Likes

Less time consuming as we don't have to travel.
Course curriculum at par with any offline degree at any IIT.
Flexibility of choosing different subjects as per our convenience.

Dislikes

No regular exposure of campus in this degree.
As the degree is online there is no physical meet with friends.
Because of large number of students less focus on quality placements. Although we can find jobs off campus.

Course Curriculum Overview

It is at par with any prestigious offline college degree. Everything they start from the scratch and reach up to the higher level which ends up having crystal clear knowledge and understanding to everyone irrespective of their previous stream in class 12th.

Internships Opportunities

Our degree is divided into certain levels. Foundation, Diploma & Degree. So after successful completion of the diploma level you can start applying for the internships. IIT M provide you the opportunity and based on your performance in interviews you can grab a good internship.

Fees and Financial Aid

Compared to other private colleges it's very affordable. Also there are a lot of scholarship based on the parents income available. For <1lakh, one will get 75% scholarship. And the main add on to this degree is you will be having a lot of free time available so you can do some internships, enhace your skills and at the same time you will end up paying your college fees by your own.

Campus Life

As it is an online degree so we don't have any campus life as such but there is an annual fest conducted every year at IIT Madras campus where we can go, meet our peers and get a chance to participate in many events organized by the student affairs team. Also there are a lot of societies and clubs in this degree which conduct regular sessions with esteemed guests + organize different events to participate.

Admission

Acc to new education policy IIT Madras is stepping forward to make quality education in everyone's reach at a low cost and from the comfort of your home. If you are preparing for some other exams side by side then this degree is the perfect choice for you. I would like to add it's a proper IIT M degree which is accepted everywhere. And at last only skills matter so you can also do this stand alone. Thanks!

There are many courses including post graduation.
Faculties are well expertise and has good mentorship quality
The fees are affordable to pay for the course I have selected

Dislikes

Need to improve the infrastructure of the college
Crowded canteen it would be better if we have one more
There is some hygienic issues in the washrooms could be better if it is hygiene

THE IDEAL COLLEGE LIFE!

Likes

The opportunities to meet new people and interact with a whole new circle of people by Club Activities as there are quite a lot of clubs according to the student's interest.
Many places to showcase our singing and dancing talent once we join the club or take part in any of the department events.
They have multiple labs for a single department so that the students get a lot of hands on training for coding and as well as hardware.

Dislikes

4:3 Ratio of Girls to Boys in my class and i hope it's the same for all the departments as well.
The college timing can go from 8:30 AM to 5:10PM.
The 75% attendance is kind of doable and maintainable to an extent.

Placement Experience:

about 70 to 80 percent of the students get placed afdter the colleg and the ones not placed also gets placed after the college with high network and communication from other contacts within the college, ZOHO Corp does take placements and i am preparing for my CAT exams as i am planning for My highers at IIM, 5th semester is when the students become eligible for the campus placements and the seniors are a good connection who help to get places and get a job after the completion of degree.

Hostel , mess food and mess hall , no facilities for marine practical

Teaching methods of marine faculties are excellent but in my course they add some additional subject like tamil and hindi which are useless and no neede for a mariner as the marine faculties are good in teaching and explaining but they also having difficulty in teaching as the requirements didn't meet from the college management

Is IITM BS degree in Data Science worth

Students have to give an entrance exam conducted by IITM itself, the fee for which is 3000 INR(1,500 INR for SC/ST) but JEE students who have qualified for JEE Advanced don't need to give the exam but have to register for the program by paying the same fee. Students from any background can avail for this Degree if they have English and Maths as the main subject in 10th class, there is no age barrier as well. After the registration you will be enrolled in program and they will provide you 4 weeks of content, the exam will come from these content only. There is no cutoff for this exam but you have to score minimum 40% in qualifier exam to continue program(35% for OBC/EWS and 30% for SC/ST). The registraion opens three times a year i.e.November,June and August the time may vary a little bit....Read More
