McMaster University is a public university in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Its main campus is a one-hour drive from Toronto and a one-hour flight from major American cities like New York City, Washington D.C, and Chicago.

Campus and Residence at McMaster University

Its main campus is located in the Westdale neighborhood of Hamilton, Ontario, at the western end of Lake Ontario, between Toronto and Niagara Falls. Commuting to the campus is easy with the accessible bus routes and metro.

All the necessary amenities are within the radius of 3km of the campus. McMaster is home to the majority of the university's facilities. Spread across 300 acres, it is divided into three main areas: 

  • Core Campus: Houses most of the university's academic, research and residential buildings
  • North Campus: Comprises the university's athletic precinct and a small number of surface parking.
  • West Campus: The least developed area of the main campus, consisting of only a couple of buildings, surface parking, and undeveloped land.

McMaster University also has four regional campuses:

  • Downtown Hamilton
  • Burlington
  • Kitchener-Waterloo
  • Niagara

The other campuses that provide only clinical medical education for undergraduate and postgraduate learners are Burlington Clinical Education Campus, Grand Erie Six Nations Clinical Education Campus, and Halton Clinical Education Campus.

Residential Housing

McMaster University offers the housing facility in 12 on-campus residences, just a five-minute walk to the classes, athletic facilities, libraries and dining facilities.

  • Accommodation capacity: almost 3,600 students.
  • Buildings are divided into traditional dormitory style and apartment/suite style with a private room and kitchen, a washroom, and a living room on a shared basis.
  • There are the Co-ed and only-female halls of different sizes.
  • The off-campus living facility is also available. The Off-Campus Resource Centre assists students to find apartments, houses, and rooms off-campus.
  • Society of off-campus students (SOCS) is the largest clubs sponsored by McMaster Students Union

McMaster University Admission

McMaster University Admission requirements differ for different programs. Here are a few steps:

  1. Visit the official website of McMaster and create an account.
  2. Select the course and check the eligibility criteria.
  3. Be ready with all the test scores and upload the other necessary documents
  4. Pay the application fee of CAD 110 and CAD 150 for MBA. You can remit the same via credit card.
  5. Applicants from outside Canada should complete their application process at least five months before the date of entry.
  6. Once you have submitted your online application, you will receive an email shortly confirming the submission.

You can check your application status online anytime by logging into the Mosaic system. You are required to show proof of financial background while applying for a student visa.

Scholarships and Financial Aids

McMaster University provides financial aid for its international students based on their academic qualifications, eligibility requirements.

  • No need for a separate application.

McMaster Work While You Study

On-Campus: Students can work on the campus while studying at the university.

  • Enrolled in a full-time program.
  • Have a valid study permit.
  • Have a Social Insurance Number (SIN).
  • Can work for a maximum of 20 hours/week during studies.
  • Can work full time during school holidays.

Off-Campus: Students also have the flexibility to work off-campus considering they have a SIN.

  • Have a valid study permit
  • Enrolled in a full-time program
  • Already doing a course to obtain a degree, diploma or certificate with a duration of at least 6 months.

How to get the Social Insurance Number(SIN)?

SIN number is mandatory in order to work on-campus or off-campus for tax purposes. A social number is valid until the end of your stay or a maximum of 5 years, whichever is earlier. You can renew if the same is necessary.

One can obtain a SIN by going in person to Service Canada office along with the following documents:

  • Passport 
  • Study permit
  • Your off-campus work permit/internship program permit.
