Ques. How does the MGU-CAP allotment work and can a student change the college after the first allotment?
Ans. Candidates register at cap.mgu.ac.in, enter preferred colleges and courses in order, and the system allots seats across multiple rounds based on Plus Two index marks. After the first allotment, a candidate can hold the seat and wait for a better allotment in the next round, or accept the current seat. Once the final round closes and the candidate reports to the allotted college, changes are not permitted.
Ques. Which MGU B.Sc specializations are open to students without Biology in Plus Two?
Ans. Many specializations do not require Biology. Maths or CS stream students can apply for Computer Science, AI and Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, and Cyber Forensics. Commerce or Home Science stream students may opt for Hotel Management, Fashion Designing, Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics, and Home Science. Verify exact requirements in the official MGU-CAP notification before submitting preferences.
Ques. Is the 4-year Honours with Research exit available at all MGU-affiliated colleges?
Ans. No. The 4-year Honours with Research track (minimum 133 credits) is available only at affiliated colleges with adequate faculty and research infrastructure. Verify directly with the allotted college, as MGU-CAP does not differentiate between 3-year, 4-year Honours, and Honours with Research during preference entry.
Ques. How does the INSPIRE Scholarship application work for MGU B.Sc students?
Ans. INSPIRE is awarded by DST to students ranking in the top 1% of their board in natural or basic science at Plus Two. Apply via the INSPIRE portal (online.dst.gov.in) after confirming B.Sc admission. The INR 80,000 per year scholarship is disbursed annually subject to satisfactory academic progress. Applications open within a few months after admission each year.
Ques. What career paths are available after MGU B.Sc in non-traditional specializations?
Ans. Traditional streams like Chemistry and Physics lead to government service exams (Kerala PSC, UPSC) and laboratory roles.
