AMSOM Admission Process
AMSOM admissions are strictly merit based with no quotas. Every programme uses a holistic review of academic record, entrance scores and a personal or faculty interaction. The MBA cohort is kept small and deliberately diverse, and full-time work experience, including in a family business, earns credit in the review. Below are the details regarding AMSOM Admission:
AMSOM MBA Admission
The MBA is the flagship programme at AMSOM. There is no fixed entrance cutoff, and shortlisting is based on the full profile rather than a percentile threshold. Scholarship bands suggest that a CAT or XAT score of 85+ percentile, NMAT 228+, GMAT 645+ or GRE 323+ is treated as a strong score.
- Eligibility: minimum 60% or equivalent CGPA in Class 10, Class 12 and the bachelor's degree. Final-year students graduating in 2027 may apply.
- Entrance: a valid CAT, XAT, NMAT, GMAT or GRE score. Multiple scores can be submitted and the best is considered. Arts and Humanities graduates can instead take the on-campus AMSOM Aptitude Test.
- Application: online form with academic records, test scores, work experience, a mandatory two-minute self-video on one of four themes, and an optional book review.
- Faculty Interaction: a 30 to 40 minute conversation on campus or online. Applicants who review a listed book can instead interact with the Vice Chancellor for a spot offer.
- Decision: results are declared as Offer, Waitlisted or Reject. Offered candidates pay INR 1 Lakh to confirm the seat.
AMSOM BSM (Honours), B.Com and BA (Honours) Admission
Undergraduate admission runs through a single university-wide application form. Students can list more than one programme or major on the same form and may change their major up to the second year.
- Eligibility: Class 12 or equivalent from any COBSE-recognised board, Cambridge, IB or the American High School Diploma. Commerce at school is not compulsory for BSM or B.Com.
- Selection: past academic performance, a written Personal Statement and a personal interaction with faculty.
- Bridge courses are run during the programme for students without prior commerce or mathematics exposure.
AMSOM MS Economics, MS Quantitative Finance and PhD Admission
The MS in Economics requires 55% across Class 10, 12 and graduation, and a score in CUET-PG, CAT, GATE, IIT JAM, GMAT or GRE. Applicants without a score can take the Ahmedabad University Graduate Aptitude Test (Economics), followed by a personal interaction. Mathematics at Class 12 or a university-level quantitative course is preferred.
The MS in Quantitative Finance accepts CAT, XAT, NMAT, CMAT, GMAT, GRE, GATE, JAM or CUET-PG scores, and applicants from engineering, mathematics, statistics, physics, economics or finance backgrounds are preferred. Those without a score can sit the 90-minute online AMSOM Test for MSQF, which has 55 questions with no negative marking. The PhD in Management requires a masters with 55%, followed by a two-part written test and an interview, with exemptions for UGC-NET, CAT, GMAT, GATE or GRE holders.
AMSOM Placements
AMSOM placements are run by the Career Development Centre (CDC) of Ahmedabad University, which handles internships, live projects and final placements. As per the university's NIRF 2026 submission, 121 of 138 two-year postgraduate students graduating in 2024-25 were placed, at a median salary of INR 6.13 Lakhs. Banking and finance, FMCG and retail, and consulting and research each accounted for roughly a fifth of postgraduate offers, reflecting the Gujarat-centric recruiter base.
AMSOM Scholarships
Ahmedabad University runs both merit and need-based aid, and states that over 80% of students who apply for financial aid receive some support. Masters scholarships are tied to entrance scores and continue into the second year only on satisfactory academic performance. Sports facilities are being upgraded, and the student body has recorded medals at state and national level in swimming, shooting, gymnastics and kudo in 2026.
AMSOM vs Institute of Management Nirma University vs PDEU School of Management
Aspirants comparing MBA options in Gujarat most often weigh AMSOM against the Institute of Management, Nirma University (IMNU) on S.G. Highway and the School of Management at Pandit Deendayal Energy University (PDEU) in Gandhinagar. All three are private, CAT-accepting B-schools serving the same applicant pool, with fees between INR 9.5 Lakhs and INR 14 Lakhs.
| Parameter | AMSOM, Ahmedabad University | IMNU, Nirma University | PDEU School of Management |
|---|---|---|---|
| MBA Tuition Fee (2 years) | INR 14 Lakhs | INR 12.80 Lakhs (INR 6.40 Lakhs per year) | INR 9.50 Lakhs |
| Exams Accepted | CAT, XAT, NMAT, GMAT, GRE, AMSOM Test | CAT only | CAT, XAT, NMAT, CMAT, MAT, GMAT |

| Collegedunia Rating | 4.1 / 5 (38 reviews) | 4.0 / 5 (33 reviews) | 3.5 / 5 (4 reviews) |
IMNU leads on placement outcomes and carries an NIRF Management rank, backed by a 115-acre residential campus and a larger recruiter base. PDEU School of Management is the lowest-cost option and has a strong energy and infrastructure sector pipeline from its parent university. AMSOM leads on scholarship depth, a small and selective cohort, flexible cross-school electives, and access to a liberal-arts research university ecosystem. Its trade-offs are a higher fee, off-campus housing and a placement record that is still building as the MBA intake scales up.
AMSOM FAQs
Ques. What is the AMSOM MBA cutoff for CAT?
Ans. AMSOM does not publish a fixed CAT cutoff. Shortlisting is holistic and considers academics, entrance scores, work experience and the self-video. A CAT or XAT score of 85 percentile or above qualifies for a merit scholarship of up to 50% of tuition, which indicates the score range the school treats as strong.
Ques. Is AMSOM MBA worth the fees of INR 14 Lakhs?
Ans. The MBA tuition is INR 14 Lakhs for two years, with housing and meals adding about INR 4.92 Lakhs. The 2024 average package was INR 6.64 LPA and the latest postgraduate median is INR 6.13 Lakhs. The value case rests on merit scholarships of up to 50%, small cohorts and cross-disciplinary electives rather than on headline packages, so candidates should factor in scholarship eligibility before deciding.
Ques. Can I apply to the AMSOM MBA without a CAT score?
Ans. Yes. AMSOM accepts XAT, NMAT, GMAT and GRE scores in addition to CAT. Applicants with a bachelor's degree in Arts or Humanities can also take the on-campus AMSOM Aptitude Test, held on October 28, December 3 and February 2. Scores can be updated after the application is submitted.
Ques. Does AMSOM still offer BBA?
Ans. The BBA (Honours) has been renamed the Bachelor of Science in Management (Honours), or BSM (Honours). It is a four-year programme with nine majors, including Finance, Marketing, Business Analytics and Supply Chain Management. Residences are within one kilometre of the Central Campus, with twin-sharing air-conditioned rooms at INR 94,000 per semester plus a meal plan. Housing is a full-year commitment with no refund on bed charges.

AMSOM offers more generous merit scholarships, a wider set of accepted exams and a smaller cohort inside a research university. Candidates prioritising placements usually prefer IMNU, while those seeking scholarship-backed, interdisciplinary study consider AMSOM.
