Placement Experience:

The students are eligible for on-campus internships from the 3rd semester, and for placement from the 3rd year (that is the 5th sem). Many companies visit the campus every year. Companies like Microsoft, Amazon, Paytm, Goldman Sachs, and many more companies come to the campus and the students get nicely placed in these companies. The average package of computer engineering is near about 10-11 LPA, the highest offered package varies from 40-60 LPA based on student performances. Most of the students get placed (more then 95%).

Placement Experience:

Previous year records show that Thapar has a good placement record according to my knowledge. Companies like Amazon, Cisco, Xebia, Siemens, Samsung R&D, etc offer placements for last year students. Around 70-80% of students are placed on-campus or off-campus. The rest of the students usually go for master's or prepare for some competitive exams. My plan is to get a good placement offer.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I have an interest in computer science and engineering so I choose this course. The facility student ratio is 1:15 and faculties all are PhD qualified and the teaching method is through the projector. After 2 months term exams comes and it needs a good amount of study to pass the exams as teachers just teach you concepts in class and tell the ways to tackle and solve the problem but hard work for study the exams will be from your side. At the time of exams, Teachers are busy with students and you can take the time from them by phone call or Whatsapp. Befriend with some seniors as in the non-availability of teachers they can teach you some topics and can become your life saviour in exams. Don't expect any postponement of exams due to any crisis as the DEAN will not going to allow as He takes the offline exams in Covid times also and gives the option for U grade.

Placement Experience:

The placement is the reason many students choose this college in spite of the huge fee issue, you are eligible to sit in placements from the seventh semester of your course. Almost everyone in the Computer Science and Engineering branch and various related branches gets placed. The placement records can be checked from the university website. Almost 200 companies visit the CSE branches and 1-2 offers are the average for each student. The college has also included a Capstone project from the sixth sem for CSE students which helps a lot in placement as good projects are a must for all the companies. Also, research projects can also be done under the mentorship of any faculty member which is useful if you want to study abroad.

Placements are actually pretty good as compared to other private colleges. For my course, the average package is above 10 LPA. Big companies like Microsoft, Amazon, Samsung etc. have come in our college. Packages as high as 40 LPA have been offered to the students by such companies.

Thapar University: 2 Answered Questions

What is your review of Thapar University(Patiala)?

Namrata Das
Dhruv Chowdhurystudied at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (2020)

Thapar University has a brand name, however, the ground reality for this university is not very pleasant and it is swiftly losing the qualities that defined it in its glorious past. The rankings of students enrolled in the university are going down each year. The administration is taking serious measures against the same, however, because of these measures the other students are suffering. One example is the strict entry and exit timings.

Academically, your experience in this institution will differ according to your branch. The CSE branch has a cooperative faculty and lenient attendance criteria. This is not the case for other branches. In other branches, some faculty members may hold personal grudges against you while some may fail you for missing the required attendance mark (75%) by as small as 0.1%. The mess is below average and the classrooms are not very impressive.  The administration is very slow.

However, there are positive points about Thapar University as well. The alumni from Thapar are placed in some of the best companies in India and abroad. It has some of the best synthetic courts in any engineering college in India. There are many teachers at Thapar University who serve as a source of inspiration to their students. Sports facilities for all the major sports are great. Placements at Thapar University are great and the labs are well updated. Even though Thapar is facing a drug problem, its teachers and administration are very active in trying to solve this issue.

Thus, even though Thapar University has outlived its glorious days, it has some positive points too. It is completely your choice whether or not you wish to take admission into it.

Why are the placements in Thapar University so high despite the bad reviews of many students studying at Thapar?

Kriti GoyalStudied at Thapar University (2019)

Thapar University has better placements than most private colleges and NITs. But the problem is, placements here directly depend on the grades of the students, and only the serious ones who work hard to build their profile bag the best packages.

Now the reviews of students are mixed because not everyone invests the same efforts and bags high packages. The people giving bad reviews are the ones who did not build their resumes well.

The best thing about Thapar University is the level of freedom you get to experience here. However, the increasing intake is slowly deteriorating the student quality so you might want to consider this before joining.
