Course Curriculum Overview

4

The ULC, GU being one of the premier law colleges in the North Ease of India, I chose this college because of the course structure which prepares students to make a law career for themselves along with the faculty from various esteemed colleges of India which includes the likes of University of Goa, Government Law College, Gauhati etc. The college helps students seek internships with various legal professsionals which prepares the students not only accademically but also the face the practical legal world after college. The courese need no specific improvement but the availibility of a placement cell would had been a great addition to thish college. The exams are conducted half yearly which rigorously tests the students legal knowledge in every aspect.

Internships Opportunities

4

The college doesnt directly provide internship opportunity to students but in every semester by considering the attendence of the students during their time at internship, the students has opportunity to intern Judges of High Court and also Lawers and Law Chambers and the various Law Firms.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees of LLB students in University Law College(ULC), Gauhati University is paid annually which varies batch to batch but it ranges approximately from around ten thousand rupess to fifteen thousand rupess per year. For my batch, the first year fees costed Rs. 14,400 which was paid at the time of admission and included admission fee of Rs 1210, course fee Rs 5080, library fee Rs 1450 and other charges. The second year fees Costed Rupees 10,480 and Rs 15,000 for the third year. The fee in a particular year does not vary for different catgories.

Campus Life

4

The campus life in ULC is great. Anually the University conducts the Varsity Programme and also ULC conducts the Law Week annually which is a week of sports, music and culture. Along with it, ULC also hosts a law fest named Leguleian. The colleges also contains a music club, debate club, moot court society. The ULC also has its own Law Library and also since situated in the GU Campus has access to the GU Library which is the largest library in North East India. The GU campus also contains an outddor stadium and an Indoor Stadium and also a Gymnasium.

Admission

Before enrolling myself in ULC, GU it tried to get in to Facuty of Law, Delhi University but because of lack of preparation time as I decided to get myself into studying law very late, I could't clear that particular exam and then to seek for other options I found ULC which has a very rich history of a great alumni base including esteemed Jurists and Lawyers around the country. The admission process includes an examination of 100 marks coducted by Gauhati University which tests students knowledge in various aspects including General Knowlege, English, Mathematics, Logical Reasoning. The cut off for general category students ranges from around 20 to 30 based on the result of other students. I got through this exam scoring 56 with a rank of 5. The difficulty of the paper is easy and can be qualified with basic preparation.

Faculty

4

The college contains a great bunch of faculties which contains a 5 Associate Professors and 15 Teaching Associates making it a total of 20 Teachers. One thing in this college is that all the teachers are always available for the students even beyond working hours. During a semester, there are 2 sessional exams conducted the difficulty of which is moderate and also during the semster one has to present Seminar Papers for each respective paper and based on that paper there is also a viva test conducted. The difficulty of the viva test is again moderate. At the end of the semester, the final exams are conducted by the University for 80 marks with a passing mark of 36 making the paper a bit difficult.

Night Life

4

For the ULC Sudents there is the AT9 Boys hostel and for girls the RCC 5 and the AT 9 Hostel. The campus covering a wide are and lush green in nature the life in campus is very pleasing. The campus also contains the GU Stadium both indoor and outdoor and also a great Gym. Also there are many cafeterias in the campus and there is also a GU market. The campus being situaed in Jalukbari, Guwahati there is easy access to every kind of facilities in the city which also includes a great night life with cafes, malls and places to hangout all around.

Remarks:

It is human tendency that we always look for something better, but in NLUJA things seem to be growing at the right pace. Instead of looking for a better management, I think the students' participation and enthusiasm must be encouraged. A college/university is only what the students make it, and it cannot grow until and unless the students take an initiative.

Remarks:

I was a part of this college for 5 years and I know this college well. This college should have an auditorium for conducting seminars and there should be College week so that the students can take part in various competitions. Moreover the library has insufficient books and most of them are outdated as new editions of those books are available in market. There are very limited books. Library doesn't have Manupatra, SSC online etc.and the computers are outdated. The administration is average they fail to respond well at times. The best thing about this college is that it secures 1st position in University results.
