Remarks

I had a real interest in chemistry. And, upon asking some of the professionals in my field, I found that NIT Rourkela is the best place for growing in my specified field of interest. It has perfect faculty members, who are always eager on helping students at need. Not only that, but I got to know that the campus life is very buzzing and a perfect place to improve your overall personality.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The courses and curriculum are well knit to satiate the intellectual demands of the students. The curriculum basically helps the student to explore different interjection of subjects( like if you know coding and your specification is chemistry, then you can experience the field of Computational chemistry). However, the different option of subjects that is given to choose during normal Bsc program is not awarded here. I have to read many engineering, human sciences, management subjects. These subjects might or might not be liked by every individual. In first year of all programmes, the subject remains common. It means you will get to know about every possible subject taught in the institute to a basic level.I get ample amount of time to indulge myself in activities other than studies which has definitely improved my personality. Apart from our course work, three months summer holiday is given which is utilized by students to work as intern. There occur a midsem and an endsem(totalling to 100 marks per subject). All the faculty members are great. They are understanding and will help you in every possible manner to help you grow. And most of the faculties have atleast a PG degree, so they are highly qualified in their field of interest.

Internships Opportunities

4.5

There are many research opportunities available. Infact you can work under the institute faculties and can gain a lot of experience in the field you are interested in. Almost every institute produces some internship seats every year. You can apply on those and get your internship experience. Your CG and a letter of proposal plays an important role here. In chemical sciences field, it totally depends upon yourself to get internship experiences. Even if you dont get internship through any program. You can always mail professors to get any kind of internship in your area of interest. However internship programs offer stipends. It varies according to the institute finances.

Placement Experience

4

There are majorly two ways in which students go after taking Integrated MSC Chemistry courses. One is higher studies like joining any PhD program. Other one is joining private institutes for teaching Jee, Neet students. Private institute like Akash, Allen etc visit the campus. They give lucrative offers to students if they perform well during the interview sessions. However majority of them, give CSIR NET, GATE and other such exams and apply for PHD positions in various institute to carry out there research careers. GATE exam also helps you to get into PSU.There is one other option. After completing the course, if you undertake a BEd course, you are eligible for teaching high school students.I personally will go for the first option. That is I will go for a Phd program and continue my research career further.

Campus Life

5

The campus remains very energetic for all day. After regular 8 am to 5 pm classes, students indulge themselves in different clubs where they develop or upgrade different skills. The clubs are run by students. The senior students teaches the junior students and the legacy continues. The finances for all the club related works are provided by institute. Tech fest, Cultural fest, Annual fest all are run by students with the name of this fests changing every year. Tech fest normally occur at the end of September. And cultural fest during March. Apart from this, there occur fest for individual hostels, twice every year. Both the fests contain competitions with special DJ and music nights planned out for enjoyment. There are two main events in sports. Vriddhi and Inter NIT. The time and place of occurrence of this events depend upon the decision of the higher authorities. These sports events contains different fields of sports like football, cricket, basketball, volleyball, tennis, swimming, table tennis, badminton etc. The teams who manage these fest and events are elected through voting system. Apart fro a big library building where you can physically rent books, there are different E sources available which also contains access to very important softwares and applications.

Admission

There is no interview sessions for admissions into Integrated MSC, Btech , BArc programs. You have to sit for JoSSA and CSAB counselling. A set of 7 rounds + special round is being created. In each round, a particular range of ranks are selected and the corresponding students are summoned for further admission process. However for post graduate courses interview is a must. I being a undergraduate student didnt go through any interview or GD sessions.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum is now updated since it became a University, so its more relevant to industry now but still we have to do extra courses for coding. Exams happen every few months—2 internals and one end-sem. They are not very easy, you actually need to study to pass without backlogs

Course Curriculum Overview:

The pedagogy is excellent since majorly learning is through real-world case studies, reserach papers, peer discussions and interactive class activities. The professors provide materials and pre-reads at the starting of the term and the content is highly focussed on practical learning. The AI sessions are enriching. The difficulty level of exams vary among the instructors but usually is aligned with topics already taught.
