Remarks

The institute is small. It has an intake capacity of 100 students per batch thus the atmosphere is not vibrant .Plus it only has one subject t teach, Computer Science thus inter-departmental interactions are impossible.

Entrance Preview

IIITMK Admission Test held in the month of June every year. Out of many institutes only this institute offers the courses which are not taught at the Masters' level in any university. That made me opt for the course on M.Sc in Computer Science with Specialization in Machine Intelligence.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

To be frank , the course curriculum is quite vast than the time amounted to it. There are 12 core courses in Machine Intelligence specialization along with another 6 electives which are need to be taken care of in 3 semesters. Last semester is for research/internship and credit point is credited on par with the quality of research.

Internships Opportunities

Yes , as mentioned above the institute does provide internship opportunity and the last semester is allotted for that. There is intern position in the institute itself as well as outside in the corporate sector. An internship can be done anywhere under the supervision and as being in the middle of one of the largest IT park in India , Technopark, there is no dearth of companies to apply for.

Placement Experience

3

As mentioned above it is situated in the middle of an one of the largest IT park in India, there are lots of companies around to work or apply for. And most of those companies visit the campuses for possible recruitment. Apart from this many companies have tie-ups for research purposes and they also offer research oriented job.

College Events

3

Events I celebrated or participated includes, Intel IoT workshops on Intel Galileo by IISc, Workshop on Artificial Neural Network by ACM Workshop on Open Source technologies by RedHat, Ethical Hacking and Facebook by ECCounsil in a 2 month's period. Apart from that, there are cultural festivals and tech fest. Techfest includes chess-bot championship , chess competition, Gaming contest. A half monthly programming contest is organised internally every 15 days. And there is also machine Learning competition held by the SIGs of different societies.

Fee Structure And Facilities

It is a fully government own institution so the fee structure is feasible than the most and all of the private colleges. Fees are though more than that of Central universities like BHU or DU but then again it is a computer oriented course geared towards research.

Fees and Financial Aid

All the SC/ST students are fully reimbursed of their studies along with tuition fee as well as hostel and mess fees. Apart from that , participation in industry tie-ups research project or Govt funded projects can give you stipends as well for limited amount of time

Campus Life

4

A debate competition was held recently on the topic of US presidential election as well as should India adopt a Presidential system or not. There are mainly education oriented societies. A photography society is running along with trekking society. Cultural events are organised along with sports events

Hostel Facilities

2

Hostel facilities and mess facilities are poor. There are only 3 to 4 single or double shared rooms available and the rest are 3 shared and they are allotted to first cum first serve basis. Food is of local type and being a north Indian it is hard . There is no north Indian mess available here as well.

Alumni/Alumna

Senior students are helpful at every stage and the societies make the interaction helpful. Alumni s are helpful too and they also help in a lot of ways. Some of them are working in the institute also as JRF. That makes the situation very good.

Exam Structure

There is 3-semester exams and 1 internal and 1 model exam in every semester along with the lab exams. Yes, it does make your life a little hectic but that what exams are for. But all the students score an average 8 lowest being 7 out of 10. So almost all of them despite the hectic schedule secure good marks.

Admission

The common admission test happens in the first week of June and after securing a decent score and rank one needs to sit for the counseling process where they get to choose the specialization they are interested in. No interview is conducted. After the counseling process is done which ca be completed online or offline, one needs to deposit the admission amount through net banking o DD along with the photocopy of necessary documents. After the full admission, every other original document needs to be presented to the official which are necessary to be evaluated.

Faculty

4

Speaking only about the Machine Intelligence faculty , they are more research oriented than job or course oriented. They even allow you to take up to 5 or 6 institute's research project in the first semester. As there are lots of research going on in the institute in IoT, Machine Learning, SVM, ANN, Text Processing, Image Analysis, Medical Image Processing in the Machine Learning field so there is no dearth of project's availability

Placement Experience:

IIT Palakkad performs admirably under the direction of IIT Madras, and the college's placement record is as impressive. The college achieves a placement rate of 100 percent. The placement committee at the college is so dedicated that they are able to not only attract good firms but also assist us during the placement stages. Our batch's maximum package was 35 LPA, while the average package was roughly 15 LPA. During the placement drive, companies such as Google, Arista Network, TCS Research, McKinsey, Honeywell, Texas Instruments, and Microsoft visited the campus.

College management is efficient. But the office staff is irresponsible. We have to give our certificates before admission, but they will store the certificates as a irrelevant piece of paper. We got our certificates back as folded and dirty.
