VJTI: 52 Answered Questions

Which is better, a CS at VIT, VJTI, BITS Goa, BITS Hyderabad, or NIT?

Debdeep Majumder
Prateek Bhagat

great set of colleges to compare for CS. ranking for career outcomes:

BITS Goa ? BITS Hyderabad > VJTI Mumbai > VIT Vellore (and most NITs depend on which NIT)

breakdown:

  • BITS Goa/Hyderabad: same BITS brand, same degree, Practice School internship in 3rd year, best placement infrastructure of these options. avg Rs.20-30 LPA. for CS career, both are excellent
  • VJTI Mumbai: government college, Mumbai location gives incredible internship access, strong alumni. avg Rs.12-18 LPA but consistent. best government option of these
  • VIT Vellore: strong national private brand, large recruiters base (TCS, Wipro, Infosys + some product companies). avg Rs.8-12 LPA with top offers Rs.30-40+ LPA. works well for students who build strong profiles
  • NITs (specific matters a lot): top NITs (Trichy, Warangal) CSE > VIT for brand + government tag. mid-tier NITs ? VIT

verdict: if you have BITS Goa or BITS Hyderabad for CS — take it. if only VJTI, VIT or mid-tier NIT — VJTI > VIT Chennai ? good NITs. all are solid careers ahead of you with the right effort.

Which is better: the College of Engineering, Pune (COEP) or the VJTI, Mumbai for computer science engineering?

Rekha Menon

VJTI Mumbai has a slight edge over COEP Pune for Computer Science, primarily due to the Mumbai location advantage — but both are excellent government colleges.

  • VJTI Mumbai: Mumbai's tech and startup ecosystem gives exceptional internship access. strong alumni network in both service companies and product companies. college itself is one of Maharashtra's oldest engineering institutions. Mumbai city exposure is hard to match
  • COEP Pune (now COEP Technological University): got university status recently, very strong brand in Pune. excellent CSE department, strong placements, active coding culture. deep ties with Pune's IT companies (Infosys, TCS, Persistent, Cognizant all recruit heavily)

the honest verdict: for CS career, Mumbai > Pune location-wise gives VJTI an edge. but COEP is definitely not a downgrade — COEP CS students do very well in placements and it's a more focused, smaller college with better faculty ratio. If you get COEP, don't feel you missed out. both would be in most people's top-3 government engineering colleges in Maharashtra.

Why VJTI is better than KJ Somaiya?

Sounak Banerjee
Vidhi SatraVJTI, Mumbai

While both are very good engineering colleges from Mumbai, according to me VJTI’s superiority lies in its strong industry connections, esteemed faculty and brand name. Its curriculum ensures that students are exposed to the latest developments and practical skills. VJTI also has a strong alumni network working in top companies that further enhance its reputation. Every year, many companies visit the VJTI campus and provide good packages. For 2024, A total of 401 BTech students have been placed till now with more expected to grab good offers as the campus drive continues.

Apart from placements, VJTI also offers better ROI and start-up support to students who aspire to entrepreneurial ventures. KJ Somiaya also charges much higher for its courses while VJTI being an autonomous government institute has an economic fee structure. It fosters a culture of academic excellence and innovation. VJTI faculties are also much more capable than KJ Somaiya’s, guiding students and at the same time engaging in research.

Yes, VJTI (Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute) does accept JEE Main scores, but only for some seats: admission is done through MHT-CET via Maharashtra’s CAP process. For the All-India quota seats (AI), valid JEE Main scores are used.
