CUSAT, Bachelor of Technology

Reviewed on Nov 14, 2020(Enrolled 2018)

Remarks

A good teaching staff and study environment. The campus is located in the midst of city so, there is no issue of transport. Facilities are decent. University has its own restaurant which serves good quality food at a decent rate. Overall it is a good place to graduate.

Course Curriculum Overview

Student ratio is 1:3. Teachers are well qualified. All of them have at least M.Tech. degree. Permanent faculties are all PhD. Exam schedules are a bit off track. Questions are moderate.

Class Size: 50

Placement Experience

3.5

Students become eligible for placements in seventh semester. August onwards companies start coming and recruiting students. On campus highest package is around 2.2m and average is 400k. If you're from CS/IT, there is a good chance that you'll be placed easily.

College Events

Campus life is kinda cool. We live at a PG. We have our own cook who comes 2 times a day. We have many a number of fests. Dhishna being the major one. There is a University Library which has books from all fields of study. Then there is University Ground for sport lovers. There are a vast number of clubs run and managed by students.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fee is low as compared to other institutions offering same course. There are scholarships for batch toppers which is funded by TEQIP. Companies come over for placements and some of them offer above average packages. All you need is thorough knowledge of your course.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

I live in a PG. Locality is good. Neighbours and landlords won't bother you much if you don't bother them. You will have to keep a cook which take a reasonable price and come twice a day. Apart from that there are a good number of cafeterias and hotels where you can eat.

Hostel Fee: INR 2000 per year

Admission

We qualified through Common Entrance Test(CAT). It is an online test of 3 hours. All the questions are Multiple Choice. Mathematics part has the highest number of questions followed by Physics and Chemistry.

All the teachers are well qualified and equipped to teach but the quality of teaching differs as per individual.

Dislikes

The say of students in matters concerning them or others is nil. We have very little say as the management takes all decisons.
Teachers have ego and superiority issues between themselves which might affect the children in 4th year, project phases.
Fests, events and functions are not upto any expectations.Schools in trivandrum have better events than our college.

Placement Experience:

Students are eligible from 7th semester to sit for interviews. The pod.ai app helps us in making the resume and calculating a cgpa to appear for the intwrviews. The pod.ai registration fees is 500?. Companies such as nissan, infosys, commandtech, bimlabs, gulfasia etc has visited . And the highest package was 11 LPA and lowest was 3 LPA

TIST , Great college , fun events and more

Likes

Our seniors passed out with flying colors joining different companies or starting their own. There's a good focus on peer learning and student communities which is pretty nice. Canteen food is decent and labs are great
Most people and professors are friendly and they encourage you to try out new things.

Dislikes

Hostel water , busses are pretty fast. Sometimes roads are a bitt rough

Course Curriculum Overview:

Course curriculum is under KTU syllubus do it's fine. There is a change in curriculum coming 2024 which i assume would make a lot of good changes. The curriculum gives you a head start For most of your work, you need to on your own but the faculty is there to help. The frequency of exams is weekly tests + monthly exams. Its not too difficult of an exam.

I feel like staffs in my department are pretty good, atleast they fullfill their duties to cover the portions in right time
We have placements training, offered free of cost by college itself
Notes and necessary materials for studying are provided from college itself, and most teachers don't force on buying textbooks or other materials

Dislikes

College is located in aarakunnam, which is a bit remote area hence for various needs we often need to travel a few kilometres even for basic necessities
The road to collage entrance is a steep road, and currently it's under construction (it's been a yr)
Students are required to park their vehicles outside the college, as there is no parking facilities for students inside campus

Placement Experience:

Currently placements are bit low, due to inflation, but compared to other colleges like KMEA, etc we have better placements similar to Muthoot and all. We have placement training, and other supports which can help us crack aptitude exams and prepare for placements Almost 70-80% students are placed every year, with an avg package of 4LPA

When it comes to the campus life, I enjoyed all the 4 years
The infrastructure was okayish Could've improved.
The faculty was really friendly and I was able to approach them without any hesitation.

Dislikes

The road from the junction to the college is not at all maintained. Students coming up the hill find it very difficult to reach college
The bus fees are increased every year. But these people can't find a way to provide seats for the students after paying their bus fee.
Some other campus offer many varieties of food in their canteen. This has to be done here too

Placement Experience:

The students usually start appearing for campus placements in their 6th semester. The training for the campus placements is started for all the students from the 4th semester. Many companies visited for campus placements. But one main problem is that most of them were low packages. Around 4LPA. Some were between 4-6 and a very few between 6-10. Most of them got placed in our batch in some company.

Good learning environment with a good campus life

I choose Cochin University Of science and technology for Mtech Instrumentation Technician beacuse of its good reputation, affordable fees, and experienced faculty, and better focus on core technical subjects. I also got admission to Delhi University, but i prefer CUSAT because it was more affordable and better suited for instrumentation and automation studies. Admission to CUSAT is mainly based on GATE score and eligibility in a relevant BTech degree. The admission procees include online application and a exam DAT , rank list based on DAT , documenr verification, and fee payment. Life of CUSATian

I have only applied to CUSAT, we i was not able to get admission there i would choose to work in a company. It was just a try from my side, but it actually worked out. For MTech, GATE qualifiers can direclty get the admission without any other exams. They can also avail monthly stipent of around Rs 10000. Other exam for admission is DAT exam which is conducted by the respective department of the course. I have taken the DAT exam under the Department of Statistics , where this MTech Data Science and Analytics is present. The eligibility includes BTech or MSc. Cutoff is majorly based on the number of students writing the exams and the number of seats. So cutoffs can vary. Students are selected based on the DAT ranklist. Spot admission is conducted for the remaining seats. There is also a least chance for students who didnt write the DAT Exam can also get the admission at the 2nd or 3rd spot admissions....Read More
