The department of biotechnology and bioinformatics (BT & BI) is one of the best department of Sambalpur University. The department facilitated with various majors facilities such as state-art-of laboratories, outstanding library and highly qualified faculty members. There are more than 10 laboratories for both biotechnology and bioinformatics for each. For admission, the candidates are follow up with the official website of Sambalpur University. The department of biotechnology and bioinformatics conduct entrance examination each year for M.Sc, M.Phil, and PhD. The selection process is based on the performance of entrance examination and academic score of previous exam. There are also reservation for SC/ST and Pwd candidates.

M.Sc in bioinformatics is one of the unique course which is the combination of biotechnology and information technology. I choose this course because in today's world, scope of bioinformatics is progressively increasing in India and overseas. The professors of BT & BI have more than 10 years of teaching experience and involved in research paper publication with reputed journals like Springer and Nature. The students faculty ratio of the department is 14:1. All the faculty members holded PhD and postdoc from IITs and Foreign universities. Although the faculty members are very punctual to cover the entire syllabus before the semester.The course curriculum is 70% based on CSIR/NET JRF, so the students who wants to crack NET exam, they does not need to prepare separately. 90% of students get 7.0 CGPA in semester exam.

I have done a internship during summer vacation at NIT Rourkela, department of life science. There was stipend offered at that period of time. My project was purely based on data analysis which a important part of bioinformatics area. My work was to analyze the data from microarray datasets.

Only the final year student can attend the during placement process. Most of the students selected are from MBA department and computer science department. The companies like Infosys, TCS and various biotechnology industry visited through placement and offered job profiles like business executive, project manager etc. The average salary package offered by the recruiters is 3.5 LPA and highest goes up to 5 Lakhs. 60% students get placed through placement process. After finished my degree, my nest move is to do PhD in any discipline from biotechnology or bioinformatics.

As previously said it has a clean and noiseless environment. The university have all kinds facilities such as hospital, hotels, guest house, market, ATM and polish station. Every year more than two fest organised through authorities of SU. SUIIT fest is one of those which is organized by sambalpur university, institute of information technology where various celebrities such as musicians and comedians are invited from Ollywood. Lot of extracurricular activities organizes such sports, singing, dancing and many more by the extracurricular authority of SU. There are 30,000 books are available in the library and have a students portal where soft copy of books from all disciplines can be downloaded.

There are few scholarships avail such as Prerna scholarship (ST/SC) which cost for 10,000 per year Medhabruti scholarship for eligible candidates only. Other scholarships which is conducted by institute of mathematics. To get this scholarship, the students first need to clear the entrance exam. Only physics, chemistry, mathematics, computer science and bioinformatics students can apply for this scholarship. The highest amount of this scholarship is about 50,000 per selected students.

The infrastructure of sambalpur university is really awesome because of the noiseless and fresh environment. Almost every department provides wi-fi facilities and have well equipped laboratories and specially chemistry, BT & BT and life science department. This three are the best department of sambalpur university.Theree is a large playground for of sports where students play football, basketball and cricket. The university facilitates with two separate libraries which consists of more than 30,000 books where students from all departments issued books. Apart from this every department have their own library.

There are more than 10 hostels, out of them 6 hostels are women's hostels and rest of them are for boys. Also there are other accomodation facilities for PhD and Postdoc students. The superintendents take all responsibility of the hostels. Every rooms are two or four seated. The hostel registration process only based on the distance of the students residents. Accordingly, they create a list of allotment of the students. The hostel accommodation is really affordable, they take minimum charges for each students every year.
