Remarks

I had applied to numerous other colleges like NIT Silchar, B. Borooah College but Tezpur University being a central university with a good NIRF ranking attracted me, and so I joined it. My quota for admission was OBC-NCL. The admission to the majority of courses at Tezpur University is done via TUEE entrance. TUEE syllabus is mainly the requisite knowledge needed before joining the particular course. The results are released in the form of two lists: The merit list and the Waiting list. If the aspirants from the merit list do not opt for the seat, then the sequence of ranks is followed from the waiting list and the seats are given to them. The counselling is done at university premises on a given date. The lists are prepared on the basis of marks obtained in TUEE.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

My reason to choose Integrated M.Sc in Chemistry was that I have always been fascinated by Chemistry and I knew that in future, I would like to receive a doctorate in the disciple of Chemistry. The faculty: student ratio is 1:30. The chemistry major classes of Integrated M.Sc and Integrated B.Sc. B.Ed. are done together. The faculty of the department of Chemical Sciences is rich and highly professional. Every individual professor is good and the focus is given to making the students understand the concepts of Chemistry. There are four term examinations in each semester: Test 1 (25 marks), Test 2 or Midterm (40 marks), Test 3 (25 marks) and Test 4 or Endterm (60 marks). The grading is relative and the question papers are set to test our knowledge of applications and theoretical concepts. They are easy to difficult depending on the course instructor.

Fees and Financial Aid

The semester fees for Integrated M.Sc. in Chemistry is approximately Rs. 17000. In the hostel, one has to pay the mess fees every month, which ranges from Rs. 1500 to Rs. 2300 (depending on the hostel). There are numerous scholarships that one can avail like Ishan Uday, Inspire SHE etc. Although there is no exposure to internships and jobs at the campus. The classes take the majority of your time (9 to 5) and it is difficult to manage both.

Campus Life

4

There are multiple annual fests depending on the School of Studies. Festivals like TechXetra (School of Engineering), InScignis (School of Sciences) etc. There is also an annual fest conducted in the month of February where all sorts of sports and cultural completions are held (hostel wise and individual). The Central library is well furnished with books of all genres and remains open till 1 am. Students are allowed to issue 6 to 8 books at a time. There are cricket fields, badminton fields, lawn tennis fields, football fields, basketball fields inside the campus. There is also a swimming pool. Instructors are available for all indoor games. Other than sports, there is a literary club, quizzing club, music club, dance club which are run by students and funded by the administration. The official website of Tezpur University is www.tezu.ernet.in. It is run by the administration. There are Instagram and Facebook pages for each club, run by the students and coordinators.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

All the hostels are furnished with a normal sized non-ac double rooms. Each student is provided with a bed, chair, table and a wardrobe. There are facilities like washing machines in some hostels. The mess is run by the students of the hostel. The meal quality is adequate but the menu fluctuates, depending on the students who run it. The food is cooked in standard hygiene and is timely provided. Hostels are assigned to all students at the time of admission. There are no extra hidden costs other than hostel admission and mess fee. There are numerous PGs and rooms outside the campus. The locality is loving and homely, as it is not completely urban.

The teachers prepare students well for jobs at different companies and gives marks based on our understanding of the subject. But some of the teachers need to interact more with the students. The internal examination are not well timed and give little time for students to study.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The reason behind choosing this course is my deep interest in research area as our department shows good result in research domain .The curriculum provides us some topics that are to be deeply understood like we are imagining those topics in 3-D way and that will helps us in future aspects. The thing that need to be changed in our curriculum is course pattern itself because it lacks familiarity with CSIR - NET syllabus. The exams are held in the month of June and December and the difficulty level of the exam is from moderate to hard
