College life at NIT ROURKELA

To take admission in this college, the candidate must have passed or appeared on the board exam of +2 in the science stream. And they have to qualify for JEE MAINS to get admission to this college. The application form for JEE MAIN is available on nta website, generally, the application starts at the end of December month. Application fees for General, OBC male candidates is 1000 and for SC, ST, PwD, and female candidates fee is 500. To qualify for JEE MAINS, cutoff marks for the General category is 90, OBC is 65, SC is 50, ST is 45 and for the PwD category, it is 10 percentile respectively.

I am interested in the field of material science, so that's why I have chosen this course since the course is Metallurgical and materials engineering, It will give the benefits of going into both the field of material science as well as metallurgy. In our batch, a total of 85 students are there and a total of 20 faculty members making it a faculty: students ratio of 1:5 . Most of the professor in our branch is PhD holders from various famous universities such as IISC, IITs, etc. And they teach in a detailed way and especially they are inclined towards the practical procedure. In a semester, the mid-sem and end-sem exams are held over a period of one and half months respectively and to pass the exam you have to always attend the class, then it will be very easy to pass the exam with a good grade.

Most of the companies give decent stipends for internships. Companies such as Oracle, Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, The internship stipend ranges from 50-60k per month. Also core companies such as Tata Steel, and Vedanta, also give decent stipends for internships. The internship stipend ranges from 20-30k per month. You can also work as an intern in many IITs, IISc, and central laboratories, and work under projects going on in the college as intern.

From the 7th semester, the students become eligible for campus placement. Near about 1200 companies visited the college this year and near about 2000 offers were made this year. Companies like Oracle, Qualcomm, Intel, Microsoft, Amazon, etc ., and analytics companies like Fractal, Delloite, FirstFuture, etc. And also core companies like Tata Steel, Vedanta, Jindal, JSW, etc. came to college for placement this year.

Fees for a General category and OBC category is 1lakh per semester and for the EWS category, it is 60k. For SC, ST, and PwD candidates, it is 40k per semester. The fees per semester include both tuition as well as hostel fees. There are many scholarships available in the college such as govt. Scholarships like NSP, SSP, and also there are many PSUs giving scholarships to the students. The NITRAA, the alumni society of NIT Rourkela is also giving scholarships like FFE to students, in which the students are provided 40k per year. Also, many paid internships are given by many companies to college students with a good stipend of Rupees 10-20k per month. After the internship, most of the students got a PPO offer of 15-20lakh per annum.

There are many fest and cultural events organised in this college. Innovation is tech fest of this college and it is a famous tech fest among all the NITs.Innovision is conducted in the month of October. Likewise, Cosmo, the culture fest of NITR is conducted in the month of January. And Nitrutsav , the annual fest of NITR conducted in the month of April. And in other time also, some fest of many clubs are organised in this college . There is a big central library called as Biju Pattnaik Central Library in which more than 2000 books are there and near about 1000journals are there. The Library has centralised AC system and also a reading room is there where many students can study. The classrooms are equipped with centralised AC and the classrooms are very big in size.
