Remarks

The presence of the Durgapur Steel Plant near the college motivated me to pick this college. Since civil engineering was the only decent branch I could get into a good NIT, I selected this college. Further when I entered the college I was happy to learn about the college culture, the club culture and the interaction with the seniors and peers. The same club culture which makes the campus so beautiful is also what makes it a bit tense. I would recommend my juniors to take NIT Durgapur as it will be a life-changing experience for them.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

I chose this course because it was the best among what was available to me. The student ratio is quite decent. While the professors are very knowledgeable, they are very strict as well. We have 2 exams apart from the end sem examinations and a student requires only about 7 days worth of preparation for passing these exams.

Internships Opportunities

0.5

No, I personally have not opted for any internship programs since I there have not been any opportunities for me yet.

Placement Experience

2.5

The college Training and Placement Cell provides excellent opportunities for placement for the final year students. Almost 60% of the college students are easily placed. The placement ratio however for the Civil Engineering branch, MME branch and Biotechnology branch is pretty low than the rest. But that is also because a lot of students from these branches opt to go for higher studies. However I must add that the syllabus needs to be updated as the industry standards have been growing at a very fast rate and if we can't keep up then employbility could be an issue. The internship opportunities however are not so great for students apart from the CSE, ECE and EE branch.

College Events

3

The campus life is awesome. There are some restrictions for the first year students but that is only to prevent ragging. The college has also made sports activities necessary for first year students with an option to join the NSS or the NCC as well. Apart from it, the college has teams for Inter-NIT competitions as well and Intra-NIT competitions are also organised throughout the year. The club culture I find to be absolutely very fantastic. All of them are very competitive amongst one another, but work in a perfect harmony in the college tech fest- Aarohan and multiple new hostels, auditoriums, libraries have/are been/being built in our beautiful campus. It is a joy to be at NIT Durgapur.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee structure is well balanced and the peer support is excellent. There are also state scholarships for students who are not so financially abled. Since I do not avail any such scholarships I am not the best guy to answer this question. There are also no campus jobs available as far as I'm aware of. The scholarship cell is very helpful as well.

Campus Life

5

We have two excellent sports grounds in the college. Them being, the Lords and Ovals. They also act as the stage for the college fest to be organised. The library has recently been renovated and a lot of online resources and research papers are being provided as well. The college has also bought a new 3-D printer and has also developed Pranayam and AMBU during the COVID period. In addition a lawn tennis court, a basketball court and several badminton courts are also present in the campus. Handball, cricket and football is very much appreciated with the addition of Athletics into it. Those who have the will, can easily make the most of the facilities.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

The hostel facility for the first year students is very good and special care is given to them by the caretakers and the managers. Spacious 3 bed sharing rooms are provided but no night canteen facility is available for the students of the first year. From the second year onwards, a different section is given for the hostels which aren't as good as the first year hostels but are a joy to live at as well from what I've heard. No first years are allowed to enter that part of the campus.

Admission

No. The selection is only on the basis of JEE mains merit list with quota for home state students, OBC-NCL students, SC/ST students and Persons with Disabilities.

Course Curriculum Overview:

My passion and a bit of curiosity in International Relations led me to choose this course. The curriculum, in fact, prepared me well for further academic pursuits. For improvement, educational excursions and internship opportunities should be made available. The exam is held twice a year on semester basis, with papers set at a moderate to difficult level.

The average package offered for such roles ranges between ?2–3 LPA, while the highest package offered to a BSc student is around ?4 LPA, depending on skills and specialization. Overall, around 15–20% of BSc students get placed through campus drives, and many students rely on off-campus opportunities.

There are limited on campus placement opportunities here, especially for Arts and Eng Hons students. Most students focus on higher studies, competitive exams or off campus opportunities after graduation. The college provides basic guidance through teachers but formal placement drives are rare.
