Remarks

I've always wanted to be a part of a government college, just the sheer stories I've heard from my Dad's experiences at his government college only propelled my desire. I ended up choosing NIT Rourkela given its ranking among other colleges especially in the field of research and innovation, that mattered alot to me because its what I want to pursue in my career. Its best features include the curricular and extra curricular club culture, the scenic beauty, the opportunities for projects and internships. I opted for Computer Science as it was a budding interest of mine from the age of 14 and given the immense scope in nearly all walks of life in the future, it was a no brainer.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

Curriculum is pretty outdated. Many NITs still take the whole of the 1st year teaching subjects that aren't even relevant to the a certain course. For example, students who opted for Computer Science still had to do subjects like chemistry, biology and mechanics in the first year. The lab facilities are pretty old and need to be updated. Faculties method of teaching isn't very extraordinary, they use the same methods year after year I.e slides, black boards, reading straight from course books.

Placement Experience

4.5

Big companies like Amazon, Microsoft, John deere, SAP labs, Qualcomm, etc. Are very accustomed to NITR. Most students from the graduating branch get placed or prepare themselves for their higher studies. The entrepreneur cell of NITR has recently funded to regional startups based at NITR, Clavichord Academy and Yerevan Technologies.

College Events

4

Festivals are really well done in NIT Rourkela. Theres nearly 4 festivals annually and 2 of them being major ones with live performances from big names all across the country. Technical Festivals showcase the sheer talents and minds of the students body of work in NIT Rourkela and its always a commendable feat.

Fees and Financial Aid

Being a diaspora student, I could avail for the SPDC scholarship which provides a 50% deduction in the annual fees.

Campus Life

4

The facilities are being improved in NIT Rourkela. Especially recently with opening of a new lecture annexure which features smart boards and AC rooms. Sports facilities are really well maintained from the Olympic size swimming pool to renovation of the basketball courts and NIT Rourkela also hosted the latest Inter-NIT. Its definitely improving given how old the college is, its doing well.

Hostel Facilities

4

Since NIT Hostels are really old there isn't much to brag about. Rooms are fairly - small sized. Common bathrooms on every floor is cleaned once a day. For the boys hostel, you share a room with one other person and for the girls hostel you initially share a decent sized room with 3 other people. Facilities like Gym, washing machines(in 1 hostel), mess hall, canteens, reading rooms, laundry service are all available in the Hostels.

Admission

Since I classify as a foreign student I joined the college through the DASA quota xam : SAT II, Year : 2019, Score : 2400/2400

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum is now updated since it became a University, so its more relevant to industry now but still we have to do extra courses for coding. Exams happen every few months—2 internals and one end-sem. They are not very easy, you actually need to study to pass without backlogs

Course Curriculum Overview:

The pedagogy is excellent since majorly learning is through real-world case studies, reserach papers, peer discussions and interactive class activities. The professors provide materials and pre-reads at the starting of the term and the content is highly focussed on practical learning. The AI sessions are enriching. The difficulty level of exams vary among the instructors but usually is aligned with topics already taught.
