MET 2027 (Manipal Entrance Test) is a university-level computer-based entrance exam conducted by Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) for admission to B.Tech programmes at its four engineering campuses across India — MIT Manipal, MIT Bengaluru, Manipal University Jaipur (MUJ), and SMIT Sikkim. The exam is held in two phases every year, giving you two chances to appear and take your better score for merit ranking. As of October 2026, MAHE has not released the official MET 2027 notification, with Phase 1 registration expected to open shortly based on last year’s schedule.
- Registration (Phase 1): MET 2027 Phase 1 registration is expected to open in October 2026 on manipal.edu. In 2026, Phase 1 registration opened on September 30, 2025, and closed on March 23, 2026.
- Phase 1 Exam Date: The MET 2027 Phase 1 exam is expected in the second week of April 2027. Last year, Phase 1 was held on April 13–14, 2026.
- Phase 2 Exam Date: Phase 2 is expected in the fourth week of May 2027. In 2026, it was held on May 23–24, 2026.
- Counselling: MET 2027 counselling is expected to begin in June 2027 at counseling.manipal.edu. In 2026, Round 1 seat allotment was released on June 8, 2026, for more than 5,000 B.Tech seats across four MAHE campuses.
What is MET 2027?
MET stands for Manipal Entrance Test. It is conducted by Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), a deemed-to-be university headquartered in Manipal, Karnataka. MET is a university-level engineering entrance exam held every year for admission to B.Tech programmes at four MAHE engineering campuses. It is one of the most popular university-level engineering entrance exams in India, with more than 2 lakh candidates appearing every year for around 5,000 seats.
The exam is held in two phases — Phase 1 in April and Phase 2 in May. You can choose to appear in one or both phases. MAHE counts your better score for ranking. This two-phase format gives you a second opportunity if your Phase 1 performance does not go as planned, making MET one of the more candidate-friendly entrance exams in the country.
One important thing to know about MET: your final merit rank is not based on your MET score alone. MAHE uses a composite formula that gives 50% weightage to your MET score and 50% to your Class 12 board marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. This means strong board marks can significantly improve your rank, even if your MET test score is moderate.
Which Campuses Accept MET 2027 Score?
MET 2027 score is accepted by four MAHE-affiliated engineering institutes for B.Tech admissions. All four are part of the same common MET counselling process at counseling.manipal.edu:
- MIT Manipal — Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal (Karnataka) — the flagship campus with around 2,530 B.Tech seats across 17 branches including CSE, ECE, Mechanical, Chemical, and Aerospace Engineering
- MIT Bengaluru — Manipal Institute of Technology, Bengaluru (Karnataka) — around 540 B.Tech seats across 7 specialisations, ideal for candidates who want a Manipal-brand degree in an IT-hub city
- MUJ Jaipur — Manipal University Jaipur (Rajasthan) — around 1,470 B.Tech seats across 11+ branches, with newer programmes in AI, ML, IoT, and Data Science
- SMIT Sikkim — Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology, Majitar (Sikkim) — around 480 B.Tech seats across 9 branches, with the most accessible cutoffs of all four MAHE campuses
How Many Candidates Appear for MET?
MET 2026 saw more than 2.1 lakh candidates register, with around 1.9 lakh appearing for the test. Of these, roughly 60–70% qualify (around 1.2 to 1.5 lakh candidates). The total B.Tech intake across all four MAHE campuses is around 5,020 seats. This makes competition tight, especially for popular branches like CSE at MIT Manipal, where even a rank in the 5,000 range may not guarantee a seat in early counselling rounds.

MET 2027 Exam Pattern
The MET 2027 exam is expected to follow the same pattern as MET 2026. It is a Computer Based Test (CBT) with 60 questions to be answered in 2 hours. The paper contains two types of questions: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions. Understanding the exam pattern well before you start preparing helps you build the right test strategy.
MET 2027 Section-wise Exam Pattern
| Section | MCQ Questions | NAT Questions | Total Questions | Total Marks |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mathematics | 15 | 5 | 20 | 80 |
| Physics | 10 | 5 | 15 | 60 |
| Chemistry | 10 | 5 | 15 | 60 |
| English & General Aptitude | 10 | 0 | 10 | 40 |
| Total | 45 | 15 | 60 | 240 |
MET 2027 Marking Scheme
- MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions): +4 marks for a correct answer; −1 mark for a wrong answer
- NAT (Numerical Answer Type): +4 marks for a correct answer; no negative marking for wrong answers
- Unattempted questions carry 0 marks — there is no penalty for skipping a question
Mathematics carries the highest marks (80 out of 240), making it the most critical section for your MET score. Since NAT questions carry no negative marking, you should attempt every NAT question even if you are not fully confident of the answer — a correct NAT answer gives you +4 with no downside risk.
How is MET 2027 Rank Calculated?
Your final MET rank is not based on your test score alone. MAHE uses a composite formula:
- 50% weightage to your MET exam score (out of 240)
- 50% weightage to your Class 12 board aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics
This composite ranking system is unique to MET. A student with 170 marks in MET but 95% board marks in PCM can rank higher than someone who scored 190 in MET but had 75% board marks. Plan your board exam preparation as seriously as your MET preparation — both carry equal weight in your final rank.
If two candidates have the same composite score, MAHE applies tiebreaker rules as specified in the official MET 2027 brochure.
MET 2027 Syllabus
The MET 2027 syllabus covers Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English based on the NCERT Class 11 and Class 12 curriculum. MAHE releases the official syllabus PDF along with the MET 2027 notification on manipal.edu. If you appeared in both Phase 1 and Phase 2, you do not need to manually choose which score MAHE should use. MAHE automatically takes your higher score from the two phases for the composite rank calculation. Your combined merit rank then determines your eligibility and seat options during counselling.
MET 2027 Marks vs Rank
MAHE does not officially publish a marks-vs-rank chart for MET. The estimates below are based on MET 2025–2026 trends compiled from counselling data and candidate reports. Use these figures as a rough guide only — your final rank will depend on your Class 12 board marks too, which carry 50% weightage in the composite rank formula.
| MET Score (out of 240) | Expected MET Rank (Approx.) | Likely Options |
|---|---|---|
| 210 – 240 | 1 – 100 | Any branch at MIT Manipal |
| 190 – 209 | 101 – 500 | CSE, ECE at MIT Manipal in Round 1 |
| 170 – 189 | 501 – 1,500 | CSE/ECE at MIT Manipal (mid rounds), CSE at MIT Bengaluru |
| 150 – 169 | 1,501 – 3,500 | IT/ECE at MIT Manipal (later rounds), CSE at MIT Bengaluru |
| 130 – 149 | 3,501 – 7,000 | CSE at MUJ Jaipur, mid-range branches at MIT Manipal |
| 110 – 129 | 7,001 – 12,000 | CSE/ECE at MUJ Jaipur, Electrical at MIT Manipal |
| 90 – 109 | 12,001 – 20,000 | Core branches at MUJ Jaipur, CSE at SMIT Sikkim |
| Below 90 | 20,001 and above | Core branches at SMIT Sikkim |
These figures are estimates based on 2025–2026 MET trends. Actual ranks vary depending on exam difficulty, number of candidates, and board marks. The estimates do not account for the 50% board marks component in the composite rank formula.
A candidate with 160 marks in MET but 95% board marks in PCM could rank significantly better than a candidate with 175 marks in MET and 78% board marks. Always factor in both components when planning your target score.
Based on the 2026 cycle, a MET score of around 175+ marks gives a good chance at CSE at MIT Manipal in early rounds. For most branches at SMIT Sikkim, a score of even 80–100 marks is generally sufficient for seat allotment in later rounds.
MET 2027 Cutoff for Top Colleges
MET 2027 cutoffs (round-wise closing ranks) will be released by MAHE on counseling.manipal.edu during the counselling process, expected in June–July 2027. Until then, MET 2025–2026 closing ranks serve as the most reliable reference to plan your target rank and branch preferences.

MIT Manipal is consistently ranked among the top private engineering institutions in India. Its flagship campus in Manipal, Karnataka, offers the widest range of B.Tech specialisations. CSE at MIT Manipal has around 1,020 seats — the highest for any single branch across all four campuses — but it also has the tightest cutoff. MIT Manipal follows a pure merit-based admission process with no category-based reservations.
MUJ Jaipur is MAHE’s largest campus by seat count. It offers newer B.Tech programmes in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and IoT alongside traditional engineering branches. MUJ Jaipur follows Rajasthan state reservation norms, which can benefit OBC/SC/ST candidates from Rajasthan. The campus has a strong placement record in the IT sector.
MIT Bengaluru appeals to students who want a Manipal-brand engineering degree in Bengaluru — India’s technology hub. With fewer seats (around 540), the cutoffs at MIT Bengaluru fall between MIT Manipal and MUJ Jaipur. Proximity to Bengaluru’s tech companies makes it a strong option for internships and placements.
SMIT Sikkim (Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology) has the most accessible cutoffs of the four campuses, with candidates holding ranks in the 20,000–50,000 range finding seats here. It is a good option if you want a MAHE degree and have a moderate MET rank. Candidates from hilly and northeastern regions of India may also find it geographically convenient.
MET 2027 Preparation Tips
With MET 2027 Phase 1 expected in April 2027, you have around 6 months to prepare if you start now. Here are practical strategies to help you score well in MET 2027:
1. Build Your Base with NCERT First
The MET 2027 syllabus is entirely based on NCERT Class 11 and 12. Read your NCERT textbooks for Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics thoroughly before turning to reference books or coaching materials. Most MET questions can be solved using NCERT concepts. Mark key definitions, formulae, and reactions as you read through each chapter.
2. Focus the Most Time on Mathematics
Mathematics has 20 questions worth 80 marks — about 33% of the paper and the highest marks in any section. Calculus, Coordinate Geometry, and Algebra together cover a major share of MET Mathematics questions. Aim to solve at least 10 Mathematics problems daily. Getting Mathematics right is the single biggest lever for improving your MET score.
3. Attempt All NAT Questions — No Negative Marking
There are 15 NAT questions across Physics (5), Chemistry (5), and Mathematics (5). There is no negative marking for NAT. You should attempt every NAT question even if you are not fully confident — a correct answer gives you +4 marks with no penalty for being wrong. This is different from MCQs, where a wrong answer costs you −1 mark. Strategically, NATs are the safer questions to attempt when unsure.
4. Take Full-Length Mock Tests Every Week
MET is a 2-hour CBT, so speed and accuracy are both important. Take at least 2–3 full-length mock tests per week in the final 2 months before the exam. After every mock test, go through every wrong answer and understand why you made the mistake. Reducing careless errors in MCQs is one of the fastest ways to improve your MET score, since each wrong MCQ costs you 5 marks total (losing −1 instead of gaining +4).
5. Solve Previous Year MET Question Papers
Solving MET past year question papers for the last 3–5 years shows you the difficulty level, common question types, and high-weightage topics. Practise under timed conditions — 2 hours for 60 questions. The MET exam pattern has been consistent over recent years, so previous year papers are a reliable guide to what to expect.
6. Don’t Neglect English and General Aptitude
English carries 40 marks (about 16% of the paper). These questions are typically easier than the science sections and can be finished in 15–20 minutes with regular practice. Spending 20–30 minutes daily on English grammar, vocabulary, and reading comprehension in the last 2 months can help you pick up easy marks on exam day.
7. Score Well in Class 12 Boards Too
Your Class 12 board marks in PCM carry 50% weightage in the MET rank formula — equal to your MET test score. A student with 95% board marks and 160 marks in MET can rank higher than someone with 75% board marks and 185 marks in MET. Plan your board exam preparation alongside your MET preparation from the start. Both are equally important for your final rank.
8. Create a Topic-wise Study Plan
List all the topics in the MET 2027 syllabus and assign study time based on your weak areas and subject weightage. Set weekly targets and review your progress at the end of each week. Consistent preparation over 6 months is more effective than intensive cramming in the final few weeks before the exam.
FAQs
Ques. What is MET 2027 and who conducts it?
Ans. MET stands for Manipal Entrance Test. It is conducted by Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) for B.Tech admissions at four of its engineering campuses: MIT Manipal, MIT Bengaluru, Manipal University Jaipur (MUJ), and SMIT Sikkim. The exam is held twice a year (Phase 1 in April and Phase 2 in May) in computer-based test (CBT) mode, with more than 2 lakh candidates appearing each year.
Ques. When will MET 2027 registration start?
Ans. MET 2027 Phase 1 registration is expected to open in October 2026 on manipal.edu, based on last year’s pattern (Phase 1 registration for MET 2026 opened on September 30, 2025). The official MAHE notification for MET 2027 has not been released as of October 2026. Check manipal.edu for the official date once MAHE announces it.
Ques. What is the MET 2027 exam pattern?
Ans. MET 2027 is a 2-hour Computer Based Test (CBT) with 60 questions worth 240 marks. It has four sections: Mathematics (20 questions, 80 marks), Physics (15 questions, 60 marks), Chemistry (15 questions, 60 marks), and English & General Aptitude (10 questions, 40 marks). The exam has MCQ and NAT question types. MCQs carry +4 for correct and −1 for wrong answers, while NAT questions carry +4 for correct answers with no negative marking.
Ques. What is the eligibility for MET 2027?
Ans. You must have passed (or be appearing in) Class 12 with Physics, Mathematics, and English as compulsory subjects, plus any one of Chemistry, Biology, or Biotechnology as the third science subject. You need at least 50% aggregate in Physics, Mathematics, and the third science subject combined. You must also be at least 17 years old by December 31, 2027.
Ques. Can I appear for MET 2027 twice?
Ans. Yes. MET 2027 is held in two phases — Phase 1 (expected April 2027) and Phase 2 (expected May 2027). You can appear in one or both phases. MAHE automatically uses your better score from the two phases for the merit rank. Appearing in both phases gives you a second chance to improve your score if Phase 1 does not go well.
Ques. How is MET 2027 rank calculated?
Ans. MET rank is calculated using a composite formula: 50% weightage to your MET exam score (out of 240) and 50% to your Class 12 board aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. This means strong board marks can help your final rank even if your MET test score is moderate. A student with high board marks and a decent MET score can rank higher than someone with a high MET score but low board marks.
Ques. What is a good score in MET 2027?
Ans. Based on MET 2025–2026 trends:
- 175+ marks (out of 240) puts you in the top 1,500–2,000 rank range, with good chances at CSE/ECE at MIT Manipal
- 150–169 marks puts you in the 1,500–3,500 rank range, with options at IT and other branches at MIT Manipal and CSE at MIT Bengaluru
- 130+ marks gives you viable options at MUJ Jaipur and SMIT Sikkim for popular branches like CSE and ECE
Remember, your final rank also depends heavily on your Class 12 PCM board percentage.
Ques. How many seats are available through MET 2027?
Ans. MET 2027 provides access to approximately 5,020 B.Tech seats across four MAHE campuses: MIT Manipal (~2,530 seats), MUJ Jaipur (~1,470 seats), MIT Bengaluru (~540 seats), and SMIT Sikkim (~480 seats). CSE alone accounts for around 1,020 seats at MIT Manipal, the highest for any single branch across all four campuses.
Ques. Is there negative marking in MET 2027?
Ans. For MCQ questions, there is a −1 mark penalty for each wrong answer. For NAT (Numerical Answer Type) questions, there is no negative marking at all. You should attempt every NAT question to maximise your score, even if you are not confident of the exact answer. Be careful with MCQ questions — wrong MCQs cost you marks, so only attempt MCQs you are reasonably sure about.
Ques. How is MET 2027 counselling conducted?
Ans. MET 2027 counselling is conducted online at counseling.manipal.edu. After the combined merit list is released (expected June 2027), you register for counselling, fill your course and campus preferences, and wait for seat allotment. Seats are allocated in 4–5 rounds based on merit rank and choices. Once allotted a seat, you must pay the first instalment of tuition fees within 2–3 days to confirm it, or the seat is released to the next candidate.
Ques. Can I get CSE at MIT Manipal with 150 marks in MET 2027?
Ans. Based on the 2026 cycle, 150 marks gives you an estimated rank in the 1,500–3,500 range (depending significantly on your board marks). CSE at MIT Manipal in the final round closed at around rank 5,590 in 2026. So 150 marks alone may not be sufficient in early rounds, but it could work in later rounds — especially if your Class 12 PCM board marks are strong (90%+). Your actual chances depend on the board marks component in the composite rank formula.
Ques. What is the MET 2027 application fee?
Ans. The MET 2027 application fee is expected to be approximately Rs. 2,000 in total (around Rs. 800 for the application form and Rs. 1,200 for the entrance test fee), based on the 2026 cycle. The fee is non-refundable and payable online via credit/debit card, net banking, UPI, or mobile wallet. Confirm the exact fee amount from the official MET 2027 notification on manipal.edu before paying.
