Kerala University Ph.D Geology: Fees 2026, Course Duration, Dates, Eligibility

Ans. Kerala University offers Ph.D. in Geology in both Full-Time and Part-Time modes. However, if you are employed, you cannot pursue Full-Time research unless you obtain Leave Without Allowance (LWA) from your employer. This makes the programme highly competitive. No. Candidates who have qualified CSIR-NET/JRF, UGC-NET (all three categories including Category 3 - Ph.D. only), GATE, SLET (Kerala), DST-INSPIRE, DBT-JRF, VSSC-JRF, UGC-MANF, UGC-NFSC, UGC-NFOBC, UGC-NFPwD, or KSCSTE fellowships are fully exempted from the Kerala University Ph.D. Entrance Test. You will be directly called for an interview by the Doctoral Committee of the Geology Department. Selection for such candidates is based entirely on the interview performance.

All Ph.D. scholars at Kerala University, regardless of mode (full-time or part-time), must complete a mandatory course work of one semester (6 months) with 14 credits within the first year of registration. However, Paper-II on Research and Publication Ethics is compulsory for all scholars without exception.

Once you convert to Part-Time mode, you will lose eligibility for all fellowships and scholarships (CSIR-JRF, UGC-JRF, DST-INSPIRE, etc.), as these are exclusively available to Full-Time scholars. It is advisable to carefully consider this decision before applying for conversion.
