Course Curriculum Overview
I chose B. Tech in Mechanical engeering because engineering develops your analytical skills and makes you more innovative. Mechanical engineering is easier to visualise and you can feel its applications in your daily life. There are various domains within mechanical engineering where you can work like: manufacturing, energy modelling, aerodynamics, heat transfer, etc. The faculty student ratio is around 1:70 which I think should be made better. The teachers are well qualified but I feel that teaching methodology and curriculum should be revised to meet latest industry standards and secondly more practical work should be included. So, the teaching method is on the weaker side but some faculty members are really good and they will teach you by their best efforts. The exams are held timely and are moderate in level. So, you can pass them easily if you are regularly attending the classes and start revising just 2 weeks before the exams.
Internships Opportunities
Reputed compnies like Microsoft, Google, expedia, etc. to visit the campus for interships. Mostly the role offered is of software development.they provide good stipends and many a times some students are also offered PPOs after the completion of the internship. The students get involved in various types of work spanning over Data science, ML/AI, C++/java+C, CFD, etc.
Placement Experience
The placement season will start for you when you enter the 7th semester. Some students get PPOs from the companies they did their summer internhsip in. A lot of well-reputed companies visit the campus like Qualcomm, Microsoft, Bain, etc. The average package is somewhat around 15 lakh and the highest package goes above 50 lpa also. As per the profiles, the CTC vary accordingly- core engineering roles (6-15 lpa), non-tech roles (10-15 lpa) and coding/tech roles(10-50 lpa+). The placement statistics is good and above 80% students are placed every year. Some prefer to go for higher studies while some start thier own start-ups/support family businesses. Some others also go for competitive exams like UPSC, GATE, ARMY, etc. I plan to take a placement from the college and start working after the degree completion.
Fees and Financial Aid
The current fee is around 2.25 lakh per annum and it is increased every year by around 4-5%. Apart from it if you need to take the hostel the average cost of (hostel+mess) is around 1 lakh per annum. So, this sums up to around 3.25 lakh per annum. There are various scholarship and fee concession options available which you can take advantage of. You will get more information about these by approaching the UG Academic window in the college. You may also look for central government schemes at the National Scholarships Portal. A lot of students also start earning by giving tuition to school students of nearby regions in the evening while some start working in internships. This helps them get a stipend.
Campus Life
Campus life is a nice experience. The most well-known fest of DTU is Engifest. This fest invites top-class guests like Nucleya, S.unidhi Chauhan, etc. and college students from all over Delhi to join this massive fest. Apart from this, there is a literature fest named 'Yuvaan', and then there is an annual teach fest named 'Innova'. The campus will offer you a lot of activities to indulge in like social service, anchoring, dancing, music, etc. There are also societies based on coding, AL/ML, and consulting that can help you develop your career profile. If you are interested in core profiles you can join tech teams like Defianz DTU- which makes racing cars. There are issues with amenities in some classrooms like lack of proper cooling systems and educational aids like projectors, speakers and lab machines. This is where the college can improve I think. The sports facilities are decent with a football ground, cricket pitch and net practice, gym, basketball court, lawn tennis court, etc.
Admission
The admission is based on the JEE Mains rank. One can apply for admission to this college on JAC Delhi's website. JAC Delhi is the Joint admission Committee for five universitir/colleges in Delhi- NSUT, DTU, DSEU, IITD and IGDTUW. The commencement of online application and choice filling usually starts in the month of May every year and you can apply on its website. Seats are allotted on the basis of rank and preference list in a series of rounds. Once you are provided with a seat and you accept the seat, you will be called for document verification (physical reporting) at the university. The eligibility criteria may slightly vary in different academic years but it's advised to thoroughly go through the eligibility criteria on JAC's website in the year you are taking admission to avoid any issues later. Also, you will find the counselling schedule on JAC's website only that will help you track the timeline.
