B.Tech (Lateral Entry) Diploma in Engineering with 45% marks (40% reserved) or B.Sc with Maths and Physics Maharashtra CAP counselling; 10% of sanctioned seats reserved for lateral entry

COEP B.Tech Selection Criteria 2026

COEP Technological University B.Tech admission is purely merit-based. No interview, essay, or college-level test is conducted. Seats are allotted based on rank in the relevant entrance exam and candidate preference during CAP choice filling.

  • MHT CET percentile determines rank for the 80% Maharashtra domicile seats.
  • JEE Main All India rank determines rank for the 20% All India quota seats.
  • For COEP Pune CSE (300 seats), the MHT CET Round 1 cutoff was 99.45 percentile (2025 data). The JEE Main All India quota CSE cutoff was approximately rank 8,088 (2025 data).
  • Tiebreaker: Marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics at Class 12 level, as per DTE Maharashtra norms.
  • Category-wise merit lists are published separately on cetcell.mahacet.org for all rounds.

As per Collegedunia Reviews, COEP Pune’s faculty is generally well-qualified and supportive. Some reviewers note that self-study supplements certain courses effectively. Students appreciate the practical orientation of the curriculum, with real-world problem-solving integrated into coursework from the first year.

Key insight: COEP Pune CSE is among the most competitive non-IIT B.Tech seats in Maharashtra. A MHT CET percentile below 99 significantly reduces chances for CSE. Branches like Manufacturing Science, Metallurgy, and Instrumentation typically have lower cutoffs and offer strong placement outcomes.

AI-Generated Summary based on 195 Reviews

Admission to the B.Tech program in Computer Science and Information Technology at the College of Engineering, Pune (COEP) is based on entrance exams—MHT CET and JEE Main. Applicants must have passed Class 12 with a minimum of 50% in PCM, but a 60% threshold is also referenced. Cutoffs are high due to the college's reputation; for general category, the MHT CET cutoff is around 99 percentile and 95 percentile for JEE Main.

Admission through MHT CET accounts for 85% of seats, with the remaining 15% through JEE Main. Reserved categories such as SC, ST, OBC, and EWS benefit from lower cutoffs and reservation quotas, including special quotas for defense, orphans, and regional candidates. No management seats are available as the admission is solely merit-based. Prospective students undergo Centralized Admission Process (CAP) rounds for college allocation. The MHT CET is considered a moderately difficult exam with a single annual session.

The process involves an online application and document submission, followed by an offline confirmation at the college. Timelines for entrance exams and counseling are announced on the college's official website. Domicile candidates have a competitive edge due to reservations, while those in the general category require high scores to secure a seat.
