Remarks

While deciding on a good college for myself, I shortlisted Thapar Institute of Technology and Lovely Professional University. I received negative feedback for TIET from my friends and relatives because of its high fees and lack of student security. Hence I chose Lovely Professional University. LPU has a quota for defense personnel/ ex-serviceman wards and it also provides scholarships to students getting a merit in their 12 board exams. Integrating these quotas, I received net 45% relaxation on my tuition fees(98000). For admission at LPU, one must write an entrance exam named LPUNEST and the score obtained in the exam decides the eligibility of the student for admission. If one has scored 90+% in his/her 12th boards, he/she is exempted from writing LPUNEST. The counseling process was online in 2020 and it was really fun. They discussed each and every facility available at the campus and we also interacted with the higher authorities at LPU. It was a really nice experience.

Course Curriculum Overview

3

My course is B.tech Information Technology. IT is the fastest growing industry and has so much scope in the future. The number of faculty members at LPU is very large and the teachers are supportive. Each student at LPU is allotted a mentor to guide and resolve any queries of the student. Regular meetings with the mentor are held to discuss the problems of the student. Since everything is online nowadays, teachers too suffer internet connection problems and sometimes there is chaos in the online meetings but the technical team is always on the go whenever there arises any glitch. The majority of the teachers are Ph.D. holders. Teachers focus only on teaching and unnecessary conversations are always avoided. There are CA's(continuous assessment), midterms, and end-term examinations. Usually, a one-week time is given before any CA and approximately 10 days are given before mid and end terms. Students get ample time for preparation. The question paper is easy and can be easily passed with a good CGPA.

Internships Opportunities

2.5

LPU gives many internship opportunities to its students. Various companies that provide internship opportunities at LPU are CAW STUDIO, INVICTUS, SPOTTABL, ARETE14, etc. However, as per my observation, the number of students selected for internship drives is very less.

Placement Experience

2.5

At LPU, students are prepared for their placements right from their first year. In the first semester, personality development is a separate subject in the curriculum. The summer PEP program is studied after the end of the first year. From the 7th semester, students are eligible to sit in campus placements. Various tech companies visit LPU such as Microsoft, Amazon, Capgemini, Cognizant, Informatica, etc. Last year, the highest package availed was Rs.42L given by Microsoft. Till now, 1400+ recruiters hired from LPU and placements record is certainly increasing year by year. In my opinion, one should not completely rely on the campus placements because the most talented and sincere students are only getting placed with a good salary package. Either you should hon exceptional hard as well as soft skills or find a job off-campus. I am not looking forward to sitting for the campus placements rather I choose to appear for the GATE examination and go for Public Sector Units.

Fees and Financial Aid

The per semester tuition fees of Btech Information Technology is Rs.98000. At the time of admission, maximum students receive scholarships and their fees are reduced. In my case, I got a 45% scholarship and my tuition fees were reduced to Rs.53900. Talking about residential and mess, there are several options to choose for the type of hostel and mess and the charges vary. To avail extra facilities inside the campus like the gym, pools, courts, etc. separate fees should be paid.

Campus Life

4.5

LPU is a beehive. There is always something going on in each and every department, be it the fashion department or the electronics department. The major fests of LPU are OneIndia, OneWorld, and Youth vibe. The libraries are pitch-perfect and open 24x7. You name it and the book is there! The classrooms are well-conditioned with projectors and can easily accommodate at least 100 students. A student has full freedom to enroll in whichever co-curricular activity he wants. There are clubs for dance, music, arts, theatre, public speaking, etc. Talking about sports, various competitions are held to encourage the spirit of sportsmanship. Various sports played are badminton, football, formula1 racing, cricket, e-sports, etc. All the events at LPU are organized by the students themselves. There are various student clubs such as Academic and Technical, Agriculture, Artisan, Ayurveda and Yoga, Entrepreneurship, etc. For example, AASHRAY is a social service student organization at LPU.

Hostel Facilities

4

The hostel rooms at LPU are provided with a separate bathroom, an almirah, a table, a chair, and a single bed. You have options to choose a single room, room shared with 2 or 3 roommates, or a dormitory. The charges vary. The mess also has the standard and basic options and the charges and meal vary but the food quality is very poor. Mess is 100% vegetarian. The LPU hostels are 100% secured and there is also a tuck shop provided inside the hostel premises where you can buy basic daily objects. The registration for the hostel and mess is done at the time of admission. The hostels are clean and full of greenery. There is good ventilation and regular room cleaning is done by the helpers. No foreign objects such as alcohol, cigarettes, non-veg dishes, electrical equipment are allowed. The curfew time for girls is 7 pm in summers and 6 pm in winters whereas there is no curfew time for boys which I believe is not at all fair.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
