Why India's Storytelling Traditions Need Protection

Many traditional forms are becoming rare because fewer young people learn them. Television and smartphones have also reduced regular listening spaces for many artists.

If storytellers disappear, their special style of telling stories can also fade. The chapter asks students to think of practical ways to support artists.

  • Invite traditional storytellers to schools and local events.
  • Record performances with permission and share them with students.
  • Learn one storytelling style and practise it with classmates.
