Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The course is primarily aimed at research in the pure sciences. Faculty to student ratio is healthy and the faculty is highly qualified, most of them post doctorates from reputed universities in India and abroad. Teaching methodology is mostly engaging and is supportive. Exams are usual with varying levels of difficulty. The system is autonomous and course content is entirely decided by the instructor.

Class Size: 250Course Fees: INR 100000 per year

Internships Opportunities

A variety of internships are possible from IISERs One can easily avail internships as a part of NIUS, DAAD and MITACS Due to proximity to CSIR-NCL, TIFR-NCRA and IUCAA students can easily attend workshops and work under professors in these universities IISER students regularly take part in internships in IITs, IISc and other reputed universities in India and abroad

Placement Experience

2.5

Campus placements although do exist, since it is a research organisation, most students aim for a higher degree and aim to get into top research institutes in the country and abroad. There is an entrepreneurship cell that helps in entrepreneurial activities in campus. After the degree I plan to apply for a PhD project at a reputed university that would help me propel my research career in the subject of my liking

Fees and Financial Aid

Fees structure is lenient. Mess fees is not taken, instead mess works like a canteen based coupon system. A student enrolled in IISERs is eligible to avail the INSPIRE scholarship. Moreover other scholarship options are made available by the administration for meritous students those satisfy the eligibility criteria.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

There are three separate hostels. One for BS-MS boys, BS-MS girls and MSc+int PhD students respectively. The hostels in BS-MS are double shared and have access to drinking water, 24 hour electricity supply, elevators and toilets. Each room has adequate lighting with 24 hour high speed LAN connection. A brief view into IISER Pune

Likes

High productive discussions are encouraged. The classrooms are well maintained
The labs are well maintained and provides as much time as needed
The mess provides very good food and is quite subsidised

Dislikes

The fee is rising for junior batches which might not be affordable

Placement Experience:

Our college encourages diversification but due to the primary aim being research, most people go for a career in academia but placements are also provided in major companies but the percentage of students going for this choice is low.

IISER PUNE REVIEW

Likes

The college provides flexibility of choosing your own subject of interest or specialization.
It is a highly affordable college with fees much lower than other government colleges as well
There are no restrictions on in timings of hostel on campus.

Dislikes

The college does force you to study subjects like HSS, ECS where they teach sanskrit and earth sciences in first sem which might not be very useful in the future.

Placement Experience:

Students are eligible for sitting for summer internship programmes of iiser pune. Not many software companies visit this college for placements as most of the students of this college sit for higher studies for their PhDs or publish research articles. However a student who wishes to get a job in corporate can get an online course of computer science done and apply for off campus placements as the IISER PUNE tag value along with good skills are more than enough for you to get a high paying job.

IISER Pune at a glance

Likes

Sports facilities are very good and easy to access.

Dislikes

There is nothing in this college to be disliked

Course Curriculum Overview:

Course contents are good but could be too lengthy for some as the semester is only of 4 months which is not sufficient for such large course contents. The grading is relative which gives fairness to everyone.

Great professors, Ta’s , opportunities for internships and placements

Dislikes

Maintaince of the sports facilities can be better
Mess food experience is not too bad not too good
Can show more enthusiasm towards sports activities like IISM which is a tournament

Course Curriculum Overview:

The courses which are offered are very up to date and give and actual conceptual understanding of the topics the courses are such that it is relevant to the real world applicantions and program our mind in thinking in a research and analytical perspective. I think the current course curriculum is enough and really good no need to improve further. Frequency of exams are 2 months Midsems and endsems and quizzes in Between then.

The Brand of IIT Bombay

Likes

The lecture halls are equipped with modern technology, high speed internet connectivity and charging sockets on each desk.
The canteens as well as restaurants inside the campus are quite affordable for college students.
The library is very well maintained and spacious. It's air conditioned and contains all the resources you'll ever need.

Dislikes

Many washrooms in the hostels have still not been renovated.
Official work is quite slow and time consuming. Also the planning of events is not efficient and many times the activities clash with each other.

Placement Experience:

Placement opportunities at IIT Bombay are very good. But getting a high paying job depends on an individual - how skilled and qualified they become after 4 years. If you lay focus on academics and build your personality with all the resources and networks you have IIT Bombay, you'll definitely land at a very good place in your life. There are also startups and business opportunities. Entrepreneurship is encouraged by the departments.

ALL ABOUT IISER PUNE

Likes

Most liked thing that there is no ragging in college and all senior are just like big brother and sister, this thing i so loved. Also there is very much greenery in campus which look very nice mainly in rainy season.
All the professor are very brilliant and help student time to time for internship till last date and explain all the phenomenon and clear doubt by simply taking a appointment.
Campus is very nice and hostel are very well ventilated and about food i like it because there is some hotel like feeling that you pay at that time and eat. You have not to pay it along sem fee also eat what you want like veg , non veg etc.

Dislikes

The Thing i don't like is the distance of college from pune city is about 10 km which is makes us very deductive for going us to the main pune city. So we go only 2 to 3 time in a month to pune city.

Placement Experience:

As there was placement in the year 2021 which is nearly 56 percent. Around 20 companies visited campus like TCS, AKASH, CIPLA etc. for placement. But most of student do not like placement becuase they have their plan about research so they do phd and post doc in their career which they think best according to their opinion. But in 2021 the avg. package was 8 lpa and each participant have 2 offer. Also the highest package is 13 lpa, which is very nice as compare. but the main reson is research that's why placement is not so higher.

IISER PUNE REVIEW

Since my childhood I have always had a very keen interest in the world of science and it was my dream to become a research Scientist. This college is the best suited college for fulfiling this purpose of mine. I had appeared for JEE exam and had got accepted into many colleges but I never wanted to follow the rat race of engineering so this was the college I opted for. For taking admission in this college you need to give the IAT entrance exam. If you qualify this examination you will be able to get admission in one of the most top research colleges of India namely- IISC banglore, IISER Pune, Bhopal, Mohali, TVM, Tirupati(in priority order)....Read More

I would have applied to IISC but I missed the application period for the college which I wasn't aware. ALL ABOUT IISER PUNE

For admission you have to give an exam IAT for doing BSMS which is compulsory for all iiser. And I like it because there is some other way by which we can go into a tier 1 college by other exam not by jee or neet like things. The application mainly start in april and form available till end of april. you have to fill it on the IAT site and the exam has fee nearly 2000 rupees. Also there is same reservation pattern as in the central govt. exams, so it is not a big issue. The cutoff for iiser pune is nearly 120 out 240 marks as i gave the exam last year. It vary year to year. The cutoff is different for different iiser. Also IISER PUNE selects only 270 student of the total qualified number which nearly about 5k. So I can say there is huge competition here. The exam is moderate for the admission and exam is available for all over india not in particular area like wbjee....Read More
