Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

I was not particularly interested in any engineering course as such i took chemical engineering at Nit Calicut to gain exposure for my MBA. Faculty : student ratio is something i am not sure about as of now. Some faculty are exceptionally good at teacjing the course material whereas some are very bad . There are two semesters in a year. In each semester there are two main exams midsem and endsems. Endsems are usually harder than midsems due to the size of the syllabus and the level of the questions. It can be fairly difficult to pass if one does not put enough effort into academics

Internships Opportunities

2

As im in first year i dont have much knowledge of internships as of now , however there have been offers from Japan for internships . Companies such as deloitte, exxon mobil also hire interns . Whether stipend is given or not depends on the company

Placement Experience

3

Students become eligible for placements from 7th semester. Various companies visit the college for chemical engineering such as Exxon Mobil, ONGC, Hindustan Uniliver limited in the core sector , whereas companies like Capegemini, Deloitte , Oracle hire from non core sector .Maximum offers made were 70 for 2022. The average package is 9.9 lpa and the highest package was offered by Oracle for 2023 which was around 30 lpa. 86% of students got placed .I plan to go for MS in a foreign university or MBA in IIM.

Fees and Financial Aid

Financial assistance is given to those who have a financially backward background . Income certificate needs to be provided as proof for availing financial assistance in the form of fee reduction. The cost to study for a year is usually 1,13,456 ruppees in tuition fee and approx 85,000 ruppees in hostel and mess fee. For Chemical engineering branch companies from both core and non core sector come for hiring . In the 4th year companies like Exxon Mobil, Reliance , Ongc , Bpcl, Hindustan Uniliver hire in the core sector whereas consultancy companies like deloitte and software companies like Oracle, Capegemini hire in the non core sector

Campus Life

4

Annualy two fests are held :Ragam and Tathva . Ragam is the cultural fest and Tathva is the technical fest. The time of the year at which these fests occur is not fixed .Books on core subjects from Chemical engineering, Mechanical engineering and almost every other engineering branch are available in the library. The resources of the library are vast. The library also has a digital library which has 24/7 air conditioning. The classrooms are also well equipped with a green chalkboard and a projector screen with a projector. The classroom for first year are spacious with ample amount of fans and lighting. There are various teams for various sports such as handball, hockey, Tabke Tennis ,cricket. To get selected one has to go through trials . Coaches have been hired for the various sports by the institute.Once or twice a year teams will participate in inter Nits with other Nits.

Hostel Facilities

1.5

There are four people sharing a room in first year. There are four beds but you have to buy your own matress . Although four people are sharing a room , there are only three cupboards provided for one room. Quality of meal depends on the mess contractor for a particular mess . For first years the mess contractors are pathetic . The quality of food is disgusting. A lot of the times chicken is completely uncooked , flies and insects are found in the food various times . The Mess contractors have a handsome budget of 25 lakhs per month yet they cut down on quality to earn as much profit as possible.the cleanliness of the toilets is average at best.

Admission

Nit Calicut selects students on the basis of jee mains results. The minimum percentile required to get admission into chemical engineering brach was 97 . Jee mains application form is found on official jee mains website . Fee for application is 1500 for general candidates

Placement Experience:

Upon reaching s7 students are invited for campus placement but they have to pass different criteria to become eligible for attending the interview, a minimum cgpa of 7.5 and academic skills a these are the basic requirements and an aptitude test will be given and in further selection these criteria are looked. I plan on pursuing a job after completing by btech. More than half the students in a batch are getting placed usually.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose this course because the curriculum covers key subjects like Python, Machine Learning, Data Science, and Deep Learning right from the early semesters. The inclusion of electives such as IoT, Cloud Computing, and NLP made it future-relevant and versatile.
