little bit frustrating.

A fully equipted studio and lab for Journalism students

Dislikes

Things i disliked was the most has to be the locality the college is really nice but the locality is a bit shady

Course Curriculum Overview:

I always wanted to take up Journalism as a career and the thing which caught my attention in this college is that they have a fully equipted studio room and other colleges may have one but the students even publish there own news report here it prepars us very well for the real world

Likes

Supportive Faculty - The professors are highly qualified, approachable and always willing to help students
Free wifi support - There are free wifi support for both student and faculty
Fee Structure - It is very affordable and low compared to other colleges in the region

Dislikes

Placement support is below average, and most studnets have to apply for off campus jobs independently, which is really pathetic in the era of ai where getting a job as a fresher is so difficult
There is no dedicated support or placment cell initiative to help studnets land meaningful summer internships or any kind of internships

Placement Experience:

Students become eligible for campus placements starting from the 7th semester. For placement drives, we have to visit the main campus, Techno Main Salt Lake (TMSL). Since students from other Techno India campuses and branches also participate, the competition is extremely high. In the 2025–2026 academic year, fewer companies visited. Only two companies, Dronahost and WishCare, visited our specific campus directly. The remaining drives—mostly service-based companies like TCS and EY, along with a few startups—were conducted at the main campus. The remaining drives mostly service based companies like TCS, EY etc and quite a few startups has visited to main campus. The package they offered mostly in between 3.5lpa - 6 lpa. Furthermore the selection process of those startups is quite rigorous often consisting of upto 5 rounds of interview, two technical rounds with two technical interviews, and HR round My plans after getting the degree is either pursue an MBA or preparing for govt jobs

Campus life: Hype vs Truth

Likes

The discipline is followed very strictly. Also you have access to library which is good, teachers are helpful and no ragging policy which is strictly followed and has a decent environment.
Thery conduct seminars which encourages students. Many faculty members are knowledgeable experienced in their respective subjects and helpful willing to solve doubts beyond the classroom also.
The college has decent infrastucture including classrooms, labs and library .

Dislikes

While the curriculum is decent ,it lacks sufficeint practical implementation.More hands on projects, real world application and industry exposure would improve learning significantly.
Campus life can sometimes fell limited in terms of active student interaction.Opportunites for clubs, networking and collaborative activities could be improved.
The college comes under St tHomas School so the campus is not great it is compact and has a canteen.

Placement Experience:

I heard it from seniors that before lockdown it was pretty decent but after lockdown the company visits are not that much comapred to before lockdown.Cognizent, Accenture, Mindtree, PQ360 which is a startup company of our senior alumni etc. visits.

Likes

The campus is big and full of greenery with the vibrant feel of nature.
The students of the same batch are friendly and helpful.
The teacher's are friendly and helpful. They do provide helpful recommendations for the betterment of your future.

Dislikes

The seniors are overly harsh when it comes to 1st year.
The infrastructure could be worked on. The college lacks renovation.
The hostel does require everyday cleaning and renovation as well as the campus.

Placement Experience:

I don't know much about this but I guess from the sixth semester the students are eligible for campus placements. This year a student from AEIE got a package of 11.2 lacs per annum and the average is around 4 lacs per annum.

The Framework is said to be great, with well equipped classroom and simply get to the libraries.
The offices at this college are great. In any case, these changes depending on the quality of the companies going by the college and the victory of the internship changes by the internship.
Understudies appreciate the campus life and flexibility to associate with others understudies. However, there are few impediments such as the division of floors between senior and junior. College life is nice and could be an inviting place for others

Dislikes

The college doesn't have lodging, and understudies must organize their settlement locally.
The college doesn't have a big field to play like any other big college

Placement Experience:

In Syamaprasad College placements and internships are given to the final year students. And the companies that offer placements are Accenture, Deloitte, KPMG, etc. The highest package goes up to 20-24 lakhs and the average package goes to 6-8 lakhs. 70-80% of students get their placement in my college. At that time I planned to get the degree and apply to a multinational company with a high salary package with company facilities.

My experience as a student of Vijaygarh Jyotish Ray College

I liked the lab in this college that's why I chose this. Compared to other colleges this college had nice labs, had a good name, have had heard the faculty was nice hence chose this. In other colleges either the distance was a problem or the timing of the shifts. They post admission lists on the college official website. If you take admission based on your list you have to pay around 19k at first. If you wish to change your mind later, the college returns your money. I applied to Lady Brabourne College, Scottish Church College, Presidency University, Asutosh College out of many other colleges. I chose my college because of the lab and highly qualified faculty. Apart from that when the merit list was out in some of these colleges, I had already taken admission in my college. I didn't get any rejection. The issues were related to distance, lab, faculty or time of merit list. You are eligible based on your 10+2 results. All board exams are accepted. Cutoff 70%. Overall moderate experience...Read More
