MBChB Medicine remains the most competitive undergraduate route with the smallest international intake.

University of Glasgow Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027

Glasgow University publishes distinct academic and English-language thresholds for Indian postgraduate and undergraduate applicants on its India country page. Meeting the numeric floors below is the baseline, not a guarantee of an offer.

Postgraduate taught (PG):

  • Bachelor’s degree with 55% to 63% or CGPA 5.5 to 6.3 out of 10 from a recognised Indian institution (UK 2:1 equivalent). Lower thresholds of 50% to 58% apply to programmes accepting a UK 2:2.
  • English test minimum: IELTS 6.5 with no band below 6.0, or TOEFL iBT 79 to 96 (0-120 legacy scale) depending on programme. Verify the exact score on each programme’s English language requirements page.
  • Credential verification through WES or UK ENIC for degree recognition; SOP, two academic references and updated CV; GMAT required for the MBA at Adam Smith Business School.

Undergraduate (UG):

  • Class 12 with 75% to 85% from CBSE, ISC or State Boards; MBChB Medicine requires 90% or above plus UCAT.
  • English test: IELTS 6.5 (no band below 6.0) or TOEFL iBT 79 to 96.
  • UCAS application with personal statement and one academic reference; subject-specific prerequisites for engineering and sciences.

Key insight: Indian applicants whose Class 12 medium of instruction was English can apply for an IELTS waiver by submitting a school letter confirming English-medium study; the waiver is granted per programme and is not automatic across the university.

University of Glasgow Acceptance Rate 2027

Glasgow University’s overall acceptance rate is 70% (estimated), reflecting a moderately competitive institution across its undergraduate intake. The rate is a university-wide average and does not reflect programme-level selectivity, which is much tighter in flagship courses.

MBChB Medicine, LLB Law, MSc Finance and MSc Data Science operate structured shortlisting and admit a far smaller share of applicants than the university-wide figure suggests. Undergraduate humanities and social sciences typically sit closer to the 70% band.

Reality check: Indian applicants targeting Adam Smith Business School masters programmes should treat the effective acceptance rate as 25% to 40% for their cohort; strong quantitative marks, GMAT (where required) and early application matter more than the headline institution-wide rate.

University of Glasgow Campus, Facilities and Student Life

The University of Glasgow operates three campuses: Gilmorehill in the West End (main), Garscube in northern Glasgow (veterinary and life sciences), and Dumfries in south-west Scotland. Gilmorehill houses most Indian students and sits alongside the West End’s Byres Road and Ashton Lane social district.

  • Location and transport: Gilmorehill is 15 minutes from central Glasgow by the Subway (Hillhead station); Glasgow Airport is 25 minutes by taxi
  • Housing: university accommodation is guaranteed for first-year international students, with monthly rent bands of GBP 700 to 900
  • Facilities: the Sir Duncan Rice-designed University Library holds 2.5 million volumes; Wolfson Medical School and the Advanced Research Centre host laboratory facilities
  • Indian community: the Glasgow University Indian Society hosts Diwali, Republic Day and Holi events, and the wider Glasgow Indian diaspora supports strong food, faith and cultural networks

What Indian students say: the West End is walkable and student-friendly, weather takes a term to adjust to, and grocery costs at Lidl or Asda are meaningfully cheaper than the corner Sainsbury’s; joining the Indian Society in Freshers’ Week is the fastest route to a social circle.

University of Glasgow Scholarships 2027

Glasgow University runs an international scholarship pool worth over GBP 15 million per year, with two named awards directly targeting Indian postgraduate applicants for 2027 entry.

Scholarship Type Award value Eligibility one-liner Deadline
India Excellence Award Tuition fee waiver GBP 12,500
(INR 16.1 lakh)
Indian nationals starting a one-year PG taught masters in any discipline; up to 10 awards Verify on official page
World Changers Glasgow Scholarship Tuition fee discount GBP 5,000
(INR 6.5 lakh)
Automatically awarded to eligible Indian applicants for September 2026 or January 2027 entry No separate application
GREAT Scholarships Tuition fee award GBP 10,000
(INR 12.9 lakh)
Indian nationals on selected PG masters programmes; funded jointly by the British Council Verify on official page

[Source: gla.ac.uk scholarship pages, 2026-27 cycle.]

Planning note: the India Excellence Award and GREAT Scholarships are tied to a firm offer; Indian applicants who receive their offer late in the cycle often miss the scholarship window even though academic eligibility is met, so a January-February 2027 offer is the pragmatic target date.

Key insight: Glasgow’s stable top-100 position across QS, THE and US News matters for Indian applicants because it meets the ranking cut-off used by leading Indian public-sector employers, most education loan providers, and destination country PR-point systems including Canada Express Entry education recognition.

University of Glasgow Placements and Career Outcomes 2027

Glasgow University reports strong graduate career outcomes for its taught masters cohorts, with the highest concentrations of Indian graduates entering finance, technology, healthcare and public policy across UK and India-linked employers.

  • Median PG starting salary: GBP 27,000 to 32,000 per year (INR 34.8 to 41.3 lakh, market median)
  • MBA median post-MBA salary: GBP 55,000 to 65,000 (INR 71.0 to 83.9 lakh, market median for Adam Smith Business School)
  • Careers support: Glasgow Careers offers one-to-one advising, employer events and CV clinics tailored to international students
  • Top sectors: banking and financial services, technology consulting, healthcare and life sciences, government and policy (labeled sectors, not disclosed employer list)
  • Post-study work: UK Graduate Route visa allows a two-year post-study stay after masters graduation, with PhD graduates eligible for three years

Insider note: Indian graduates in Adam Smith Business School finance masters most often place with London-based investment banks and Big Four advisory firms; MSc Computing Science and Data Science graduates cluster with technology employers in London, Edinburgh and Manchester, with a smaller cohort returning to India-based analytics teams.

University of Glasgow vs Peer Universities

Indian applicants typically weigh Glasgow against other Russell Group universities in Scotland and northern England at a similar QS band and fee point.

University QS World Rank 2026 Avg Annual PG Fee (GBP) Avg Annual PG Fee (INR lakh) Differentiator
University of Glasgow #79 33,000 to 40,500 42.6 to 52.2 lakh Ranked #1 globally for Nursing; strongest Adam Smith Business School finance suite
University of Edinburgh #27 35,000 to 45,000  45.2 to 58.1 lakh  Higher QS position; Edinburgh location premium and tighter admissions
University of Manchester #34 30,000 to 38,000  38.7 to 49.0 lakh  Larger Indian community; strong industry ties in northwest England
University of Leeds #82 28,000 to 35,000  36.1 to 45.2 lakh  Similar rank; lower-cost city; broader taught business portfolio
University of Birmingham #80 28,000 to 34,000  36.1 to 43.9 lakh  Same QS band; Midlands location with strong engineering placements

Glasgow stands out for two reasons for Indian applicants: the Adam Smith Business School’s concentrated finance and investment-banking portfolio, and Scotland’s lower cost-of-living envelope compared with London-adjacent peers at similar QS ranks.

The University of Glasgow suits Indian students with strong quantitative bachelors seeking a Russell Group masters at a moderate cost of study, especially in finance, computing, medicine and public health. Total investment of INR 60 to 76 lakh against a median PG starting package of INR 34.8 to 41.3 lakh gives a two to three year payback for graduates who secure UK Graduate Route roles; the Graduate Route visa extends that window meaningfully.

Glasgow is a weaker fit for applicants targeting elite London banking desks or PhD-heavy research careers who could realistically clear Oxford, Cambridge, LSE or Imperial; the University of Edinburgh remains a stronger option for candidates who value a top-30 QS brand and can absorb the Edinburgh cost premium.

FAQs

Ques. Which postgraduate programmes at University of Glasgow are taught fully in English?

Ans. All 303 postgraduate taught programmes at Glasgow are delivered in English, including MSc, MRes, MLitt, MBA, LLM and MEd routes. There are no local-language requirements for the primary September or January intakes. Some programmes require additional academic English support in the first term, and the university runs pre-sessional English courses for applicants who narrowly miss the standard IELTS 6.5 threshold.

Ques. How long does the UK Graduate Route visa last for Glasgow graduates?

Ans. The UK Graduate Route allows Glasgow masters graduates a two-year post-study stay in the UK to work, look for work or start a business without employer sponsorship. PhD graduates receive three years. The visa is applied for from inside the UK after course completion, costs around GBP 880 in application fees plus the Immigration Health Surcharge, and does not lead directly to permanent residency.

Ques. Can Indian students work part-time while studying at University of Glasgow?

Ans. Yes. Indian students on a UK Student visa can work up to 20 hours per week during term time and full-time during official vacation periods. On-campus roles include library assistants, student ambassadors and research support; off-campus retail and hospitality pay the UK minimum wage of GBP 12.21 per hour (2026 rate for those 21 and over). Placement or internship credit-bearing modules follow different work rules.

Ques. Does Glasgow University waive IELTS for English-medium Indian bachelors?

Ans. Glasgow University may waive IELTS for Indian applicants whose Class 12 and bachelor’s degrees were fully taught and assessed in English at a recognised institution. The waiver is granted per programme, not university-wide, and requires an official letter from the school and university confirming English-medium instruction. Programmes in the Adam Smith Business School and School of Law more frequently require IELTS regardless.

Ques. What is the application fee for University of Glasgow postgraduate applications?

Ans. Most Glasgow postgraduate taught applications have no application fee. Exceptions apply for the MBA at Adam Smith Business School and selected professional programmes, which charge GBP 25 to GBP 50. Undergraduate applications go through UCAS at the standard UCAS fee (GBP 28.50 for one course, GBP 28.50 for multiple in the 2026-27 cycle). No refunds are made once an application is submitted.

Ques. Which Indian education loan lenders recognise University of Glasgow?

Ans. All major Indian public-sector banks (SBI, Bank of Baroda, Punjab National Bank), private lenders (HDFC Credila, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank) and NBFC specialists (Avanse, Auxilo, InCred, Prodigy Finance and MPOWER) fund University of Glasgow admits. The university’s Russell Group membership and top-100 QS ranking qualify it for premium loan slabs above INR 20 lakh, typically with lower interest rates and collateral-free options up to INR 40 lakh.

Ques. How do Indian applicants get transcripts verified for Glasgow admission?

Ans. Glasgow accepts direct transcripts issued and sealed by the Indian university’s controller of examinations. For non-standard qualifications or older degrees, applicants may be asked for a WES or UK ENIC statement of comparability. Transcripts are uploaded to the online application portal at submission; certified physical copies are only required at enrolment. Apostille certification through the Ministry of External Affairs is not needed for admission.

Ques. Are conditional offers common for Indian applicants to Glasgow University?

Ans. Yes, conditional offers are the norm for Indian applicants who apply before final results are declared. Common conditions include achieving the required bachelor’s percentage, submitting a pending IELTS or TOEFL score, and providing final consolidated mark sheets. Applicants have until the CAS deadline (typically late July 2027 for September entry) to meet all conditions and convert to an unconditional offer before visa processing begins.

Campus Life

  • Gilmorehill campus, Dumfries campus, and Garscube campus.
  • Each campus has all the required facilities, such as a library, gym, sports hub, and medical services.
  • There are many festivals happening all around the year. The freshers' events are really wonderful.
  • There are several clubs and societies one can join but I am not the best person to answer, as I did not join any. I, however, did join as a student ambassador for Unibuddy and they have yearly socials which are quite fun.

Fees

  • Tuition: 23000 GBP (Can be paid in whole for the year or in instalments)
  • Accommodation is not included and is paid separately. I paid 450 pcm for rent and electricity. I budgeted around 100-150 for food, which includes eating out. I got the yearly bus pass for 400 GBP but they have scrapped it now so you get the 4-week pass for 67 GBP instead.
  • I live quite frugally so my expenses were not too high. These expenses vary greatly depending on the student's lifestyle.

  • The university has one of the most beautiful and historic campuses in the UK—often described as having a “Harry Potter-like” charm. It is the fourth oldest university in the English-speaking world. The campus infrastructure is impressive, with four student unions and numerous clubs that organise regular events, including career fairs, cultural activities, and networking sessions.
  • The library is one of the largest in Europe around 10 floors and approximately 2.5 million books and Research facilities are excellent, supporting a wide range of academic fields. university also offers great sports facilities through UofG Sport, for students to stay active and engaged beyond academics.

Fees

  • The total tuition fee for my programme was approximately £29,000. fees vary depending on the year and specific course structure.

  • There is one main campus which is spread across one neighbourhood, with different buildings for each department. They are all within walking distance.
  • There is a huge library with books and plenty of online resources. There are multiple reading rooms across the entire campus.
  • There are many cafes and lunch spots to serve the needs of students.
  • There are sports options and classes as well.

Fees

  • Tuition fees for my course were £24,000 per year.
  • I took a private hostel, which was £650 a month. University accommodations which were cheaper could have been better maintained. Good ones were more expensive. There are lots of options for private hostels as well.
  • Average living cost was 250-300£ per month.
  • There are multiple options for payment frequency. I paid it in one single instalment because i had my loan approved. They can be paid in up to 8 instalments.

  • My university has 3 campuses: Gilmorehill, Garscube and Dumfries. While Gilmorehill is the main campus.
  • The facilities available in the Gilmorehill campus consist of 4 reading spaces: the James McCune Smith hub, the Fraser building, and the McMillan reading room, as well as the 13-floored university library with over 2 million+ books. There are medical facilities available in the Fraser building, while there are 2 major clubs like Glasgow University Union (GUU) and Queen Margaret Union (QMU), along with GUSA, which involves facilities related to sports within the campus.
  • There are several campus events held within the university every month, along with the welcome week, Halloween, Diwali, and Christmas. While there are over 300+ clubs, and one can easily be a part of those groups.
  • Sorry, but I couldn't manage to explore the extracurricular part of my campus precisely due to my packed academic schedule. There are around 300+ clubs and each club has their own set of events and extracurricular activities during the entire year. For an Indian, the GuDesi club is very important as they conduct several Indian cultural events.

Fees

  • My tuition fees for the entire academic year are £31860, out of which I received a scholarship of £5000. So, my total tuition fees is £26860 for the entire year. And my hostel charges for the entire year are around £8400, while it depends majorly on the kind of room, location, and facilities.
  • My fee payment type is a manual payment plan and my entire fee structure is divided into 8 installments, with each installment to be paid by the start of each month until the month of May. While there are several other methods available for paying the fees, like direct debit plans, bank transfers, and card transfers, it depends on each respective type.
  • My monthly rent costs around £700, while my regular expenses cost around £250. To break down, my monthly transportation expense costs around £70, and my expenses on groceries cost around £130. The rest of the cost is mostly the other kind of expenses like clothing, entertainment, etc.

  • The life in University is very much happening .You will find a lot going on daily to daily basis.

  • Students are allowed to take up both on-campus and off-campus part-time jobs. On-campus jobs include Teaching Assistant- TA, Research Assistant- RA, Departmental Assistant-DA, library assistants, administrative staff, campus café assistants. TA/RA/DA pay scale is around £12-15/hour, while other jobs may pay £10-12/hour in campus jobs. Students can work for a maximum of 20 hours per week during the term time in the UK.

  • On-campus jobs are competitive, with limited positions, and students need to be on the lookout for job postings, apply early, and sometimes attend interviews.

  • Most Indian students prefer off-campus jobs in retail, supermarkets, restaurants, or delivery services as these roles are relatively easier to find and offer similar pay (£10-12 per hour) depending on the job type and location. It normally starts with an online search via portals such as Indeed, followed by the submission of resumes and potential interviews.

Fees

  • The fees for my course is £31860. I got a scholarship for £5k for India Merit Award. The accommodation that i chose is separate from the Uni fees and it is £6k . These are based on the type of accommodation you choose.

  • So , you have options of paying it in one go or in 8 installments plan. I am paying it in 8 installments monthly plan. Dates are set by the university on portal.

  • If you exclude the accommodation fees , then i spend around 150-200 on my groceries and rest 150£ on other expenses. It basically depends on your lifestyle.

Overview

Well, I wanted to change my field of work and experience an international educational system. So, I applied for this course as it seemed very fascinating to me to do a master's in 3 different countries. I got a fully funded scholarship as well. My overall experience has been very enriching as I get to travel, study with people from diverse backgrounds, and experience different cultures and academic environments. My tuition fee, living cost, health insurance and airfare were all covered except my visa application fee. So, it was not that stressful financially for me to pursue this degree which I understand is very expensive if you are going to do it self-funded. Universities like the University of Glasgow are very reputed in the top 100 ranking for their quality of education, research and other things. Overall, my experience was good but definitely very challenging and stressful at times as well as I have been moving to a new country every semester which means finding a place to stay, visa applications settling in a new place and constant planning of travel, academic stuff and other things. It was challenging no doubt but very much worth to be experienced.

Campus Life

No doubt, Campus Infrastructures are very good. As I studied at three universities, all three universities has good library particularly Maynooth and Glasgow university . They have sports clubs and other clubs, cultural events keep happening. You need to find your interest area but there is something for everybody.
