Likes
- University has a central library which is the USP of this university. The library remains occupied all the time. Library culture is great here.
- Since it is one of the biggest University in state so it is culturally diverse. You come across different cultures of different districts of Himachal Pradesh. Cultural events happens through out the session.
- Being a government University the fees is very nominal and if you got a hostel here then your monthly charges will be very few. Also being in Shimla the university has the best environment and great climate except in monsoon.
Dislikes
- Courses are still old traditional ones. They are unfit to provide jobs for students.
- University has a poor management of exams. Conducting exam after 3month of semester.
- Irregularities in results sometimes. Late results may pise some difficulty
Course Curriculum Overview
I personally dont find curriculum effective. No relevance with day to day life. We are just fighting with theorems everyday without even knowing their application and teachers are also not delivering them with the application part. Curriculum should be more practical and applied. Teaching methods are also traditional chalk and talk method .... Every classroom is equipped with smartboard but they are just showpiece no one is using them.
Fees and Financial Aid
Fees is quite nominal for Government seats that is 6680 rupees for boys per year. And around 30000 for paid seat. All NSP schloarships are available apart from that University have its own schloarships
Campus Life
Every department has their own annual fest . University is culturally well sound ... Fest keeps on happening through out the session. Sports meet, youth festival, tournament every thing . Every district has its student association inthe University which organize their cultural fest time to time
Admission
Bachelors in science with 50% maths being compulsory subject in three years of graduation. You can find the application form online on the official website of University under admission section. Application fees would be around 800.seats are reserved as per the government reservation rules
Faculty
Faculty is well qualified no doubt. But since its a govt University and professors are quite aged so the seems to be tried of persuing their jobs. They dont seems to put efforts now. Otherwise they are good, friendly and approachable.
