COEP B.Tech admission covers 923 sanctioned seats across 10 programmes. Computer Science Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Electronics and Telecommunication each have 150 seats. All remaining branches have 75 or fewer seats.

As per Collegedunia Reviews, COEP students highlight the strong alumni network and Pune industry connections. Many note that MHT-CET rank matters more than JEE Main for most students since 80% of seats fall under the state quota. Preparation for MHT-CET is often the priority for Maharashtra aspirants targeting COEP.

Category Academic Eligibility Entrance Exam
Maharashtra State Quota (80% seats) 10+2 with Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry. Minimum 50% aggregate in PCM (45% for SC/ST of Maharashtra). Maharashtra domicile required. MHT-CET 2026 (PCM)
All India Quota (20% seats) 10+2 with Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry. Minimum 75% aggregate in PCM (65% for SC/ST) as per JEE Main eligibility norms. JEE Main 2026
Lateral Entry (2nd year) Diploma in Engineering with minimum 45% aggregate (Maharashtra domicile required). MHT-CET Lateral (DLETA)
  • Sanctioned intake by branch: CSE 150, E&TC 150, Mechanical 150, Civil 75, Electrical 75, Manufacturing Science 75, Metallurgy 75, Instrumentation and Control 38, Robotics and AI 75, Planning 60.
  • B.Tech fee at COEP: INR 238,790 per year total (tuition: INR 87,000; development and other fees: INR 151,790).

COEP B.Tech Selection Criteria 2026

Maharashtra CAP prepares separate inter-se merit lists for MHT-CET and JEE Main tracks. Seat allotment is based purely on entrance exam score and category within each quota. No personal interview or group discussion is conducted.

  • MHT-CET percentile determines rank in the state quota merit list.
  • JEE Main percentile determines rank in the All India quota merit list.
  • Maharashtra reservation norms apply: SC (13%), ST (7%), OBC (19%), EWS (10%), VJ (3%), NT categories, PwD (5% horizontal).
  • Tiebreaker within MHT-CET: Mathematics marks at 10+2 level break ties in merit rank.

Key Insight: COEP Computer Science Engineering closes at very competitive MHT-CET ranks. Mechanical and E&TC are more accessible. Candidates with JEE Main scores below 99 percentile often find state quota MHT-CET a more reliable route to COEP CSE. Check official CAP round-wise allotment lists at cetcell.mahacet.org for branch-specific closing ranks.

COEP Technological University Admissions: Students' Opinion

  • BTech

AI-Generated Summary based on 195 Reviews

Admission to the B.Tech program in Computer Science and Information Technology at the College of Engineering, Pune (COEP) is based on entrance exams—MHT CET and JEE Main. Applicants must have passed Class 12 with a minimum of 50% in PCM, but a 60% threshold is also referenced. Cutoffs are high due to the college's reputation; for general category, the MHT CET cutoff is around 99 percentile and 95 percentile for JEE Main.

Admission through MHT CET accounts for 85% of seats, with the remaining 15% through JEE Main. Reserved categories such as SC, ST, OBC, and EWS benefit from lower cutoffs and reservation quotas, including special quotas for defense, orphans, and regional candidates. No management seats are available as the admission is solely merit-based. Prospective students undergo Centralized Admission Process (CAP) rounds for college allocation. The MHT CET is considered a moderately difficult exam with a single annual session.

The process involves an online application and document submission, followed by an offline confirmation at the college. Timelines for entrance exams and counseling are announced on the college's official website. Domicile candidates have a competitive edge due to reservations, while those in the general category require high scores to secure a seat.
