The University of Texas at Arlington Admission Requirements
UTA sets clear academic and English-language thresholds for Indian graduate applicants, with programme-level review used to make final admission decisions.
- Academic Eligibility (PG): Indian 4-year bachelor’s degree with a minimum CGPA of 6.5/10 or 65% aggregate (recommended); 3-year bachelor’s holders should add a completed 1-year master’s for equivalency
- English Language (PG): TOEFL iBT 79 (0-120 scale) or 4 (1-6 scale), IELTS Academic 6.5, or Duolingo English Test 100; TOEFL sectional preferences are Writing 22, Speaking 21, Reading 20, Listening 16
- Credential Verification: All Indian transcripts must be submitted with a course-by-course evaluation from WES or an equivalent NACES-member agency
- Standardised Tests: GRE is not required university-wide but is preferred by several engineering departments; GMAT is optional for the MBA and MS Business Analytics tracks
UG Requirements: Class 12 completion from CBSE, ICSE or a state board with 75% or higher for STEM majors; same English test minimums as graduate applicants apply.
Key insight: UTA accepts the Duolingo English Test at 100 across nearly all programmes, which lets Indian applicants avoid the longer TOEFL and IELTS booking waits in Tier-2 cities without giving up any admission consideration.
The University of Texas at Arlington Acceptance Rate 2027
The University of Texas at Arlington has an undergraduate acceptance rate of 80% as per US News Best Colleges 2026, placing it in the accessible-tier of US public research universities. This is the most reliable published figure because it comes from the university’s Common Data Set filings.
| Year | Acceptance Rate | Trend |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 | 80% | Stable |
| 2025 | 81% | Marginal decline |
| 2024 | 82% | Baseline |
[Source: US News Best Colleges 2026 Common Data Set]
Graduate admission is programme-driven at UTA, so MS Computer Science and MS Aerospace Engineering are more selective than the undergraduate headline number suggests. MBA and MS Business Analytics review cohorts holistically with room for strong professional profiles.
Reality check: The 80% headline reflects undergraduate admission and does not translate to graduate cohorts; MS applicants with CGPA above 7.5/10 and TOEFL above 90 sit comfortably inside the confirmed admit band at UTA.

The University of Texas at Arlington Campus, Facilities and Student Life
UTA sits on a 420-acre campus in Arlington, midway between Dallas and Fort Worth, giving students access to a metropolitan job market of 8 million people while paying suburban rents.
- Location and Transport: 20 minutes from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport; free UTA shuttle network plus rideshare hubs on Cooper Street
- Housing: On-campus rooms guaranteed for first-year international undergraduates; graduate students typically choose the Timber Brook, Centennial Court or off-campus complexes at USD 550 to 750 per bedroom
- Signature Facility: The Central Library maintains 24-hour access during term time and houses one of the largest STEM digital collections in Texas
- Indian Community: An active Indian Students Association hosts Diwali, Holi and Ganesh Chaturthi events every year, and the metro area supports 8 major temples and dozens of Indian grocers and restaurants
What Indian students say: The metroplex job network is the biggest draw after coursework; part-time on-campus roles pay USD 12 to 15 per hour, and CPT internships in Dallas-based tech and aerospace firms are common by the second semester.
The University of Texas at Arlington Scholarships 2027
UTA channels graduate international funding primarily through departmental assistantships and the Mav ScholarShop portal rather than a single named international award, so Indian applicants should apply to their intended department directly after admission.
| Scholarship | Type | Award Value | Eligibility | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Graduate Teaching Assistantship (GTA) | Assistantship with tuition waiver to in-state rate | USD 12,000 to 20,000 stipend plus non-resident tuition waiver | Admitted PG students; departmental application | Rolling; align with priority deadline |
| Graduate Research Assistantship (GRA) | Assistantship with tuition waiver to in-state rate | USD 15,000 to 24,000 stipend plus non-resident tuition waiver | Faculty-selected; STEM programmes primarily | Rolling; matched to research funding |
| Mav ScholarShop Departmental Awards | Merit and need-based | Variable | Admitted UTA students across colleges | Rolling application |
| College of Business Scholarships 2025-2026 Programme | Merit-based | Variable | Business school admits including MBA and MS Business Analytics | Verify at official page |

External Indian applicants also stack awards from J N Tata Endowment, K C Mahindra Scholarships and Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation, all of which have supported UTA-bound students in recent cycles.
Planning note: The GTA and GRA routes are where most fee reduction happens because they cut non-resident tuition to in-state rates, which alone saves USD 12,000 or INR 11.5 lakh per year at UTA.
The University of Texas at Arlington Rankings 2027

The University of Texas at Arlington Placements and Career Outcomes 2027
UTA does not publish a centralised placement rate for graduate international students, so outcomes here draw on regional salary medians and university-disclosed career services data.
- Median MS Starting Salary: USD 70,000 to 95,000 in the Dallas-Fort Worth market (market median for CS and Engineering graduates)
- Median MBA Starting Salary: USD 75,000 to 105,000 (market median for US regional MBA programmes)
- Top Sectors: Aerospace and defence, IT services, healthcare technology, energy and oil-and-gas services
- Representative Employers in DFW: Lockheed Martin, Bell Textron, Raytheon, American Airlines, ExxonMobil, Toyota Motor North America
- Career Support: Handshake platform integration, weekly Career Development Center coaching, and a STEM-focused annual career fair each September
Indian alumni are visible across Dallas-Fort Worth technology firms, with the metroplex hosting one of the largest Indian professional communities in the southern US, and STEM OPT-eligible master’s graduates access 3 total years of post-completion work authorisation.
Insider note: Aerospace and mechanical engineering MS graduates report the strongest recruiting outcomes because Lockheed Martin, Bell Textron and Raytheon operate flagship plants within a 30-minute drive of the Arlington campus.
The University of Texas at Arlington vs Peer Universities
Peer comparison uses similar-tier US public research universities to help Indian applicants triangulate fit on ranking, cost and outcomes.
| University | QS Rank 2027 | Annual PG Fee (USD) | Annual PG Fee (INR lakh) | Differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The University of Texas at Arlington | #1001-1200 | USD 23,486 | INR 22.52 lakh | Lowest fee tier in the DFW public research group |
| University of Texas at Dallas | #601-620 | USD 32,000 | INR 30.69 lakh | Stronger CS ranking; higher cost profile |
| University of Houston | #801-850 | USD 26,000 | INR 24.93 lakh | Energy sector recruiting anchor |
| Texas Tech University | #801-850 | USD 25,500 | INR 24.45 lakh | Broader campus town setting |
| University of North Texas | #1001-1200 | USD 22,000 | INR 21.10 lakh | Comparable tier with music and arts strength |
UTA stands out on cost-adjusted engineering outcomes; only UNT undercuts its non-resident tuition, and neither Houston nor Texas Tech matches its US News Aerospace Engineering rank of #45.
The DFW location gives Indian graduates same-city access to defence, aviation and telecom recruiters that peer schools reach only through relocation.
Indian applicants comparing UTA to master’s options should ideally weigh total investment against the STEM OPT eligibility and DFW employer density, and shortlist 3 peer schools of similar tier to strengthen visa financial documentation.
The University of Texas at Arlington fits an Indian STEM master’s applicant with a CGPA of 6.5/10 or above and roughly INR 42 lakh in confirmed annual funding, given a median DFW starting salary band of USD 70,000 to 95,000 that pays back tuition within 3 years of graduation on STEM OPT. Its aerospace and mechanical engineering programmes plus the Dallas-Fort Worth defence corridor give Indian graduates one of the best regional cost-to-recruiting ratios in Texas.
UTA is not the right fit for applicants targeting elite tech-only recruiting into Bay Area firms; those students should compare offers with the University of Texas at Dallas or Arizona State University where CS-specific ranking depth is higher.
FAQs
Ques. Which English tests does The University of Texas at Arlington accept for admission?
Ans. UTA accepts four tests for international admission: TOEFL iBT at 79 on the 0-120 scale or 4 on the 1-6 scale, IELTS Academic at 6.5 overall, and the Duolingo English Test at 100. The university also lists TOEFL sectional preferences of Writing 22, Speaking 21, Reading 20 and Listening 16, but a total-score pass generally suffices for graduate admission across departments.
Ques. Does UTA waive the GRE for MS Computer Science applicants from India?
Ans. UTA does not require the GRE at the university level, but the Department of Computer Science and Engineering strongly prefers GRE scores from international applicants because it uses the test to filter within a large Indian applicant pool. Indian applicants with CGPA above 8.0/10 have been admitted without GRE in recent cycles, but submitting a Quant score above 160 remains the safer route.
Ques. Can Indian students work part-time on campus at The University of Texas at Arlington?
Ans. Yes, F-1 international students at UTA can work up to 20 hours per week on campus during term and up to 40 hours during official breaks. Common on-campus roles include library assistant, teaching assistant and dining services positions paying USD 12 to 15 per hour, or INR 1,150 to 1,440 per hour at current exchange rates.
Ques. What is the application fee for The University of Texas at Arlington international applicants?
Ans. UTA charges an international application fee of USD 90 for graduate applicants and USD 90 for undergraduate applicants, payable online during the application process. The fee is non-refundable and does not carry a broad waiver programme for Indian applicants; select departments occasionally issue fee coupons through recruiting drives and outreach events.
Ques. How does UTA evaluate a 3-year Indian bachelor’s degree for graduate admission?
Ans. UTA requires the equivalent of a US 4-year bachelor’s degree for graduate admission, and a 3-year Indian bachelor’s is typically deemed insufficient on its own. Indian applicants with a 3-year bachelor’s should complete a 1-year master’s or a postgraduate diploma before applying, and every transcript must be evaluated course-by-course by WES or another NACES-member agency.
Ques. Do Indian education loan providers recognise The University of Texas at Arlington?
Ans. Yes, major Indian lenders including HDFC Credila, Avanse, Auxilo, State Bank of India and Bank of Baroda recognise UTA for education loans up to INR 60 lakh secured, and up to INR 45 lakh unsecured for STEM master’s programmes. Prodigy Finance and MPower Financing also offer USD-denominated loans without an Indian co-signer for admitted UTA students.
Ques. What is the duration of OPT for UTA STEM master’s graduates?
Ans. UTA STEM master’s graduates in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering and similar DHS-listed programmes qualify for the standard 12-month OPT window plus a 24-month STEM OPT extension, giving 3 total years of post-completion work authorisation in the US. Applicants must file the extension while employed with an E-Verify sponsor.
Ques. Are there dependent visa options for spouses of UTA international students?
Ans. Yes, F-1 students at UTA can bring dependents on F-2 visas, which requires additional financial proof of USD 5,000 to 7,000 per dependent per academic year in the I-20 issuance stage. F-2 dependents cannot work in the US but can enrol part-time in academic study; F-2 children can attend K-12 school full-time under the visa terms.

Dislikes
- Sometimes the documentation works for example scheduling meeting with grad advisor is usually delayed and we need to step ahead of time to get our schedules and timeline fit .
- Being a GRA, i feel like there has been constant funding constraints for RA/TA and we need to be highly competitive to fit in the criteria which is slowly declining in terms of fundings.
- You need to be a quick early bird during the class registration day. It can be stressful and you might not get the desired class under desired professor as they get filled up really quickly

Books and Supplies:$500
Housing:$8k

Overview
I had to submit CV! It can be normal CV. Best example can be seen at Canva.com It is highly reputable. I know most of the students from Bangladesh go there to study and there is no chance of getting visa disapproved It’s the best experience which I didn’t get at my home country. So many things to learn and I feel like I am knowledgeable as well
