University of Bedfordshire offers 12 scholarships, of which 9 are accessible to Indian applicants in 2026-27. The stack layers Bedfordshire’s automatic tuition discounts with UK government routes like Chevening, GREAT and Commonwealth. Luton and Bedford sit outside the London fee band, so a modest waiver cuts the final invoice materially for Indian families.

  • Standard 2026-27 PGT tuition (per year): £14,500 (INR 18.58 Lakhs)
  • With Postgraduate Global Merit Scholarship (auto waiver): £11,500 (INR 14.74 Lakhs) per year
  • With Global Subject-Specific Merit plus Vice-Chancellor combo: £8,500 (INR 10.89 Lakhs) per year
  • Nearest scholarship deadline for Indian applicants: Chevening 2026-27 closes on 7 October 2026, 16:30 IST

Currency Note: All INR conversions use the live rate of 1 GBP = INR 128.17 as of August 2026. "Full tuition" means the funder pays your fee directly to Bedfordshire. "Tuition discount" means the amount is deducted from your invoice before you settle it.

University of Bedfordshire Scholarships for UG Students

Bachelor’s funding at University of Bedfordshire runs on auto-awarded tuition discounts tied to your admission decision. Most UK government schemes fund Master’s study only, so UG applicants lean on institutional support and pathway-level awards.

Prompt Payment Discount (PG taught / research) £500 to £1,000
(INR 64,085 to 1.28 Lakhs)

International Scholarship for Indians (auto tuition discount) Up to £2,400 (INR 3.08 Lakhs) tuition discount Indian nationals classified as international fee-payers on eligible UG or PGT courses Rolling with offer
GREAT Scholarships (India) £10,000 (INR 12.82 Lakhs) tuition discount Indian nationals on selected Master’s courses; funded jointly by the British Council and Bedfordshire Tentative late April 2027 (annual cycle)

University of Bedfordshire PhD Scholarships

Doctoral funding for Indian applicants at Bedfordshire flows through three channels. The first is the Commonwealth PhD Scholarship (external, competitive), the second is Bedfordshire’s own doctoral studentships (project-linked, faculty-advertised), and the third is the self-funded route with the alumni waiver where applicable.

Scholarship Coverage Eligibility for Indians Deadline (IST)
Commonwealth PhD Scholarship (CSC UK) Full tuition, monthly stipend, return airfare, thesis grant and arrival allowance Indian nationals with an Upper 2:1 bachelor’s plus a Master’s; nominated through DHE India via the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission Tentative mid-December 2026, 21:30 IST
Bedfordshire Doctoral Studentships (faculty-funded) Fee waiver plus stipend on funded research projects; value varies by faculty and grant Applicants who match an open PhD project advert on the Research Graduate School page; competitive against UK and international candidates Rolling; project-specific windows
Alumni Scholarship (PhD route) 20% fee reduction on PhD tuition Indian nationals who completed a Bedfordshire bachelor’s or Master’s and progress to a PhD; applied automatically Rolling with PhD offer
Prompt Payment Discount (research) £1,000 (INR 1.28 Lakhs) Any PhD candidate settling full annual tuition before registration Rolling with each intake

PhD candidates aiming for the Commonwealth award should lock in a Bedfordshire supervisor letter of support before the DHE India window opens. Faculty studentships are project-specific and you cannot bring your own topic. Self-funded PhDs pair cleanly with the alumni waiver when the candidate already holds a Bedfordshire Master’s.

External Government Scholarships for University of Bedfordshire Applicants

External UK government schemes are where an Indian applicant moves a Bedfordshire offer from partially funded to fully funded. All four below are open to Indian nationals and pay funds directly to the university or into the student’s UK account.

Scholarship Coverage Eligibility for Indians Deadline (IST)
Chevening Scholarship (UK FCDO) Full PGT tuition, monthly living stipend, return economy flights, UK visa fee and arrival allowance (roughly INR 38 Lakhs total value) Indian nationals with a bachelor’s degree and 2 or more years of work experience; must apply to three UK universities and hold one unconditional offer 7 October 2026, 16:30 IST confirmed for 2026-27 cycle
Commonwealth Master’s Scholarship (CSC UK) Full PGT tuition, stipend, return airfare and arrival allowance Indian nationals nominated through DHE India on Bedfordshire’s eligible development-linked Master’s courses Tentative mid-December 2026, 21:30 IST
Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Full PGT tuition, stipend, return flights and thesis grant Indian nationals from lower and middle-income backgrounds on the university’s eligible Shared list courses Tentative mid-December 2026, 21:30 IST
British Council IELTS Award Up to £10,000 (INR 12.82 Lakhs) tuition contribution Indian nationals holding a high IELTS score and confirmed offer at any UK university including Bedfordshire Tentative May 2027 (annual cycle)

Reddit Insight: Indian nominees on r/IndianStudentsUK report that Bedfordshire’s Commonwealth Master’s slots are narrow and typically tied to health, education and social justice courses each cycle. Winning proposals name a specific Indian problem such as a state hospital scheme or a district NGO instead of a generic career plan.

Chevening remains the widest external route because it is course-agnostic. Any Bedfordshire full-time one-year Master’s qualifies once the applicant secures an unconditional offer. The two Commonwealth routes are narrower because eligibility rotates through specific development-linked courses each cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions

Ques. What is the maximum scholarship funding an Indian student can get at University of Bedfordshire?

Ans. The maximum single package is Chevening’s fully-funded route, worth roughly INR 38 Lakhs per year. It covers full PGT tuition of £14,500, a monthly UK living stipend, return economy flights and one-off arrival costs. The next rung down is the GREAT Scholarships India award at £10,000 (INR 12.82 Lakhs), which pairs with Bedfordshire’s own £5,000 Subject-Specific Merit on eligible Master’s courses.

Ques. When should Indian students apply for scholarships at University of Bedfordshire?

Ans. Apply between August 2026 and May 2027, depending on the scheme. Chevening 2026-27 closes 7 October 2026 at 16:30 IST; Commonwealth Master’s and Shared close tentative mid-December 2026 at 21:30 IST. GREAT India closes tentative late April 2027; Inlaks tentative early April 2027; JN Tata tentative late March 2027. Bedfordshire’s own auto discounts trigger the moment your offer is issued.

Ques. Does an Indian applicant need a separate form for the High Achievers UG Scholarship (India)?

Ans. No. The India High Achievers award is calculated by the admissions team from your Year-12 result and printed on the offer letter. There is no separate application form. It only applies to first-year Level-4 UG entry, so Indian students joining directly into Level-5 or Level-6 through credit transfer are not eligible for this specific award.

Ques. What academic score qualifies an Indian for the Postgraduate Global Merit Scholarship?

Ans. Bedfordshire assesses the whole profile including bachelor’s percentage, IELTS score and course fit. Indian applicants meeting the standard bar of 55% to 65% at bachelor level with IELTS 6.0 qualify for the £3,000 Global Merit tier. Profiles carrying 70% or higher with IELTS 6.5 on a shortlisted subject usually move up to the £5,000 Global Subject-Specific Merit tier.

Ques. How competitive is the GREAT Scholarships India route at University of Bedfordshire?

Ans. GREAT India slots at Bedfordshire are limited to a small annual pool across selected Master’s courses in Business, Computing and Health. Indian applicants apply through a dedicated form on the university’s India page. Competitive nominees hold a first-class Indian bachelor’s, IELTS 6.5 or higher and a statement tying the Bedfordshire Master’s to a measurable career outcome back in India.

Ques. Does a University of Bedfordshire scholarship cover living costs in Luton?

Ans. Only Chevening and the two Commonwealth routes cover living costs. Chevening pays a monthly stipend broadly aligned with the UKVI outside-London figure of £1,023 (INR 1.31 Lakhs). Bedfordshire’s own Global Merit and India High Achievers awards are tuition-only, so a self-funded student should still budget INR 10 to 13 Lakhs annually for Luton or Bedford living costs.

Scholarship

There is only one scholarship that you can avail which you can get only if you submit the entire annual fees in one go. For first year students, they give you a scholarship of 1000 pounds and for the rest of the academic years, you get scholarship of 500 pounds. If you don't submit the full fees in one time then you don't get any concession.

I chose this University because this is internationally recognised and award winning university with the heritage of quality of education going back more than 100 years. First you need to submit you IELTS score wiith a minimum score of 6 bands. Then they send you an offer letter within 1 or 2 weeks. After that, they will share the payment process and you have to submit the fees accordingly. I took classes from Aim Overseas to prepare for my interview exam.

Scholarship

There was a scholarship criterion that included getting a certain percentage in the terms. The one with above 85% would get the scholarship. The scholarship was counted in the form of Pounds 500 every month.

I consulted Career Connection Consultancy which is located in Valsad. I took coaching from the consultancy itself for IELTS preparation and the Consultancy guided me right from the beginning till the end till I migrated to the United Kingdom. The accommodation was also arranged by the consultancy itself. The consultancy helped me make the right choice of selection for the course and university. After migrating to the UK there was a constant support from the consultancy so that we don't feel homesick in the new country away from the family.
