Very good college with the right environment if you want to pursue BSc and focus on exams like JAM, JEST, TIFR GS. Good quality coaching available in the town for these exams.
Course Curriculum Overview
The courses offered here follow the newly setup CBCS structure by UGC. Every single detail can be found on the UGC website. Each semester students have to appear in three exams, End Semester exam followed by two internal assessment.
Placement Experience
It is College for Science, Arts and Commerce. So placements will not be that good compared to engineering colleges. In Midnapore College there is a placement cell setup for benefits of students. Most of the students here pursue higher studies and don't opt for a job after BSc or BA or BCom. But few banks and small companies offer placement. From the point of view of a college for general studies, placement after ug studies are very good.
College Events
Freshers Ceremony, Annual Cultural Fest (folk), Numerous Lecture events, Annual Sports Competition, There are many other events celebrated. Everything can be found on the College website.
Fee Structure And Facilities
No, the fee structure isn't expensive at all. Students here will have to pay about Rs 4000 per semester (excluding hostel facilities) It is very very cheaper than most colleges.
Fees and Financial Aid
Students studying Bsc with more than 6.5 GPA can apply for Inspire scholarship ( Rs 60k per year) provided by DST. There are scholarship for economically poor students provided by the college. There are no loan facilities though.
Campus Life
Arts department are good at extracurricular activities like singing, folk dancing. Debate competitions are held annually. Students can join sport teams if they want.Most students are focused on studies. College also doesn't promote extracurricular activities that much.
Alumni/Alumna
The senior students are very helpful. Some guide us often at practical labs. But students who have already graduated are hard to reach to. Although there's is a alumni association. It is very passive.
Admission
I passed my HS exams with 94 percent marks from the WBCHSE board. Then students have to apply for the courses on the College website. College will publish a merit list based on the higher secondary marks. First 70 students are selected after a counselling process.
Faculty
It is one of the best colleges to study physics and chemistry. The UG faculty here is better than most colleges. Although the PG department is not that good. Faculty members are hard working. They will finish the course no matter what. The curriculum is always completed.
