Remarks

I have always been curious about how things work, and I guess thats what led me to Engineering. Currently, at UIET Chandigarh, I am enrolled in the ECE branch there are about 121 students. I also applied for IIIT Una and IIIT Bhalaglur and a few newer IIITs which my JEE rank allowed but instead of choosing newer IIITs, I chose UIET Chandigarh as I heard it had better infrastructure, teachers, and overall facilities and it seems it was true. Also, UIET is a department of Punjab University that has a pretty good reputation. I belong to OBCcategory from Uttar Pradesh but here, there was no reservation criteria written for OBC, insted they had a BC category and they mentioned that a BC certificate was required not OBC so I went to the tehsildar and had a certificate made. The admission is via JEE mains ,JAC counselling is done ,you apply for it they release cutoffs for branches and much like JoSSA. At my time of admission counselling was online so pds of docs were sent by me.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The Course of B.E. in ECE is much like any other college. I chose ECE as it was second best after computer science and also I had some interest in working of electronic devices and computers. The faculty to student ratio is around 1:20 i.e for every 20 students it has 1 faculty member. Most of the faculty members are P.hd holders and ECE professors are more are even more dedicated to their work than other branches here. In online mode , they taught using ppt, pds, some even used videos ,they shared notes via Google Classroom and pds of books were also sent . For exams, in a semester, we had 2 minor exams of 30 marks each and the best one of those 2 was selected and a Major exam of 50 marks along with 20 marks for internal assessment. The exams were mostly moderate to easy and passing was not too tough.

Internships Opportunities

4

Most companies hired students for IT work during internships .There are quite many opportunities and getting an Internship is not too difficult here . Stipend for interns are not too high though. Amazon was the biggest company for internship here but only the few could make it . Wipro ,TCS,Infosys and many more took interns for IT related work. Some worked on websites ,some went for Data science and ML . the roles differed from student to student based on their fileds of interests . Some got Pre Placment Offers while others did not but almost all of those that get interships are sure to land a job (and also a decent one in majority of the cases). Interships helped to learn real life implementation of theory learned in college and also the inerviews of internship gave an Idea of what tech interviews are like for most of the students.

Placement Experience

3.5

Intership drives start from the 5th sem onward here and many students grab internships and some companies even offer Pre Placement Offers to students. Companies that recruited from UIET include Amazon, Microsoft , wipro , Goldman Sachs, TCS, Infosys, etc. Campus placments start from 7th sem onwards and more than 95 percent of CSE students get placed around 90 percent of IT students and about 70 percent pf ECE students the major recruiters hire for IT fileds only . The highest package was 31 LPA ,around 5 to 6 students got selected in amazon and 1 even made it to Google via Off-campus Placment. As per 2021 stats, 286 total students were placed on campus with average package of 6LPA and highest being 31LPA .There are good placmets for CSE and IT branch and above average for ECE branch.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee was around Rs.99295 for a year (Excluding hostel and exam fee) .The exam fee is Rs.2500 per semester .The fee is lesser compared to other engineering colleges in India , the fee hike was not much and cost to study is much affordable. Coleege had some scholarship programs and a teacher even gave monetary help to a financially weak student from his own salary! Some students were selected for scholarship which was based on merit. Mostly students get a Job of average CTC 6 LPA but some even bagged great ones from microsoft and amazon.

Campus Life

4

Fests of UIET are average ones with a lot of fun. There is GOONJ between April to June and it is one of the best Fests of UIET. There are also musical fests at several occasions like Independence day,Republic Day. Thechnical fests are there but not as frequent as cultural fests. There's the AC Joshi Library (The biggest Library in Asia) and its like a symbol of pride to UIETians . We are given a library pass to access the facilities of the library. There is also an abundance of sports and extra curriculars here, (Neeraj Chopra himself was a part of PU ) There are many clubs and societies run by stuents here, viz. IEEE, PClub, Euphoria, Debsoc, EDC, BPC and many many more. Some students choose evne 3 to 4 clubs at a time .

Course Curriculum Overview:

I would rate the course plan around 7 out of 10 in terms of relevance and depth. I chose this course mainly because it includes core tech subj like DSA, DBMS, OS, AI and cloud, which are useful for jobs in tech field. The presence of lab work and proj based learning also influenced my choice. The curriculum gives a fair base in theory and basic prac skills. It helps in campus place prep and also builds base for higher study like MTech or MS. But real world skill still depends a lot on self study, online course and side proj. Some topics feel updated, but a few subj are still too theory heavy and not linked to real case use. Exams are held twice as mid test and once as end term in each sem. There are also quiz, viva and lab eval. The level is moderate. If you attend class and revise notes, it is manageable. For improve, more live proj, hack event, ind visit and case study should be added. Teach method should shift more to code demo and less slide read
