Remarks

The competition for admission to Thapar University is very high, especially for Computer branches. From all states of India, students are coming for admission on the marks of the board and Jee Mains at my counselling time. The Frosh society of Thapar University is conducting counselling which is very helpful for people and they provide forms for that. One advantage of this university is that with computer branches, there is a Dera Bassi campus branch which offers CSE courses and cutoff and competition is very low concerning other branches. They provide a 50% reservation quota to Punjab state students. It has also had a reservation for ST/SC and J&K students. Admission for foreign students is also available here as my many friends from Nepal, Canada is studying here. For improvement, it's their website that fails in heavy traffic.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

I have an interest in computer science and engineering so I choose this course. The facility student ratio is 1:15 and faculties all are PhD qualified and the teaching method is through the projector. After 2 months term exams comes and it needs a good amount of study to pass the exams as teachers just teach you concepts in class and tell the ways to tackle and solve the problem but hard work for study the exams will be from your side. At the time of exams, Teachers are busy with students and you can take the time from them by phone call or Whatsapp. Befriend with some seniors as in the non-availability of teachers they can teach you some topics and can become your life saviour in exams. Don't expect any postponement of exams due to any crisis as the DEAN will not going to allow as He takes the offline exams in Covid times also and gives the option for U grade.

Internships Opportunities

3.5

There are 20+ companies for internships in the 3rd year which apply CGP criteria. Feminism is promoted very much in the recruitment of internships. They take their coding test for requirements. So good practice of coding questions and we project needed to clarify the task. In the 4th year, Placement drive is very good on campus as product based companies like GOOgle, Arcesium and Flipkart are visiting the campus which provides the highest package of 42-43 lakh and avg package for cse goes to 14-15 lakhs. Every student of this college get placements and service based companies like TCS, Wipro are also coming which are mass recruiters and take the students in bulk. Having good skills in coding and good cgp gives wings to your dreams.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees are very much high and no fees were reduced during covid times and they also increased the fees and also cancelled the option of instalments also in it. The scholarship is given to 10 CGP students and financial assistance is given to needy people only. The overall fees for Btech 4 years are 20-22 lakhs and in upcoming years it's going to be increased. If you want Hostel and Mess facilities then fees reach 30 lakh which is a common thing for all private universities in India. The loan facility is available in Thapar as it has 2 banks on its campus icci and sbi. The companies visiting are very good with great jobs which gives an advantage over other universities to choose it.

Campus Life

3.5

The annual fest is Saturnalia and is conducted at year end of December month. Navalanda library is there for the availability of books which is 5 storey building. You can find every group as religious books like Bhagavad Gita and Vedanta is also there. Projects and seats are there in the classroom. Sports environments are good as there are large playgrounds and sports facilities which are directly proportional to high fees. Thapar has many clubs and societies and classrooms are very neat and clean as cleaning facility is very good here. The Computer Department is fully A.C and free from dust while the Mechanical department has no AC. In Thapar, student gatherings can be found on every corner of campus and guards also enjoy with them in their group.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

Room facilities are provided is good for some hostels but not according to the fees taken. The quality of the meal is good but the recipe is not good for a meal. Registration for the hostel is done online and prices are much high. There are 12 hostels for boys and G, H, I hostels for girls and many more hostels are going to build in future as students admission and numbers are going to increase in Thapar. Students are not allowed to go out of hostels after 9 pm in covid times. In Covid times, You can't go home for a semester or you will be quarantined or you have some setting with guards and above officials. There are excellent PGs around the campus that are less costly than hostels and provide you good facilities but you have food problems in PGs.

Companies start coming summer internships in the 5th and 6th semester though ,CG cuts are imposed so very less students are elgible to sit for these companies, The real placement season is 7th and 8th semester and many companies visit campus for placements. around 60 percent students got placed in the recent placement drive. The major recruiters are: Oracle, CISCO, JPMC,Deloite,IBM,ZS etc.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
