Remarks
It was quite simple and very well process. I had applied for Thapar after the result of my jee mains, in which I scored 95 commutative percentile for the cutoff for the COE branch. The initial process for seat selection was in online mode, Then Thapar held counseling regarding the admission in person in which we have to confirm our seat and pay the fee and confirm the hostel also.
Course Curriculum Overview
The reason for choosing the COE branch was very simple as my elder brother attended the same course in Thapar itself. This course has a good placement record in all of Thapar's courses. So the batches are divided randomly and there are around 25-30 students per batch and then 8 batches were combined for making one lecture group, but for practicals and tutorials, the batches are not combined. This makes 200 students per batch in lecture, and Thapar has good infrastructure to keep the lectures smoothly going. The faculty is well qualified and understandable. But some faculty are hard to understand. Exams are difficult but checking is sometimes lenient.
Internships Opportunities
Internships are usually offered before the fourth year of the degree. There are two-month internships usually offered to students. Companies such as TI, Salesforce, Goldman Sachs, etc usually offer internships. Candidates are shortlisted based on their CVs or CGPAs.
Placement Experience
Previous year records show that Thapar has a good placement record according to my knowledge. Companies like Amazon, Cisco, Xebia, Siemens, Samsung R&D, etc offer placements for last year students. Around 70-80% of students are placed on-campus or off-campus. The rest of the students usually go for master's or prepare for some competitive exams. My plan is to get a good placement offer.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee is too much as compared to other colleges/univ. and you have to be at academics to get the scholarship. You can also get a scholarship if you have accomplished something at the national/ international level also. The fee is hiked every year by 10% or10-12k.
Campus Life
You need to have good communication skills for participating in cultural societies and clubs. Due to covid most of these societies needed to be operated in online mode. There are equipment and grounds for every outdoor sport.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel is the best part of the non-academic life in Thapar. The facilities available are top-notch. Hostel fees are quite a hefty sum of amount. Most of the hostel rooms have AC in them. PG faculty are also available nearby campus.
Interview Experience
There are courses in the third semester that are based on public speaking and group discussion. You can also take part in cultural societies they conduct these types of activities. Thapar has some companies that offer on-campus placement/ internships they also conduct interview rounds and coding tests.
