An Indian MSc applicant paying GBP 25,140 in tuition could pay GBP 15,140 (INR 19.40 Lakhs) after the India PG Scholarship. If eligible for the GBP 6,000 LUMS Master’s Excellence Award, the remaining tuition could fall to GBP 9,140 (INR 11.71 Lakhs). However, LUMS allows only one departmental master’s award at a time, so applicants should check eligibility and compare award values before deciding.

Reddit Insight: Indian postgraduate applicants report that Lancaster’s India Scholarship appears as a tuition fee discount on the CAS letter, rather than a cash payment to the student. Applicants should factor the reduced tuition fee into their education loan calculations and financial planning.

India-Specific Scholarships at Lancaster University

Lancaster University offers two scholarships exclusively for Indian passport holders. Both are applied as tuition fee reductions and are awarded automatically to eligible students, with no separate essay or additional transcript upload required.

Scholarship Amount Level How It Works
Lancaster University India Scholarship - Undergraduate £3,000 (INR 3.84 Lakhs) per year, up to £9,000 across a 3-year degree UG (all Bailrigg courses) Awarded on meeting offer conditions or accepting an unconditional offer; cannot be deferred
Lancaster University India Scholarship - Postgraduate £10,000 (INR 12.81 Lakhs) one-time PG taught (MA, MSc, MBA, LLM, EMBA) Applied to the tuition invoice; excludes MSc by Research and any online programme

Every Indian applicant who accepts an offer for a full-time on-campus course at Bailrigg qualifies automatically. No minimum GPA is published beyond the standard 2:1 UG degree for the PG version. UG applicants only need to meet the standard offer.

Two combining rules matter for Indian students:

  • The India PG Scholarship pairs only with the Alumni Loyalty Scholarship, lifting total tuition relief to £11,000+ (INR 14.09 Lakhs+).
  • The India UG Scholarship pairs with the Excellence Scholarship or the Study Centre Progression Scholarship. It cannot combine with any regional or departmental award.
  • Neither version stacks with Chevening or Commonwealth funding, since UK government awards already cover full tuition.

Reddit Insight: Several Indian LUMS applicants report on Reddit that Lancaster confirms the India PG Scholarship inside the offer email itself. If it is missing when you pay the deposit, email admissions before accepting.

Indian scholars receive the same monthly stipend as UK peers, approximately GBP 1,898 (INR 2.43 Lakhs).

Applicants should apply for the PhD position first and indicate the studentship they wish to be considered for. Some departments use a joint application deadline, while others accept applications on a rolling basis with a firm funding deadline in early February.

Indian applicants can instead explore Chevening for full funding and Inlaks or JN Tata for supplementary financial support.

The Chevening application process runs over several months, with interviews typically scheduled around March 2027 and final confirmation expected by June 2027 for successful candidates. Students targeting the LUMS MBA should apply for Chevening alongside their university application. The GBP 22,000 tuition cap covers the discounted MBA fee after deducting the LUMS Excellence Award.

FAQs

Ques. What is the highest scholarship an Indian student can stack at Lancaster University?

Ans. An Indian MBA applicant can stack the LUMS MBA Excellence Scholarship (50% tuition, approx £21,500 / INR 27.55 Lakhs) with the Alumni Loyalty Scholarship (10%). That reaches a total tuition discount of about £25,800 (INR 33.06 Lakhs). At taught master’s level, the India Postgraduate Scholarship at £10,000 (INR 12.81 Lakhs) plus Alumni Loyalty tops out at £11,000+ (INR 14.09 Lakhs+). Fully-funded coverage requires Chevening on top of a Lancaster offer, since the India Scholarship cannot combine with UK government awards.

Ques. When do I need to apply for the India Scholarship at Lancaster University?

Ans. There is no separate scholarship application. You apply through the standard UCAS route for UG or Lancaster’s postgraduate portal for master’s. The university then identifies eligible Indian nationals automatically. For a September 2027 start, submit your degree application by tentative April 30, 2027 and meet offer conditions by tentative July 31, 2027. Confirmation of the scholarship arrives inside your offer email or in a follow-up from the admissions office within 4 weeks.

Ques. What is the eligibility bar for the India Scholarship - Postgraduate at Lancaster University?

Ans. You need a 1st or 2:1 undergraduate degree, translated as 60%+ in most Indian universities or a 6.5+ CGPA on a 10-point scale. You must hold an Indian passport or permanent residency in India. The course must be a full-time taught master’s (MA, MSc, MBA, LLM, or EMBA) delivered on the Bailrigg campus. MSc by Research and any online delivery are excluded.

Ques. Does the Lancaster India Scholarship cover living costs in Lancaster?

Ans. No, the India Scholarship is a tuition fee reduction only. Rent at Lancaster runs approx £150 to £180 per week in university halls. Budget £7,800 to £9,360 (INR 9.99 to 11.99 Lakhs) per year for accommodation alone. Food, transport, and utilities add another £3,000 to £4,000 (INR 3.84 to 5.13 Lakhs) per year. UK visa rules require Indian students to show £1,023 per month for 9 months (£9,207 / INR 11.80 Lakhs) as maintenance funds.

Scholarship

  • I was awarded a Lancaster Management School Master’s Scholarship of £3,000 for entry in October 2025.
  • As mentioned earlier university automatically awards you these scholarships based on students application and profile. Many of my batchmates received many other scholarships as well. All students who apply early with a strong academic background are eligible for scholarships.

  • The university has its own accommodation facility. If you choose to stay inside the university, you have to email the university regarding the same; if not, u can stay outside as well.
  • 776 pounds monthly rent for my accommodation and it includes 24/7 wifi, heater, electricity, water, attached bathroom, studying table & chair, wardrobe, notice board, kitchen (shared), balcony (shared), dining table (shared), fridge (shared), oven (shared), microwave (shared), Iron & ironing pad (shared), Vacuum cleaner (shared), Kettel (shared) etc.

Scholarship

  • I received a scholarship called the Lancaster Global scholarship.
  • Each student in our batch/class received the same scholarship and of the same amount.
  • The award amount was a standard 8500 pounds flat.
  • Each Indian student receives this scholarship. Only one student received a 16000 pounds LUMS MBA Scholarship; otherwise, the amount is standard across students.

  • My accommodation was also found by my agent; he suggested I should apply to the accommodation provided by the university.
  • There were no challenges, as my agent filled all the forms required to submit an application for student housing at the campus in the university.
  • Yes, I will only recommend student accommodation provided by the university inside the campus, as it's the most beautiful campus, self-sufficient, self-reliant, affordable (as compared to other housing), and more social. Events were hosted here, there were social hubs to socialise, bars to hang out, and restaurants to eat. and so many things under one area.
  • Accommodation is on the campus. Most students stay on the university campus. About 90%.

  • Yeah, I did and there are some more which i was not aware of initially. Mine was general but there are some like fulgoni and paul simmons
  • 5000 pounds
  • Yes, scholarships are only like 5000 or 13300
  • Many of them do, depending on the marks you received and some more demands different type of criteria like activity and marks from past or some type of job experience

  • On-campus accommodation, but online websites can help for off-campus accommodation
  • In UK the major concept is off-week price so the rent in uni for an en suite is 190 and for sharing its 135 off campus idk but you have option of studio and many more
  • Live on campus; it's very safe, very connecting and a great community, 5 minutes walk to campus.

Scholarship

  • Yes, as mentioned earlier, I received a scholarship.
  • Name: Lancaster Global Scholarship of £8,500. I had not applied for the scholarship; this was received based on the interview with Robyn Remke as mentioned previously. So eligibility is the interview only.
  • Award amount - 8500 pounds
  • Yes, other batchmates (almost everyone) received the same scholarship. There was limited financial aid available. You need to show the proof of those; I didn't apply for any financial aid, nor did any of my batchmates.
  • As mentioned, almost every person received an 8500 pounds scholarship. This was default. I had 70 people in my class.

  • It was hostel on campus (provided by the university).
  • 600 pounds per month for 1 room (Attached bathroom)
  • No challenges; the university allots the accommodation. Just be early to fill in the form.
  • Yes, always take university accommodation. Saves a lot of time and money. And better for socialising.
  • The accommodation was on the campus. It is very close to where all the classes are held. So it makes it easier for everyone to commute on time.

Scholarship

  • I received a scholarship for 5000 GBP called the Lancaster Global Scholarship - Master's. Some of my friends got up to 9000 GBP based on UG results. There are many other scholarships available, like the Management School Master's Scholarship, which are all clearly listed on the university page and program page. Application to it is very straightforward if you meet the eligibility criteria. The actual amount depends on the criteria required.

  • I used the agency called MSL; they were really good. I had no complaints. There are a lot of other student agencies in Lancaster. If you prefer campus life, student accommodation on campus is decent. But I preferred city accommodation. All bills are usually included in the rent and the deposit is refunded once you move out. Accommodation in the city is 20 minutes away from the University.

  • Yes, I received the Excellence Scholarship. The eligibility criteria is ambiguous but I'm assuming it is a function of the quality of your SOP and your background.
  • Award Amount was £12000, which was the highest for that year.
  • Most of my batchmates received scholarships with an average of around £7,000. I would say about 30% of the class receives an average scholarship of £7,000.

  • I used the college website to find my accommodation.
  • Monthly rent is about £700/month.
  • I did not find any challenges, as the university accommodation process was simple. All students who get an admit get a link to book their accommodations so it was quite easy to do. I would recommend staying on campus.
  • The on-campus accommodation was about 10 minutes away from my classroom.

  • The competition is fierce and the companies are not willing to sponsor visas. If you have a PSW, you are most likely to secure a job in 6 months, but getting your employer to sponsor you is a bigger challenge.
  • The average salary that students land is around 35k pounds. There are various job portals and recruiting agents that help you find jobs.

  • There are scholarships available, I hadn't applied for any. I have very little to no idea on it, other than the fact it was available.
  • I have no idea on the eligibility criteria or the amount that would be sanctioned. The details about this as well are available on the uni website.
  • Yes there were multiple of my classmates who had received scholarships.I have no clue exact total.

  • University portal provides some options for both on campus and external accommodations. I chose on campus accommodation.
  • Within campus accommodation there are lot of options. I had taken a superior ensuite room for which the rent was around 177 GBP per week.
  • I didn't face any challenges, there are plenty of options and you are also provided an option to list any special requirements.
  • It was 10-15mins walk away.

  • No, I did not receive any scholarships for my studies.
  • As far as my knowledge goes some of my batchmates did have a scholarship. And the amount they received differs for each person. Based on the nature of scholarship one person had a full scholarship and another one person had a partial amount.
  • One guy received 10000 GBP per term. And mostly some of the people had their companies sponsor them for this course.

  • The accommodation I found was the campus accommodation. I chose it on the University website itself as I did not look for other accommodation as it was located far from the university.
  • I chose a standard accommodation and it cost around 410 GBP per month. In that we were given individual rooms with shared bathroom and a common kitchen for 6 people.
  • There were other accommodation options with private bathrooms as well with its appropriate price.
  • As it was a University accommodation it was located inside the campus itself.

  • None of my bath mate receive any scholarships

  • University accommodation is best here which is convenient as well.1000 gbp approximately 1 lakh inr.
  • Yes I recommend using university accommodation in campus as they offer security and other services and also have porters office for emergency contact or needs. It was in the campus itself where if i go downstairs the lecture halls were 2 mins walk.
  • The only challenge is that it is expensive then what u will get outside of campus but it is vert convenient to stay on campus and save time for studies.
