Birla Institute of Technology and Science - [BITS] Recent Admission Alerts and Updates

Birla Institute of Technology and Science is one of the popular engineering institutes in Rajasthan which has consistently maintained its position in the list of top 20 engineering institutes of India. Recently it has been ranked at #18 in engineering institutes of India.

BITS has pushed up its ranking and is currently ranked at #30 by NIRF and has been consistent with its #6 rank credited by Outlook India. There has been a fall in the QS BRICS Ranking from 80 to 96 recently. 

Other magazines like THE WEEK has placed the institute at #7 ranks considering the efforts made by the faculty and the number of courses available.

Overall BITS has progressed in recent years and that is all because of the improved quality of education and recruitment of new staff at administration and management departments. Outside the country the institute is ranked at #175 as an engineering institute in Asia.

National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), launched in 2015 by the Ministry of HRD, is used to rank the Indian Institutions across the country. In 2020, BITS has been ranked #30 which is less as compared to previous years.

Outlook ICARE magazine has a separate column mentioning the rankings of various engineering and management colleges in India. In 2019, Birla Institute of Technology and Science is ranked at #15 in the list of best engineering institutes of India.

Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) is a worldwide education network which every year publishes QS World University Ranking which includes all the universities and subject rankings. It has a separate Asia university rankings and QS BRIC ranking for all the Asian universities. The Week’s Ranking for top engineering colleges has ranked BITS Pilani at #7 places in 2019 and there is a rise in ranking compared to previous years. 

The agency has a standardized ranking system to decide the overall score. The parameters for the same are as follows: 

  • Perceptual Score: It is provided depending on how many nominations of academicians, recruiters, and students have been received.
  • Factual Score: It is based on all the factual data like faculty, accreditations, and placements.

Ans. BITS Pilani, ranked 30th by NIRF amongst top engineering colleges in India, and the best private engineering college is very well renowned for computer science. While IIT Dharwad hasn't been ranked yet by NIRF. On the other hand, IIT Delhi is ranked 2nd for engineering. Course fee structure and student strength: College and Course Fee Structure(total) Seat intake CS BITS Pilani 16.73 lacs 80-100 CS IIT Dharwad 8.8. lacs 50-60 Civil Engineering IIT Delhi 5 lacs 110 Course Curriculum: CS BITS Pilani: The program is aimed to hone industrial expertise and curate innovative minds Students will learn various subjects like Data Structures, Algorithms, Database Systems, operating systems and Microprocessors, etc. Compulsory courses in developing modern technologies such as ML/AI/IOT/Data Analytics CS IIT Dharwad: Students are also encouraged to take up internships, research projects offered by the institute in collaboration with several other universities across the globe. Ans. BITS Hyderabad, which is affiliated under BITS Pilani, ranked 30th by NIRF amongst top engineering colleges in India, is very well renowned for computer science. While IIT Tirupati and IIT Palakkad were recently established and haven't been ranked yet by NIRF. Ans. Birla Institute of Technology and Science(BITS),Goa, has been ranked 17 among the top engineering colleges in India by NIRF. It is a relatively new college. On the other hand, PES University (People’s Education Society University),Bangalore, established in 1972, is ranked 93 among top engineering colleges in NIRF 2019 Rankings. International Accreditations: BITS Goa has their own committee known as International Programs and Collaboration Division(IPDC) which organizes various events and seminars in collaboration with various international institutes like Trinity College, Dublin, Michigan State University and many others. PES University attained the International IET-UK accreditation for its eight B.Tech and M. Tech programmes. They have matched the International Quality Benchmark. FEES: COURSES BITS PES B.E/B.TECH 16 LPA 1.5-13.21 LPA M.E/M.TECH 7.5 LPA 1.28-6.5 LPA Placements: BITS Goa The placement rate in BITS Goa is about 90%. The highest package received by the students was 14.5 LPA The average package was around 6.15 LPA. Some of the top recruiters include Tech Mahindra, HP, Polaris, Bosch, Federal Bank, Oracle, Microsoft etc. PES University The placement rate was recorded at around 90% with a total of 851 companies visiting the college. The maximum Package offered in Kongu Engineering College is 50 LPA and an average package of 5.5 LPA. Ans. Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar and BITS Pilani are among top Institutions of India. IIT Bhubaneswar and BITS Pilani are ranked 22 and 27 in the engineering category respectively by NIRF in 2020. The admissions in both the Institute is done through national level examinations.  Admission: IIT Bhubaneswar: The admission is done on the basis of rank secured in JEE Advanced. Students must have passed 10+2 levels of education with 75% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Usually, the cut-off of this program ranges between 2134 - 7160 for male candidates and 3456 - 12989 for female candidates. The annual course fee is INR 2.14 lakhs. BITS Pilani:  Admission to BE in Electronics and instrumentation courses is done on the basis of a Computer-based Online Test (BITSAT) conducted by the institute itself. Students must have passed 10+2 levels of education with 75% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English  Students have to score 60% marks individually in each subject. First-year course fee is INR 4.23 lakhs Placement: IIT Bhubaneswar: The Mechanical Engineering course has a placement rate of almost 80 percent. Ans. Both the colleges are best in providing quality education. The latest ranking of the IIEST is 19. Whereas, BITS, Goa is placed in the top 100. However, one should not judge the colleges based on rankings and branding. Here is more about each college in detail. IIEST, Shibpur- Admissions & Fee: The college has several programs in graduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs. The college accepts students based on the performance in JEE Main, GATE, CAT/XAT/MAT. The fee for B.Tech courses is 1.37 lakhs. Placements: The college has good placement records. The highest and average salary of the students is 39.12 LPA and 9 LPA respectively. More than 100 companies provide offers to students in various fields with the highest salaries. Top companies visiting the campus are Snapdeal, Wipro, Intel, Infosys, Google, Microsoft, Cognizant, Foster Wheeler, Hindustan, Hyundai Motors, Accenture, Capgemini, etc. Faculty and Other Facilities: The faculty at this college hold the highest degrees in their respective fields. Also, most of the professors are awarded several honors.
