Ques. What is the average salary of an IIT Bombay CSE graduate?

● Top Answer By Abhilasha Garg on 19 Aug 20

Ans. The average salary package of a CSE graduate from IIT Bombay is around 20 lakh per annum. Notably, the CSE branch is among the highest recruited branch each year with 100 percent placement rate. Top recruiters who visited the campus included Goldman Sachs, IBM, Qualcomm, Tata Steel, EC Japan, Microsoft, Rubrik. Also reputed organizations like DRDO and ISRO visits the campus for recruiting students of CSE. The above-mentioned figures are Cost to Company (CTC) which indicates the total amount of expense the employer spends on the employee. The CTC includes signing bonuses, performance bonuses, etc. which inflates the actual figure. So, the basic pay is less than the CTC mentioned. The CTC offered to you can also include “other benefits” which include medical, periodicals, meal vouchers, and vehicle-related expenses. Also, the overall average CTC offered to a CSE graduate at IIT Bombay varies from company to company. However, the average salary (basic pay) offered by renowned companies recruiting students of CSE at IIT Bombay is around 18 LPA.  Read more

Ans. One of my friends studied at IIT Guwahati. According to him, choosing IIT Guwahati over IIT Bombay will be a better option. The demand for designers is increasing day by day. Companies today have a requirement for a great interface. Designers have a high scope in their future. Most of the students graduating from IIT Guwahati are inclined to a career in the field of Interaction Design. Ques. How was your experience at IIT Bombay during M.Tech?

● Top Answer By Shakhar Suri on 17 Feb 21

Ans. A friend of mine attended IIT Bombay for his MTech and had a good experience. The points listed below give a brief idea about the series of events that usually take place during the two years of M.Tech in the lives of students in IIT Bombay. The first day at IIT Bombay is a dream situation in which you will meet your professors and seniors. They organize an induction program for the fresher. The memorable journey starts here. The first year mostly consisted of course works. Along with the curriculum, students learn to manage things and enjoy to the fullest, even in that level of competition. There will be late-night marine drive visits, online gaming late-night canteen, etc for creating memories during the two years. At DC++, everything is available online for free. The techfest and MOODI happen at the end of the first semester and are literally a festival inside the campus for enjoying semester breaks. The second-year is marked with project works for students in M.Tech. Overall workload decreases in the second year and so, more enjoyment, sports, gym, cultural activities, etc. The course of project work is steady and slow-paced, which needs patience to excel. From July, the pre-placement training and preparations come into place. Though this does not affect the enjoyment as Bombay is a place worth exploring, the placement session from November to December is a little hectic. After being placed, students are free from any kind of pressure. Ph.D. aspirants don’t have placement pressure, so they are always free to do other stuff and activities. The seriousness of exam nights is mixed with enjoyment, in which there is no way one can regret to have chosen M.Tech. Friends from different regions and specialties provide a lot of exposure. The campus is vast and lush green. The hostel for second-year students is great. Almost every student expresses their stay at IIT Bombay to be irreplaceable and excellent. It becomes a lifelong journey, being in one of the best institutes to study in the country.Read more

Ques. Why do some students in IIT Bombay leave high-paying jobs and join grad schools for PhD?

● Top Answer By Kishalay Ghosh on 26 Feb 21

Ans. After completing graduation, many students of IIT get jobs in top companies too with good packages but some of them leave these high paying jobs and join grad schools for PhD. Working in these companies and earning six figures can be great but earning less than half of it while studying isn't bad too. As after completing your PhD, you will get a job with a higher salary but still, a person who has already worked for 6 years in a company will earn more than you. So people don't opt for Ph.D. just for a higher salary, there are other reasons too. Interest in Research Some people have a deep interest in research and want to know more in their field and they find it better than doing a regular 9 to 5 job.  They find it more exciting though it can be more hectic than doing a job. Student Life A life of a student is much better than an employed one as they can go for classes they like, work according to their time, and take a break whenever needed.  Many people want to stay like this and enjoy and learn at the same time. So they opt for a Ph.D. Thus, students willing to study and research more about a particular topic or subject, they go for a higher degree. For these students learning about the subject has a bigger priority than high-paying jobs. It depends completely upon the individual and their interests which makes them either go for a PhD or a high paying job.`Read more

Course Curriculum Overview :

I am admitted to the branch of environmental sciences and engineering mainly taking into consideration the futuristic importance of this branch given the rising interest in the conservation of our beloved environment. Our branch is a small branch off around 37 Students and around 12 main faculties which makes the faculty: student ratio around 1:3. All the faculty members are mostly PhD doctorates in their respective subjects and have an excellent teaching method. First, they deeply explain the concepts and clear all our doubts and then make us practice several good problems. The exams are quite timely and can be easily done if all the lectures were attended sincerely and problems were practiced. Overall they are quite scoring

Mtech admits at IITs are granted scholarship by MHRD- ?â_12400/month. The fee structure for Mtech course is pretty lean. No hefty amounts are charged. One can simply use their stipend in order to pay tuition fees.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Mtech at IIT Bombay is like building a bridge between btech and industry, it fixes up the missing part which a btech graduate lack. Since I have done my btech in polymer science and chemical technology, In order to be at par with industry standards and increase my knowledge i joined Mtech in chemical engineering. Faculty is world class, all of them are highly educated from reputed universities in the world. They are really experts in their respective fields. Most of them are reputed research fellows. The curriculum here at IIT Bombay is well laid. We have weekly quizzes and assignments. Mid term exams and end term exams have typically highest weightage. The college is very strict on discipline. As the motto says-knowledge is supreme, the exams are set in order to test real knowledge. The questions usually are tricky and require brain.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Electrical Engineering at IIT Bombay is in my opinion the most diverse course with curriculum greatly overlapping with computer science and also provides a lot of mathematical courses. Highly qualified faculty which can provide a remarkable research exposure at an undergraduate level is another positive. Meticulously designed courses and evaluation focus more on the application side and problem solving which I personally like.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

I am writing about the 1967-69 period. The monthly fee used to be INR 37.50 for the course and 27.50 for a hostel or a total of INR 60 per month. ALL PG students used to get a monthly scholarship of INR 250. The amount of scholarship covered tuition fees, hostel fees, mess expenses, and other miscellaneous expenses like movies and travel. Grand Old days!

Course Curriculum Overview :

The Course Curriculum: Two semesters of rigorous course work followed by one year of Project work. The course work was interactive & Intensive, with frequent class tests before the semester examination. Professors teaching the class were highly qualified and trained in imparting professional courses. The course had offered options to select Microwave Engineering or Electron Devices as an area of specialization. Had opted for Microwave Engineering as the telecom scene in India was growing. The campus placement was not in vogue during the late 60. However, I was able to get 2-3 job offers within 2 months of my leaving IIT-B. Besides, there was an option to enroll in a Ph.D. program. Apart from the high standard academics, I had learned a lot by participating in sports, cultural events, and raising funds to improve the facilities in the common room of Hostel 1.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Course Curriculum is generally a bit outdated but still much ahead than the rest of colleges in India. Academics is okay, I say this because the professors don't inspire you to take academics as something you love and they are rather more interested in their own research. But having said that, if you are determined enough to pursue it, it's like no place else. You get some of the best mentorship and facilities to work with.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

The fee structure is expensive with an average of 2.5 lakhs per annum but we have a few rebates for parents with net family income less than 5lpa. Also, we have an alumni association who provides an interest-free loan, just with a bond that after IIT, then have to contribute the same back to some other student.

Course Curriculum Overview :

My college's computer science department is really great. They are very flexible among all other Indian colleges and update the syllabus to make sure you get the latest knowledge and experience. The topics taught in our course make us good at programming and do a real coding project in our free time. In the summer, we have an internship program that gives us actual office and work experience and also research experience in foreign universities for the stipulated time if we choose it. Overall the curriculum tries the best to make us qualified computer science engineers ready to take on the upcoming challenges in the future. The curriculum is 2 semesters a year with assignments and tests spread evenly during the semester with the idea of continuous evaluation.
