Examples From Chapter 6 Squares and Square Roots

Ex.1  Find the number of digits in the square root of 36864, without calculating square roots.

Soln: 36864

On placing bars, we get

Since there are 3 bars, the square root will have 3 digits.

Ex.2 Give reasons why the following are not perfect squares.

(i) 222000

(ii) 505050

Soln: (i) 222000: The number 222000 is not a square as the number of zeroes at end of a square number ending with zeros is always even.

(ii) 505050. The number 505050 is not a square as the number of zeroes at the end of a square number ending with zeros is always even.
