AIIMS PG 2019 Exam Pattern; Mode, Total Questions, Marking Scheme

AIIMS PG Exam Pattern 2019 – Medical graduates must be familiar with AIIMS PG 2019 exam pattern in order to appear in the entrance examination. Candidates can learn about the structure of the post-graduate medical entrance test through the exam pattern decide by of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. AIIMS PG 2019 (January Session) is scheduled to be held on November 18, 2018.

  • Mode: The exam will be conducted through online (CBT) mode.
  • Duration: 180 minutes will be provided for the MD/MS courses and 90 minutes for MDS course.
  • Language: The exam will be asked in English language.
  • Type of Questions: Multiple choice questions will be asked in the exam.
  • Number of Questions: 200 questions will be asked from MD/MS and 90 questions form MDS.
  • Marking Scheme: 1 mark will be provided for one correct answer.
  • Negative Marking: -1/3 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.

Applicants must possess MBBS degree for MS/MD courses and BDS degree for MDS courses – 

  1. MS (Master of Surgery)
  2. MD (Doctor of Medicine)
  3. M. Ch. (Master of Chirurgiae - 6 years)
  4. MDS (Master of Dental Surgery)
  5. DM (Doctorate of Medicine – 6 years)

AIIMS PG 2019 Exam Pattern Highlights 

The exam pattern of AIIMS PG 2019 is different for MD/MS and MDS courses. Candidates can check the AIIMS PG 2019 exam pattern for both MD/MS as well as MDS programmes provided in the table below.

AIIMS PG 2019 Exam Pattern in Detail

AIIMS administers AIIMS PG Exam and there will be a single question paper consisting of multiple-choice questions based on the syllabus of MBBS programmes.

The objective questions will be based on the syllabus of M.B.B.S and BDS programmes for MS/MD and MDS respectively.

  • Total number of questions:  For MS/MD: 200 objective questions. For MDS: 90 objective questions.
  • Duration: Exam duration for MS/MD will be 3 hours and for MDS will be 90 minutes.
  • Subjects or Syllabus: The objective questions for MS/MD will be included from the subjects taught at M.B.B.S level. The objective questions for MDS will be included from the subjects taught at BDS level.

AIIMS PG 2019 Marking Scheme

The conducting body AIIMS will employ negative marking for evaluation. 1/3rd marks will be deducted for incorrect answer from the total.

  • For multiple-choice questions, out of four candidates should mark only one option as the answer. 
  • The marking scheme involves negative marking where every correct answer will add one mark and incorrect answer will deduct 1/3rd marks from the total.
  • No marks will be allotted or deducted for unanswered questions.

AIIMS PG 2019 Exam Day Instructions

  • The mode of examination is online i.e. computer based test. AIIMS PG aspirants should take a few mock tests as experience.
  • The test will begin exactly at the time mentioned on the AIIMS PG Admit Card. A prior announcement will be made by the invigilator.
  • The duration of the exam is 3 hours for MS/MD and 1.5 hours for MDS
  • All questions will carry equal marks.
  • There will be only one correct answer for each question from the given four options.
  • Negative marking scheme will be employed for evaluating the answers. Applicants should only answer the question if they are sure about it.
  • Unanswered questions will not affect the total marks
  • One mark will be allotted for each correct answer while 1/3rd marks will be deducted for each incorrect answer.
  • Applicants are required to sign the attendance sheet.
  • Admit card should be carried along with a photo identity proof.
