Monash Opens Bachelor of AI and Agentic Software Engineering to International Students for 2027

Monash University announced two new AI undergraduate degrees on July 30, 2026, with first intake in Semester 1, 2027. The move opens fresh options for Indian Class 12 students targeting an Australian tech degree next year. The announcement came from Monash’s Faculty of Information Technology, one of the largest IT faculties in Australia. A third new degree, the Bachelor of CyberAI (Industry Co-Lab), is restricted to domestic students only.

• The Bachelor of AI is the first such undergraduate degree offered by a Group of Eight university in Australia, and it is open to international students from February 2027.
• The Bachelor of Agentic Software Engineering (Honours), course code C3003, is a four-year program at the Clayton campus in Melbourne, also open to international applicants.

Indian applicants planning a February 2027 start now have two extra IT pathways at Monash. Both new undergraduate degrees carry an explicit AI focus at the bachelor level, not just an elective stream. This matters because most Australian universities still route AI through a broader Bachelor of Computer Science or an IT major.

Bachelor of AI Is Australia’s First From a Group of Eight

The Bachelor of AI is the flagship of the new suite. Monash calls it the first undergraduate AI degree from any Group of Eight university, the country’s research-intensive university block. The first intake begins in February 2027.

Monash’s Faculty of IT has framed the degree as an industry-facing course, not a research-only stream. Coursework will cover machine learning foundations, model deployment, and applied AI projects with industry partners. The degree runs at the Clayton campus in Melbourne, the faculty’s main base.

Bachelor of Agentic Software Engineering: What Is Inside the Course

The Bachelor of Agentic Software Engineering (Honours), listed as course C3003, is the second new degree open to international students. It combines standard software engineering with agentic AI workflows, the fast-growing area of building autonomous AI agents.

Per the official Monash course page, the honours degree teaches students to design, build, deploy and evolve reliable software systems that integrate AI tools, agentic workflows and human-AI collaboration. This is a hands-on engineering degree, not a data-science conversion.

Why the CyberAI Degree Is Off-Limits to International Students

The Bachelor of CyberAI (Industry Co-Lab) is a three-year degree built with CyberCX, an Accenture-owned cyber security firm. It sits inside the Faculty of IT but runs as a co-designed industry program with placements inside CyberCX’s operations.

Monash has stated the CyberAI course will be offered to domestic students from Semester 1, 2027. CyberCX CEO John Paitaridis said "almost half of all cyber security roles remain unfulfilled globally due to a skills gap in cyber and AI." The domestic-only scope reflects Australian security-cleared placement work, which typically requires citizen or PR status.

Expected Fees and How Indian Applicants Should Prepare

Monash has not yet published the exact tuition for the two new AI degrees. As a live benchmark, current Faculty of IT bachelor programs price international first-year tuition at AUD 49,500 (about ₹29.95 Lakhs) for the Bachelor of Information Technology and AUD 54,400 (about ₹32.92 Lakhs) for the Bachelor of Computer Science. The new AI degrees are expected to sit in the same band.

Add Overseas Student Health Cover, the Australian student visa fee, and Melbourne living costs of roughly AUD 24,505 per year, and the full first-year outlay for an Indian student will comfortably cross ₹45 Lakhs.

Applications for the February 2027 intake typically open through the Monash International direct portal, not VTAC, since VTAC is the Victorian domestic admissions route. Indian applicants will need Class 12 marks meeting the international equivalent of Monash’s ATAR benchmark for IT courses, plus Monash University Bachelor of Computer Science style English proficiency scores of IELTS 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0.

Action Plan for Indian Applicants Targeting the February 2027 Intake

1. Check the Bachelor of AI and Bachelor of Agentic Software Engineering (C3003) pages on the Monash Study site for the international fee once Monash publishes it, expected in the coming weeks.
2. Lock an IELTS 6.5 (or TOEFL iBT 79) score by December 2026 at the latest, since Monash requires the score at application, not on arrival.
3. Prepare Class 12 predicted marks and Class 10 transcripts translated into Monash’s international entry equivalence.
4. Budget for AUD 29,710 in proof of funds for one year of living costs, the current Department of Home Affairs figure required for a Subclass 500 student visa.
5. File the Monash International application by November 2026 to leave time for the visa lodgement window before the February 2027 orientation.

Indian students eyeing an Australian AI degree now have a Go8 name to add to the shortlist. The Bachelor of AI and the Bachelor of Agentic Software Engineering both open in February 2027 and both accept international applicants. The Bachelor of CyberAI stays out of reach for this intake and any near-term one, so applicants set on cybersecurity should pivot to Monash’s existing security streams.
