University of Hertfordshire Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027

The University of Hertfordshire accepts a range of Indian qualifications for direct entry, with English-language proof and a bachelor’s grade minimum as the two universal filters.

PG Requirements

  • Academic: Bachelor’s degree with 55% or CGPA 5.5/10 for most programmes (recommended); MBA requires 3 years of professional work experience.
  • English: IELTS 6.5 overall with 5.5 in each component; PTE Academic 59; TOEFL iBT 88; verify at the official English language requirements page.
  • Documents: Statement of purpose, two references (academic or professional), transcripts and degree certificate.
  • Additional (MBA only): CV showing 3 years post-graduation work experience.

UG Requirements

  • Academic: Class 12 with 65% to 80% depending on programme (CBSE/ISC/state boards accepted); engineering programmes require Maths and Physics at 60% each (recommended).
  • English: IELTS 6.0 overall with 5.5 in each component; PTE Academic 55; Class 12 English at 70% may exempt.

Key insight: Indian applicants with Class 12 English at 70% or above from CBSE, ISC or major state boards can request an IELTS waiver at the University of Hertfordshire, subject to programme discretion.

University of Hertfordshire Acceptance Rate 2027

The University of Hertfordshire has an estimated acceptance rate of 70% (estimated) for international applicants. The university does not publish an official rate; the figure is derived from third-party admission data and reflects the institution’s practice-oriented, access-focused positioning.

Postgraduate cybersecurity and data science programmes see stronger competition and lower effective acceptance because seats are capped by cohort size. MBA admits are limited by classroom capacity and typically close earlier in each cycle.

Reality check: A 70% band means most academically eligible Indian applicants receive offers, but late-cycle applications to MSc Cybersecurity and MBA face waitlists because these programmes fill 3 to 4 months before start.

Total 1-year investment of INR 44 to 49 lakh against a median UK starting salary of INR 34.44 lakh delivers a 2 to 3 year payback under the Graduate Route, with the UK Graduate visa unlocking direct work rights after graduation.

Applicants targeting Russell Group brand recognition or heavier research funding are better served by Manchester, Warwick or Southampton. Coventry University serves as a comparable modern-university alternative with a higher QS position and broader Indian student network.

University of Hertfordshire FAQs

Ques. Is GRE or GMAT required for admission to the University of Hertfordshire?

Ans. The University of Hertfordshire does not require GRE for MSc programmes and does not require GMAT for its MBA. Admission decisions rest on bachelor’s academic record, English-language proof and, for the MBA, three years of professional work experience. Indian applicants can save the exam prep time and instead strengthen their statement of purpose and reference letters, which carry more weight in decisions.

Ques. Can Indian students work part-time during studies at Hertfordshire?

Ans. Yes. UK Student visa holders enrolled in a full-time degree at the University of Hertfordshire can work up to 20 hours per week during term and full-time during official vacations. Common student roles include campus positions, retail in nearby Welwyn Garden City and internships coordinated through the university Careers Service. Wages start near the UK minimum of GBP 11.44 per hour for adults aged 21 and above.

Ques. Does the University of Hertfordshire accept 15-year education from India?

Ans. Yes for most postgraduate programmes. The University of Hertfordshire accepts a 3-year Indian bachelor’s degree from a UGC-recognised university as sufficient for direct MSc and MA entry. The MBA and select engineering conversion programmes may prefer a 4-year bachelor’s or an additional PG diploma. Indian applicants should confirm the exact requirement on the specific programme page before applying.

Ques. What are the English language requirements for Indian applicants?

Ans. The University of Hertfordshire accepts IELTS 6.5 overall with 5.5 in each component for most PG programmes and IELTS 6.0 for UG programmes. PTE Academic 59 and TOEFL iBT 88 are equivalent alternatives. Indian applicants with Class 12 English at 70% or above from CBSE, ISC or major state boards can apply for an IELTS waiver, subject to programme approval and interview.

Ques. Which Indian banks offer education loans for Hertfordshire?

Ans. The University of Hertfordshire is recognised by all major Indian public-sector banks (SBI, Bank of Baroda, Union Bank) and private lenders including HDFC Credila, Avanse, Auxilo and Prodigy Finance. Public-sector loans up to INR 20 lakh usually require collateral, while non-banking lenders offer collateral-free loans up to INR 50 lakh for STEM PG programmes based on offer letter and co-applicant income.

Ques. Does the University of Hertfordshire offer airport pickup for Indian students?

Ans. Yes. The University of Hertfordshire runs a free airport meet-and-greet service from London Heathrow and London Stansted during the September and January intake weeks. Indian students must register at least 10 days before arrival through the international student portal. Outside these dates, students can take the direct National Express coach from Heathrow to Hatfield, priced around GBP 25 (INR 3,075).

Ques. What is the application fee for Indian applicants?

Ans. The University of Hertfordshire charges no application fee for direct international applications submitted through the university online portal. Applications routed via UCAS for undergraduate programmes carry the standard UCAS fee of GBP 28.50 for a single choice or GBP 28.50 for multiple choices in the 2026-27 cycle. There is no PG application fee for any Indian applicant.

Ques. Can dependents accompany Indian students on the visa?

Ans. Since January 2024, UK visa rules restrict dependent visas to students on postgraduate research programmes (PhD, MRes) or on government-sponsored courses lasting over 6 months. Indian students on taught MSc, MA or MBA at the University of Hertfordshire cannot bring spouses or children on dependent visas. PhD applicants must show additional financial proof of GBP 845 per month per dependent for up to 9 months.

Campus Life

  • Campus life here is definitely more active than I expected. There’s usually something going on – cultural nights, international food events, tech talks, that sort of thing. I went to a Diwali event last semester and it was genuinely fun, seeing so many people from different countries come together for it.
  • I joined a tech and coding club early on, mostly just to see what it was like, and I’ve stayed with it since. It’s been a good way to meet people outside my course and work on side projects without any pressure. There are also sports clubs and other interest groups if tech isn’t your thing.
  • The career fairs are worth attending too.  I went to one last term and actually had a proper conversation with a recruiter from a data consultancy, which I wasn’t expecting. Even if you don’t land anything immediately, it’s useful practice and you pick up on what companies are actually looking for.

Fees

  • The pricing schedule is broken down each semester. The cost of tuition is higher for international students than for domestic ones. In addition to tuition, there are fees for lab facilities, student services, and health insurance.
  • The average annual cost of tuition is high, therefore careful budgeting is crucial. However, it is manageable because the university offers choices for installments and clear payment deadlines.

  • The campus life is just so much fun. They have got this body formed called UH RES LIFE; they look after each and every student's needs and requirements. All the events and engagement activities are arranged by them, and they are very well organized. You can directly email them about any concern you have during your stay at the campus and they revert and resolve the thing within 24 hours of reporting.

  • My university has 2 campuses which are in the same location. There is a bus running between them every 10-15 mins.My university has a library on both campuses and has a cafeteria.
  • There are sports facilities like football, tennis , badminton, hockey and much more. There is an onsite gym facility along with snookers and much more indoor games.

Fees

  • The fee is 16500£. I got a 1000£ scholarship that includes the tuition, exam and any other expenses related to study.
  • For living it costs me 450-475£ per month for rent. Extra expenses include 100£ for travel, 100£ groceries, 50£ takeaways, 50£ bills. In total it costs me around 750-800£ monthly for my extra expenses, it might go higher and lower as well.
  • For my tuition fee, the university suggested paying it in 3 installments.

  • My university has 2 campuses one is college lane and other is de Havilland campus, both are massive campuses there will be soo many buildings.
  • Both campuses have dedicated library, sport facilities, medical services, restaurants, stores and major events are freshers events and lot of Indian clubs, lot of sports events , there are different sports events.

Fees

  • The full fee for me is 18950 gbp included for placement year, in that I got 2000 gbp as discount(scholarship) so I need to pay 16950 in this fee 5000 gbp is already paid before CAS so we need to pay 11950.
  • If you pay fully at once you’ll get 1000 gbp as discount so you’ll be paying 10950, or you can in 2 times which are 65% in once and 100% after 5 months.
  • If you live in Luton with 500 gbp you can pass a month and if you live in Hatfield it will be 700 - 800 gbp

  • As I am not a party guy nor a sport player but I do know that there are basically 2 Campus are there to whom I am familiar with, and both are in Hatfield. One is on College Lane and another is De Havilland.
  • College Lane is most use for Science Students, for example, doc, engineer, arts and many more meanwhile, de Havilland for Business and Law. Both includes a big library section, CASE(Centre for Academic Skill Enhancement), a reception, sports ground, gym and many more.

Fees

  • Starting - 65% and ending 35%, as I am just paying only my Tuition Fees because I am living here with my relatives. In the University of Hertfordshire, we have to pay fees on a Yearly base.
  • If I talk about a monthly expenses it take around £700 with including all the expenses. As I do not have any type of bad habits like cigarettes, drinking alcohol and clubbing or parties. So this saves my lots of money, which I can utilise for future.

Overview

Firstly! I applied for admission considering the specialized program and location of the University. I got admission without any delay. Alongside the University offered an early deposit tuition fee discount. I have wasted no time and paid my initial deposit. I proceeded further to the next steps, every step was smooth, to be honest. My overall experience at the university so far has been somewhat elevated compared to my previous experiences in the UG. I have chosen to apply to this university for different reasons. Firstly the advanced learning, depth of research techniques and industry-oriented training. The knowledge and skills needed to pursue a successful career are the main factor in this process. I could share more thoughts on my experiences when I am graduating next year.

Life on campus is active, and friendly, and offers lots of opportunities. The university has good facilities like learning resource centres, many activities outside of class, and focuses on both learning and research. This helps me to grow personally and professionally. The wide campus provides what students need to do well in their academics. To be honest the facilities are really comfortable and easy to understand and available across the campus.

Overview

I searched about this university online before joining the university, and most people gave positive feedback about Hertfordshire University and that my course has a good scope in this university. So, that's why I chose this university. My overall experience is good.

Definitely, I enjoyed a lot in the university with friends and interacting with new people, it gives new experiences. For my studies, I always go to the library and I spend there at least 5-6 hours per day.
